Next manager

Post by bumba » Tue May 21, 2024 6:55 am

Liam Rosenior
Danny Rohl
Carlos Corberran

David Moyes would be my pick but doubt there's any chance whatsoever, the three above are young managers who've done well with their clubs on limited budgets

Moyes would be my choice but if he’s not interested it would be Carrick for me.

Carrick didn't have the best campaign this year, McKenna would have been ideal but no chance now.

Corberan or Rosenior would be fantastic shouts and would somewhat suit the squad we have to a degree.

Moyes will go to a higher profile job than ours.

Robins would also be a good solid about aswell and he seems the sort of guy who won’t take any nonsense.

Corberan would be a decent option. Did well with Huddersfield, taking them to a play off final, and turned WBA around to get them into the playoffs.

Corberan, Rosenior would do well with this squad. Rohl is a shout but I don’t know enough about how they play.

Heckingbottom anyone? He won the league in September remember! 😂

Can’t see a moyes type coming in - Alan’s main priority is the quality of the product/good football, however our perceived need for immediate promotion is greater this time around which may lead to a more pragmatic appointment.

Clubs like Brighton do demonstrate that you can have a “project” spanning multiple managers if your off field hierarchy is solid - the concern here is VK rules the roost.

I would imagine that anyone considering this must first consider who our playing staff are and how much money they will need to build their own squad, because the chances of our “wing heavy” squad won’t be to their liking.
For that reason alone, VK carries on. I’d go as far as to say we are VK reliant.

Spot on. Kompany spent a small fortune on our bloated squad of “potential” and we are now reliant on him to get a tune out of them.

Moyes? May as well just get Dyche back when he leaves Everton.

Tall about going backwards.

My number one pick would definitely be Moyes but I think it's not really realistic. He probably wouldn't want to drop down and unfortunately, I don't think he fits "the model" which is nonsense for me.

Regarding managers in Championship, I wouldn't mind Corberan, Carrick, Rohl or Robins but I'm not sure if they'd want the job and how difficult could compensation be.

If we are looking for managers without job, Rosenior is probably the most obvious pick but I'm not entirely sold on him.

The worry about the potential need of a new manager is Alan Pace is totally obsessed with Kompany and probably hasn’t even thought of a new manager

As mentioned above, since we dismantled our in-house scouting and analytics teams for Kompany - we're going to need someone to bring those with them too I imagine?

I'd be happy with Danny Rohl. Astonishing how he turned Wednesday round last season. They were an absolute disaster of a team and a basket case club when he arrived and he turned them into a decent Championship side without chucking money at anything.

Probably not glamorous enough to catch Pace's eye.

Harry Rednapp with Roy Hodgson, we need a management duo who's combined age is older then the squad.

This is the risk with most managers really, their past successes don't guarantee anything as they are usually built on different circumstances and contexts.
He went into an underachieving club and got Ugbo on loan who scored goals for them. He didn't really have much to lose.
It's a big difference from that to being given quite a lot of money to spend (probably) and being expected to finish top 2. Whoever takes over would be expected to lose a maximum of maybe 8 or 9 games all season. That's quite a lot of pressure.

Moyes would be my pick. Loads of experience. Builds teams that work hard and are competitive. The style of play is not as bad as West Ham fans make out. They have over inflated egos. I think he'd guarantee us promotion and I'd expect him to have us more competitive in the EPL than we have been this season. After his experiences with the West Ham fans maybe a more patient, supportive fan base will appeal?

Another under the radar choice would be Derek McInnes who’s just won manager of the year in Scotland. Took Kilmarnock from the championship to Europe and done a good job with Aberdeen ( who’ve dropped like a stone since he left )

This is utterly depressing if this is what's available to us.

Rosenior is a honking shout. Underachieved massively with the resources available to him.

Robins is probably the best shout. Moyes would likely get us up at the first time of asking and it seems written in the stars he'll manage us one day but I cannot be arsed with another 5-10 years of Dyche ball.

Bit unfair on Rosenior with it being his first time in management (except interim at Derby). Could say the same about Kompany at Anderlecht?

You could but VK widely acknowledged to have done a good job with not a great squad there - finished 6th and 8th before he fully took over and got them in third.

You could also see the attraction with his stature within the game and his pulling power.

Don't rule out David Moyes, he lives in the north west, and has been to watch us a few times. Might like the challenge of getting us back up, in preference to the cut throat of the PL. Think he could bring us stability, common sense without the big ego. I think also he would bring a good level of coaches and back room staff with him. Alternatively Michael Carrick-I like the loyalty he has shown Boro and I read a few clubs tried to prise him away. They were unlucky to get promoted when we went up

If VK goes Moyes would be my #1 without question - I feel like we need an experienced head who's seen it all to get the dross off the wage books and I think it'd be good for the board to see how a vastly more experienced manager, who has been at a number of clubs, operates.

He plays with wingers, a 4-2-3-1 (like we have done) and would work well with the centre halves on our books. It's not that dissimilar to a squad that he's used to managing.

Failing that then I'm not sure.

Corberan my number 1 pick. Overperformed at both clubs in this league based on budget. Tactically flexible manager who can play several different styles. Would be interesting to see him given the best squad and largest budget in the league. I also think he’s smart enough to adjust to the PL challenge should we get there. Not sure whether he could be prized out of West Brom though.

Stylistically Rosenior and Knutsen fit the bill. Both like ball dominant teams and the transition to their styles would be minimal. The former is a bit of a Russell Martin style risk though given, like Martin, he didn’t deliver play offs - albeit again the play style would be very similar, while Saints had to completely change their approach, perhaps reducing that risk a touch.
