Detroit Rock City!
They should really have twinned with Blackpool!
They should really have twinned with Blackpool!

Re: Visit Detroit?
There are parallels here.
Detroit has suffered massively due to decline of industry (car), whereas Burnley has suffered a similar fate (cotton, coal).
Detroit is in the middle of a massive gentrification, particularly to the downtown area.
We have just had news that the Keirby hotel is going to undergo massive development including an aquarium.
Practically the same place

Don't fully understand this kind of sponsorship but if you can ignore the horrible corporate speak it's just money for old rope, isn't it? If we're going to make money from the seven-a-side tournament then fair play.

You’d have thought the obvious link up would be Salt Lake City, but Detroit is a really cool place and it’ll bring some revenue into the club.

Was in Detroit a couple of years ago. Took in the first game of the baseball season with the Tigers.
It’s good the have links with these types of places. Builds the brand.

Believe me, there are many things we could complain about, but this is not one of them. By the way, I doubt anyone would have batted an eyelid if this had been done under the previous owners.

I have no issues with sponsorship, partnerships and affiliations etc, but what I find hilarious are the press releases with the utter bullshit about alignment, a shared ethos and company values and so on.

Re: Visit Detroit?
I don't have much to comment regarding this partnership. However, aside from being a Burnley fan, I'm a Detroit Lions fan. There are quite a few similarities between Burnley and Detroit. Both once prosperous and fallen on hard times, rebuilding their image through their respective sports teams in many ways. Lions in particular are Super Bowl contenders now and hosted the 2024 draft which had the highest attendance of any draft in history. Lots of good things being said about the city.
Neither team is historically the most fashionable choice! I also think it's interesting to note that Detroit is the only city in the US to have all of its sport teams (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL) all play in its downtown area. You could say, like Burnley FC and Turf Moor, Detroit and its respective teams are the heartbeat of the city. The fans are passionate and stick by their teams regardless of whether the going gets tough. A lot of parallels there. Anyway, just some context on Detroit. Like I say, don't have an opinion on the partnership really.

Re: Visit Detroit?
I've just booked flights to Detroit for a week this summer having seen this. Unfortunately I'm a bit strapped for cash so I've had to cancel my entire family's season tickets for next season, so it looks like this has backfired on the club.
Re: Visit Detroit?
Another similarity - in terms of tourist hotspots, the centre of Burnley and the centre of Detroit are about on a par.williamjblazkowicz wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 1:18 pmI don't have much to comment regarding this partnership. Re: Visit Detroit?
I'm sure your comment is in jest but although Detroit has some areas that are arguably worse than Burnley, the downtown area is quite nice! Keep in mind this video is 5 years old and it has continued to improve since:

Re: Visit Detroit?
These things don't just happen. Alan has to 'sell' the club and the town to bring in money to build Burnley globally. This has to be done to raise our profile, so we have to allow and excuse all kinds of business speak to achieve our goals. Detroit is a city with a population of over half a million. Citywide, this feels like our first steps on the first rung of this particular ladder. We can't stand still. If there wasn't a press release, there would be justifiable complaints. A football club is no longer just about the football. Shame, but that is the reality. We can't compete with the top ten clubs in this country but we have to do all we can to be thought of as one of the top 20. Once that is established, if ever, then maybe we can look to progress further. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Not sure what the gain is for this one. It is a non profit making organisation. Tourist based? Like Visit Rwanda or something? Who knows. Not really bothered.

I'm actually from Cleveland (which would have been awesome to have Burnley paired with Visit Cleveland tourism board), and the scenes from Cleveland would parallel anything in Detroit.LeuvenClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 11:37 amCleveland sounds better >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM
The partnership is fine. While certainly not a glamorous place to visit, it is in the US, and will bring awareness.

We should do a deal with Visit Worsthorne. I was going to say Visit Cliviger, but that might be a bit iffy with it being 3.0 miles from Turf Moor.
