I know people love music and attending festivals, however I do find it incredibly strange people watching festivals on the tv.
Eh?

Surely the same could be said of those watching live football on TV.

We enjoy live music so why wouldn’t we watch it.

TV is the absolute only way I'd watch a 3 day festival. (if there are any others apart from Glastonbury?) Personal hygiene standards dictate :D

Wow - Glastonbury is a cultural event - it’s like the largest festival in the world in terms of musical diversity - size and attendance - it’s just on another level. Tickets sell out in under an hour . I was lucky to attend back in the eighties - its a whole other level today.

This might need some explaining, NC93 :)

I know it's nothing like being there but can still appreciate it from home.

I’ve never got Coldplay. 4 average musicians, VERY repetitive lyrics, some decent riffs, more pop than rock, and audience participation. They do put on a mighty show though.

I’m not sure what Coldplay is other than it’s not rock.. they occupy a unique position. Not based on quality or output just oddity

Some of y'all really need to listen to Miles Davis' 'So What' on repeat until the penny finally drops.

Tens of millions have bought albums, ditto watched them live, hundreds of thousands watched them at Glastonbury over the years and all seemed happy, they must have something.

I know it sounds wierd given we all watch football on tv.

The only reason I’ve ever been to a festival is for the atmosphere and getting ****** with a load of mates. The main part of it for me was always the camping out with a load of friends and making a mini holiday of it. I guess what I’m trying to say is, the attraction of a festival was the whole package of everything tied together.

I guess that’s why I find it strange but whatever floats peoples boats.

Agree with the comment about Lankum, their version of wild rover is hauntingly beautiful. Was very impressed with their set. The Breeders were slightly disappointing as the mixing desk never really sorted out the sound issues. I've never really paid much attention to Idles but they put on a very entertaining performance.

I’m watching for the music and don’t have iplayer, abroad. I record everything then Ff through the acts not my style. I couldn't be done with the dashing around from stage to stage, camping, stinky bogs, thefts and my biggest hate THEM EFFING FLAGS. You pay £250 to stand behind some tossers advertising their football team, no thanks.
It looked as though IoW had a ban on them, last week, and it was so much better for it even on tv.

Then why even bother commenting. I don't think one person on here gives a toss about you 'finding it strange'. Millions don't, but there you go.

Anyway, as for Glastonbury. I've been busy this weekend, so I'll wait until next weekend and watch the bands I'm into on the iPlayer because most of them are on the smaller stages and usually the iPlayer covers the whole or most of their sets, rather than a couple of songs.

The flags are handy when you’ve been to the loo/bar and need to find your mates in the crowd though

Agree.

Just caught up with Jungle from Friday night too. Thought they were excellent. Saw them at Glasto in 2016 and they’ve got even bigger and better since.

The K’s were on at 12.30 this afternoon but coverage of the Woodsy’s stage didn’t start till 2pm. Fingers crossed their set will appear at some point.

OCS were in the acoustic tent last night. That stage has had no coverage all weekend.

There's about 40 different stages at Glastonbury. The BBC cover the biggest 5. So much of the festival goes largely unseen unless you attend.

Not sure if already mentioned in this thread - but the Friday set by Squid was fantastic and is available for replay on iPlayer. Brilliant musicians and good stage presence. Recommend watching if you're into Talking Heads-esque stuff.

It’s too sterile for me. I just don’t like
‘Live’ performances that sound just like the record.

Looking forward to Michael Kiwanuka today.
I flicked onto the coverage occasionally but was not inspired.

I saw a bit of Paul Heaton - boring; Shania Twain - nothing; and one or two others. It seems women have to dress scantily in order to hold attention which is sad. I thought we should have moved on.

Michael Kiwanuka did sound interesting with one of his songs but then he sang some sort of drone type song where he just repeated about being a black man in a white man's world - awful.

Of course I'm a product of my day - late sixties/early seventies - when we had an embarrassment of riches; and lots of crap too of course. Perhaps it's as what_no_pies says, we miss most of it.

The song you mention isn't his most accessible, but Kiwanuka is class. If you wish to give him another shot id skip to the last 15 mins of his set. The Cold Little Heart / Love & Hate combo is top notch

Looking forward to James tomorrow. Other stage 3-4, I think.
I have seen James 4 times in recent years, absolute top notch live band. The last time i saw them was at Wembley Arena, supported by The Charlatans who were a bit meh. I was very close to the front and had Tim Booth crowd surf over the top of me as he made his way back to the stage. They have had some good support bands over the years when i have seen them, first time at Brixton Academy was Echo and the Bunnymen, next time at O2 Kentish Town an unsigned band called Slow Readers Club who were excellent and then Brixton again they had Star Sailor.

I was fortunate enough to get tickets to see them with an orchestra this coming Saturday in Bedford, supported by Johnny Marr, Inspiral Carpets, Magic Numbers and Tom A Smith. Should be a great day.
