Post by MT03ALG » Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:10 pm

Pickford
Trippier-Stones-Guehi-Walker
Rice
Bellingham-Mainoo
Palmer-Watkins-Gordon

Surely Southgate must wake up at some point before coming home!

Don’t need the extra man in midfield. To me, there are 2 options. 3-4-3, or 4-2-3-1

Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi
Foden Rice Bellingham Bowen
Saka Kane Gordon

Or, if we’re not quite as ambitious

Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi Trippier
Rice Bellingham
Saka Foden Gordon
Kane

Looks like Mainoo is confirmed to be starting according to the telegraph.

I imagine that will probably be the only change unless Foden isn’t back in time.

I would certainly like to see Trippier at right back in his natural position and Walker at left back for a change.

Really don't see how anyone could justify putting Tripps back at left back.

Other than Shaw not being fit and Chilwell being rubbish, he’s the best option available. Walker is top class and uses his pace to get past defenders to cross. He can’t move to left back as someone has suggested.

To dream the impossible tream

Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi
Trippier Rice Bellingham Saka
Foden Kane Gordon

But I doubt they'd change formation after all their prep using 433 so

Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi Shaw/Saka
Bellingham Rice
Palmer Foden Gordon
Kane

Problem is he offers absolutely no width on that side. Everytime he got the ball he either stopped and went backwards and sideways. At least when TAA came on at RB and Walker moved to LB he went further forward.

Saka, Bellingham and Kane haven't been good in the last couple of games. It seems ridiculous to even consider dropping them, but we're playing Slovakia so we could use it as a "kick up the backside" for certain players.

Pickford
Walker Stone Guehi Trippier
Rice Mainoo
Palmer Foden Gordon
Watkins

I'd also chuck Wharton on for the second half, in place of Rice, to give him a rest.

Yeah, it's just going to be Mainoo for Gallagher.

If Slovakia know how flaky and frightened we are, they'll have a go at us from kick off and beat us. It took Serbia until half time and Denmark about 20 minutes to see it. Slovenia only wanted a point and barely broke sweat getting it.

I really don't understand how anybody can pick trippier at left back, he's a right back end of.

I might be on my own but I think Trippier has been one of our best players. Very intelligent use of the ball, solid defensively and some wicked deliveries.

It's really not that unheard of to have a right footed left back that inverts. The trick is to get the balance right so we aren't stunted as an attacking force. We do this by playing Gordon on the left side.

I actually think Walkers total lack of ability on the ball is as much as an issue, if you swap him and Trippier round we then have a much bigger attacking threat down that side and Walker joining the centre backs to form a back 3 from left back. It seems to make a lot more sense to me but for some reason Walker can't be touched (I presume because of his pace).

If we go for this team we have balance but there's no chance we will.

......Pickford

Trippier...Stones..Rice/Guehi...Walker

..............Wharton.....Mainoo

Saka...........Foden............Gordon

..................Kane

Obviously the big losers are Rice and Bellingham but I'd want players who can manipulate the ball well in tight spaces and keep it under pressure without wanting to do anything extravagant. Mainoo and Wharton would both do that and they would both be excellent at picking out the penetrative passes into the feet of Foden.

Agree with the above team, but hopefully shaw will be fit and then play walker at right back and move rice into midfield instead of wharton. I wouldnt leave guehi out, I think he's been one of our better players so far.

There's two types of fitness:

a) being injury-free;
b) being able to play at full pace

Shaw may possibly be free of injury but no way will he be match-fit.

I agree completely, but who else do you choose? Walker is the best right back so we leave him where he is. TAA was terrible in his cameo at right back the other night so I wouldn't trust him at left back.

Southgate has made an epic mistake not taking another left back... especially when you consider we have players in the squad who haven't had any game time at all yet. Dunk, Gomez, Konsa, Wharton and Toney are unlikely to get a kick at any point during the tournament. Why one of those three defenders wasn't left at home in favour of Chilwell or Mitchell I'll never know.

Is what I'd expect to see, but what I'd like to see is:

Walker——Stones—Guehi

Saka———Foden———Gordon
————————Kane

Give us some more width and therefore more balls into the box for Kane to be effective up top.

Southgate will pick the same side that started the 2nd half of the last game. Mainoo for Gallagher being the only change.

He can't change the back 5 due to his dumb selections despite being given the chance to pick a squad of 26 instead of 23 he still took 1 injured left back. There is no way that Chilwell or MItchell don't offer more at left back than Trippier.

I would be tempted to give Gordon and Palmer a start with Bellingham who has looked ineffective since half time of the 1st game a break. He could also then be left with the option of having Saka & Bellingham to come on after 60 minutes.

Sky sports reporting Konsa will play left back over Trippier if he can't prove his fitness before the game. With Mainoo for Gallagher the only other change expected:

Kane

Bellingham to drop in when required .

Saka to be brought on . Go and play with freedom and score some goals

Trippier playing left back has caused so much imbalance. Not his fault but it simply hasn't worked.

Saka has to start for me.

Foden to make way for Palmer. Gallagher for Mainoo and it will be the same team otherwise.

I’d prefer Wharton to Mainoo too but that’s never happening.

If Konsa is going to play, then:

Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi Konsa
Rice
Foden Bellingham
Saka Kane Gordon

All about opinions but for me Foden is our best player. Has to be central with the team built around him.

Swap the fullbacks, Walker looks knackered and Trippier is a bad fit at left back. Drop Bellingham, he's been awful the last two games and I'm not sure him and Foden can play together.
