Southern Softies
With Parker seemingly nailed on as our new manager apart from Sean Dyche I can’t think of many managers that have come north and succeeded, now going South to North there are hundreds .
Fergie ,Nicholson ,Graham ,Shanks etc.

Eddie Howe at Newcastle I would say is a fair one.

Pep's done OK since heading north from Barcelona
Re: Southern Softies
Holloway at Blackpool. It’s a weird post for me though. As a southerner myself I’ve never heard anyone say how many northerners come south and do well. You northerners seriously need to get over this chip.

if anyone thinks Parker might not hack it up north then you probably never saw him play, he doesn't strike me as someone with one ounce of trepidation.

He will be fine up north renting a house in Loveclough then back to Oxshott on his days off.

My other half comes from Lincoln and I constantly have to correct my kids when they pronounce grass and past wrong. It’s tough I tell ya!Stonehouse wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 4:02 pmSon’s wife is from south of Watford can’t understand a word she’s says he should have married a Lancashire Lass![]()

Re: Southern Softies
To anyone who has lived in the southeast - Southend and two long spells in London, in my case - the term 'southern softies' couldn't be more inaccurate.

Re: Southern Softies
Reading up about him when it was confirmed that he was the front runner to become our next manager his style was described as Inspirational, Combative, Driven - Full Of Character. Those would seem to be excellent qualities that should serve him well in getting everyone to pull together and get out of the Championship.
However, I wouldn’t place him in the category of Southern Softie.

I always enjoyed watching him play.........maybe he'll just have to tone down his cardigans up north.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 3:46 pmif anyone thinks Parker might not hack it up north then you probably never saw him play, he doesn't strike me as someone with one ounce of trepidation.

Pep Guardiola became synonymous with a grey cardigan jacket that he wore during the 2018/19 season.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 4:36 pmI always enjoyed watching him play.........maybe he'll just have to tone down his cardigans up north.

Re: Southern Softies
This southern softies thing is, like most stereotypical things a load of nonsense. A bit like 'it's grim up North'.
Some areas of London and some towns like Luton and Portsmouth are rough as rats and some areas like Henley on Thames are very pampered.
Some areas of the north are similarly rough as a bears ar-se like Toxteth and some aren't like Harrogate.
And then there's a whole new level of sh×t pit that needs a special classification of its own, the bomb site that is affectionately known as blackburnnnnnnn.

Re: Southern Softies
Do you not mean going from north to south in your last examples? Anyway, it depends how you define success. I’d see cotterill and Dyche as good examples of managers coming north and being successful.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:35 amWith Parker seemingly nailed on as our new manager apart from Sean Dyche I can’t think of many managers that have come north and succeeded, now going South to North there are hundreds .
