I’m not the biggest tennis fan but he’s had a tremendous career in the most difficult era.

At one point I didn’t think he’d ever have the stamina to win a grand slam in the era he was playing in but he certainly proved his doubters wrong.

It could be debated endlessly about who is GB's greatest sportsman of all time. But one thing is for sure, Murray isn't 'far' from being it - he's right up there and would be on any sensible shortlist for such a debate. His efforts and achievements have been outstanding.

To win 3 grand slams whilst Federer, Nadal and Novak are about is one thing. To have 2 of those at Wimbledon is something else. Especially the first one. 70+ years since a British male won it is imho the greatest sporting achievement by a brit. There’s no sport where an individual has so much expectation, anticipation, hope and everything else solely on him. He’s alone out there for 4, 5, 6 hours.

He also spent all those years winning slam titles in the strongest era ever, in mens tennis.
I like watching tennis & feel privileged to have watched him winning Wimbledon.

It was unfortunate that his injuries really started to kick in just after he had become number 1 in the world. He was on a par with the others at his peak and would probably have won more slams. It is also thanks to all the work he has put into British tennis that we have all these youngsters coming through. They have been very impressive this Wimbledon and are flying up the rankings. Let's hope they kick on. We seem to have a bit of strength in depth now as well with 15 year old Hannah Klugman looking like she could be the real deal, if she carries on the way she is going.

What a huge shame. Radacanu has a little stiffness in her wrist, so ends Andy Murray's career in an instant.

That is appalling. She agreed to play with him and is mot injured. Her almost partner and all the champions, play with pain and injury. Dropping out for stiffness is snubbing a legend without reason.

Been a brilliant and long career, in his prime an unstoppable beast on any surface , had around 8 yrs of incredible consistency. His sheer will to win was inspirational ,and in an era of 3 alltime greats .

The injuries caught up though ,and he simply couldn’t let go. The last couple of yrs ,it’s been a sad sight to see a great like Murray reduced to seemingly endless stage managed wild card defeats from players not fit to lace his shoes . His mum’s got some neck though moaning at Raducanu pulling out of their mixed doubles to protect her wrist , when Andy himself pulled out of the singles to erm “ protect his wrist “ A well deserved retirement awaits .

Murray has been a true great in an era of even bigger greats and has done amazingly well to achieve what he has. Unfortunately he does seem to have been a victim sometimes of the ‘British when he’s winning and Scottish when he doesn’t’.

Radacanu made a wise decision withdrawing from yesterday’s mixed doubles given she's due to play a singles match today when she's looking in excellent form. The type of decision Murray, who is a true great as you say, would have probably in the same position.

Tbh I watched Murray's farewell the other day after the doubles match. It's as if they knew that could be his last match anyway. His back looked crocked. Not sure why there is a big fuss over this.

Of course when they agreed there would have been a chance that either one of them would pull out with an injury - and Murray was every bit of likely to be the one to pull out as Radacanu.

Players like Murray and Radacanu are surrounded by huge teams of advisors, physios etc. Radacanu is at a very different point of her career than Murray. If there was any risk that playing in a pretty meaningless mixed doubles game would impact her singles performance or result in injury then there is no way that her or her team would take that risk. With Murray he is right at the end of his fantastic career and clearly not that bothered that he was playing in the mixed doubles already injured himself.

I know you would probably ask why did she agree to play the mixed doubles in the first place ? Pretty simple answer is because she thought she could cope with the singles and the mixed doubles when she agreed to it. But let’s not pretend which we don’t know which was her priority - in exactly the same way it would have been for Andy Murray if the position was reversed.

As Judy Murray has said, the scheduling will have rightly played a big part in Radacanu's correct decision. Playing yesterday and today when her priority, by a country mile, must be on the singles.

The question we have to ask is when Andy Murray was competing in the Mens Singles at Wimbledon, as a top seeded player with a prospect of reaching the final stages, was he also competing in the Mens and Mixed Doubles? Probably not. The scheduling of matches makes it extremely difficult. Raducanu has also missed a great deal of tennis over the past couple of years with injury and has had operations on her ankle(s) and wrist(s). When she received a text asking her to play mixed doubles with Andy Murray it probably required an immediate reply and not something to mull over for 24/48 hours. I recall Clare Balding getting herself all giddy during coverage saying “Emma received a text from Andy and of course she said yes how could she turn him down.”
Raducanu has probably surpassed her own expectations at this Wimbledon and it’s good to see her playing well again and enjoying her tennis.

I'm not a tennis fan and basically just watch a bit of Wimbledon, although I did watch Raducanu's US final. My question for tennis fans is does anybody actually care about the mixed doubles? It seems a bit pointless and that she would be crazy to risk the slightest injury to play in it.

Not many top ranked singles players compete in or excel at doubles but there are exceptions Navratilova (women’s doubles) and McEnroe (Men’s doubles) but very often it is a specialist event dominated by pairings such as the Bryan brothers.
