Energy companies
We have had posts on this in the past with lots of info.
I thought I would start another to see which is the best out there now the cap has come down 7%.
Is it time to fix again?

Re: Energy companies
I think it is but if you're looking for a 2 year deal there aren't many around - Eon and OVO are offering them.

It has dropped 7% but it’s forecast to rise 10% in October when we all start putting our heating back on!
Re: Energy companies
We are with Octopus and may go for this with no exit fee.
“For those who prefer stability, the Octopus 12-month Fixed Tariff offers just that. Prices are locked in for a year, providing peace of mind against potential price hikes. Plus, no exit fees apply if you switch tariffs within Octopus Energy”

Re: Energy companies
I have just fixed mine with Octopus, as said above, zero exit fee so sounds a no brainer. There's a calculator on money saving expert which is quite handy if anyone is unsure.

Re: Energy companies
I'm with Octopus at the minute but the unit prices don't seem to have gone down and fixing for 12months adds another 60 quid to my bill.

If your seriously concerned about the climate emergency in the future and have young children and or grandchildren you might consider https://www.ecotricity.co.uk/
We’ve been with them for about 15 years now and very happy, never have to wait for someone to pick up the phone if you have an enquiry either.

I'm with Octopus, can't speak highly enough of them. I've fixed for 12 months. You get £50 credit if you sign up here, as do I..
Re: Energy companies
Are there any energy companies who don't have a daily standing charge or at least a low one?
Atm I am living most of the year here in the Philippines and although no electric is being used in my house in England I am still being charged about
60p a day for standing charge.

I would generally agree but I would be aware of the term “if you buy cheap you can end up buying twice”.bfcjg wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 1:12 pmWe use the Martin Lewis site to get our deals, dead easy.

Yes we moved into a house that the previous owner had been using one company and didn’t like the company so we changed to another.

Re: Energy companies
I was looking at my flexible Octopus rate today and we have decided we are going to move onto their fixed rate. Octopus estimates it might end up costing us an extra £6 above the current flexible rate for the year, which is nothing compared to what we could lose if the rates increase again in winter.giveusaB wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 3:00 pmWe are with Octopus and may go for this with no exit fee.

Already well in credit anyway, so the £6 is already paid up for peace of mind over another winter

Re: Energy companies
I’m with Octopus on the flexible tariff. If I wanted to switch to a fixed, how do I find the details and then do it? I can’t find anything about it in the app.

I think it's just click on tariffs page. Should show 3 different tariff for you including the one you're already on.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 3:04 pmI’m with Octopus on the flexible tariff. I'm going to wait and see if the new government do anything to reduce these prices before I get fixed in.

Are you sure it's £6 more for the year? It's showing as £6 more per month for me.Poulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 2:23 pmI was looking at my flexible Octopus rate today and we have decided we are going to move onto their fixed rate. Go to octopus.energy/dashboard/accounts/accountnumber/tariff-renewal/#/ , substituting accountnumber for your actual account number.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 3:04 pmI’m with Octopus on the flexible tariff. Get your DD down to what you need to pay. You can set it.Poulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 6:59 pmSorry yes, £6 per month extra!! They just want the surplus in their account making plenty of interest for them.

Yep very good point, the fixed now brings us right down. Going to leave the extra money in there though as my Mrs is due to have our first baby in October, so it should cover the extra energy usage I anticipate us using over the winterQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2024 9:36 pmGet your DD down to what you need to pay. Re: Energy companies
I’m trying to work out how the standing charge is up near 60p per day! Our 3 year fixed deal with EDF is coming to an end in September and the standing charge is 24p and the rate is 20p per kWh. We’ve just had a 4kW solar array fitted and a 5kW battery and our daily bill is down to just the standing charge now while it’s sunny - in fact even today it was still only about 30p for the whole day!
