Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
I'd suggest the fourth or fifth given we've already confirmed the signings of Estève & Trésor, and then there's JBG.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:17 pmClub website saying he is the 3rd signing of the window ?

I think he is our first permanent LB signing since Pieter in 2019, feels like quite the wait!

If he's half as good as Pieters then he will be a good signingChadderton_Dan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:21 pmI think he is our first permanent LB signing since Pieter in 2019, feels like quite the wait!

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
We only made one mistake with Brian Easton and that was signing him in the first place.
I don’t know anything about Pires but I’m expecting him to be considerably better than the aforementioned Easton.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
There was quite a big second mistake of actually playing him. He's right up there for worst player I've seen play for us along with Dane RichardsClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 7:54 pmWe only made one mistake with Brian Easton and that was signing him in the first place.

Watching Brian easton taking corners away at Leicester 4-0 down has to be one of the lowest points at any away game I’ve ever been toClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 7:54 pmWe only made one mistake with Brian Easton and that was signing him in the first place.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
He’s still playing is Easton. He was in the East Fife team last Saturday for their League Cup tie against Morton.
If Pires is on a par with Easton then we are getting our recruitment very badly wrong. I suspect he will be considerably better.

I was quite amazed when we signed our first Brazilian, and now we've only gone and done it for the second time
. What is the world coming to? We are Burnley not Benfica

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
Time will tell whether all this shopping across the world is going to work. Is Pires the first player we've brought in during this period from outside of Europe?

Other than Penny & Guerrero previously, I don’t recall any other non-European based signings

Didn't we get an American left back who come to us straight from the US?

That's who I was thinking of, Tony. I thought we had picked him up when we did that mini tour of the US a few years ago, but it was only a vague memory at best.

I was introduced to him at a pre-season game at Accy. He said to me: "It's mighty fine to meet you Sir."

Nizic?claretburns wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 11:02 amWasn't there an Australian goalkeeper early in the Dyche era? With Heaton around don't think he ever played a game for us.
Don’t think we signed him from an Australian club though. Think he was already in UK

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
It was Alex Cisak, came on when Tom Heaton was sent off at Brighton. He was an Aussie but Polish born. Signed him from Oldham.
Dan Nizic signed in the same summer. Think he might have come directly from Australia. His signing had been arranged in the previous year.

I’ve just looked up Nizic. He was at Portsmouth on trial for a year but couldn’t get a work permit for him but then signed for us when we could get one

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets sign Brazilian Lucas Pires
That’s it with Nizic. I think we’d agreed the deal with him a year earlier but had to wait for the work permit. So he went off to Portsmouth for a year which then enabled us to get him.
That summer of 2013, Dyche’s first four signings were goalkeepers but two of them, Nizic & Liversedge, had been agreed before Dyche arrived.

He was at Rangers on trial if I recall and they didn't offer him anything so he came here and we did. But he hadn't played for any English clubs.
