what a waste of an appeal, surely a batsman knows if he has got an inside edge or not.
The appeal wasn’t for an inside, Root recommended it believing it was missing leg stump.

Seems like England missed an economical seamer that can tie up an end and has a knack of taking important wickets...

Good game this.
A 'proper' Test Match. Nice to see in a time when the shorter formats seem to be taking over.

I'm liking the newer approach to the batting. Far too many times over the last two years have we been in strong positions and thrown it all away.

Stupid shot by Stokes just before lunch. He could have played sensibly and then gone for the acceleration after lunch.

Smith goes last ball before lunch, good fight back from the Windies.
Apparently according to a commentator, if England get to 400 it will be the first time in their test history they will have scored 400 in both innings. I think it was 1877 when they played the first ever cricket test match in Melbourne Australia.

It was indeed. And the Centenary Test at the MCG in 1977 (obviously) produced exactly the same result as that first ever Test - Australia winning by 45 runs.

I thought it was too big a score for them to chase down in the fourth innings but I wasn’t expecting this. Currently 93/6.

An excellent 2nd innings by England and great to have two centurions.
Without looking at stats, with Stokes as captain we certainly seem to have improved in the 2nd innings of Tests.
