He was fun goalkeeper to have when we were better than everyone else and absolutely should have started the PL season.
He's about at his level though due to his erratic nature. Unless he's in ateam that play like we did in our championship season, he's a pretty standard bottom half PL/top half Championship keeper.

My comment is more at the dumped child actions of unfollowing his team mates. He has shared some good times with some of them, you would think he would be a bit more mature than his actions.

Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
Kompany was the problem with Trafford. He should have got him out of the firing line but didn’t and hung him out to dry. We’ve done very well to get that money for Muric who just has too many mistakes in him.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:53 pmNot sure I can cope watching some of our fans demonstrate their impatience with another young keeper.
…and before anyone says “Yeah, but Trafford cost £15m”, his fee didn’t make him any older or experienced.

I’m sad to see him go. He would have been good in the Championship next season.
Sadly a victim of Kompany’s Mission to Suicide last season. Really shabbily treated in my view.

From a squad built on good characters and morals, to Wout, Muric AWOl and whoever else hasn't shown up.... has the discipline left the club? Or are they just one offs?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:17 pmDone well to get that money for him and he's not the only one not seen

I think the loss of the discipline was one of the concerns last season. I hear that Parker is reintroducing some discipline and structure.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 2:47 pmFrom a squad built on good characters and morals, to Wout, Muric AWOl and whoever else hasn't shown up.... has the discipline left the club? That’s good to hear. Less pressure on Parker to try and give players chance after chance if he wasn’t the one that brought them to the club for a big fee only for them to have minimal impact and or poor attitude.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 2:59 pmI think the loss of the discipline was one of the concerns last season. Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
From a purely business point of view doesn't this represent exactly what ALK are trying to do? We paid £3m two years ago and sell for at least £10m, potentially £15m. I know there's a sell on clause meaning we will be due to pay City some of the money received, but it's still a good deal.

I thought it was Bristol City away on the penultimate game of the season, but just seen from CT’s article that he didn’t even play that game.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 2:27 pmDefinitely Cardiff at home last game of the season. Apologies - my memory is shocking.

Signing Traff didn’t stop us signing other players, there were plenty of funds available, as well as plenty of time at that point.summitclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 2:12 pmLet's hope all the crap about Trafford stops now. Trafford should never have been signed, especially when we didn't fill gaping holes in the squad at left back, dcm and striker.
Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
He just looked way to aloof. When he was playing he didn't look particularly engaged, nor behind the scenes on the documentary. There was also the bar bill story and him being subbed by Kompany and possibly dropped at one point I'd have to check.

Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
You only have to look at our results last season when we brought him in instead of Trafford. They improved vastly and he made a big difference. Sorry to see him go but Trafford will do OK in the Champiosnship. Unless we sell him in which case we should be able to get a good replacement with the money from the two sales.
Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
It’s good money. We’ve probably got x3 what we paid for him. Whilst he was excellent with his passing let’s not pretend he was an amazing shot stopper and not prone to a costly error. Like almost everyone else I believe he should have come in earlier last season and that would have helped Trafford. But when he did he single handedly cost us pts in 2 huge games.
I’m more than comfortable with Trafford as number 1 next year if he stays.

Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
Took me a while to get used to him.
Do think he started to improve ( in a traditional sense ) as a keeper towards the end of the Championship season.
A surprise he didn't start in the Prem, really.
Whatever anyone thinks, to have to sit on the bench for so long with what was going on in front of him, was weird.
VK's stubborness appeared like a mist to protect his own ego and continuing with Trafford, who was clearly out of his depth.
Wish him well with his new club.
Seems a decent price.

You have to remember that not any one individual is the same and people like Muric, who is clearly a bit of a maverick, isn't going to have the stereotypical response that others have and it's important to therefore not (imo wrongly) categorise people because of your perceptions.
Seen this happen to too many people in different places of work that because they're a bit of an individual get a load of nonsense talked about them and always given the short end of the stick.
His performances for us, which is the main thing that matters, were always full of commitment.

Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
Kompanys management of our goalkeepers last season has probably inspired both of them to be wanting out. Muric for me has, for me, always been overrated, average as a shot stopper and encouraged the press when overplaying the heart stopping tip-tap passing around the penalty area. If the estimates for his transfer price are anywhere near true then we have done well since this puts him at similar value to what we were paid for Pope, which is ridiculous.
Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
I didn't categorise him as anything, it was just a opinion and now he's gone it doesn't really matter. I supported him as a Burnley player and got ridiculed on here the other day for saying we will never have a more talented keeper which I stand by.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 6:08 pmYou have to remember that not any one individual is the same and people like Muric, who is clearly a bit of a maverick, isn't going to have the stereotypical response that others have and it's important to therefore not (imo wrongly) categorise people because of your perceptions.

Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
Fair enough - I just see it a bit too much in general these days, seeing people that are a bit different then jumping to an erroneous conclusion.
That chapter is over anyway, personally, I think VK's management of him along with a number of players was rank bad and we were doomed to failure from the off last season. His management was nothing short of farcical.
Regarding Aro - wish him well, yes certainly had things to work on but the raw talent (and I'm in agreement with you here) is as high as any player I've seen for Burnley.
I think Ipswich have gotten themselves a very good player for a decent fee.

Sad news in terms of enjoying the football but pretty decent business. Hope he goes on to do well there.
Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
“Encouraging the press” was the whole point of the “heart stopping tip-tap passing”, and it was by far the best part of his game, imo. You don’t get the defence-splitting passes (or even that simple forward pass along the ground to Cullen which got us going so often in the Championship last time) without encouraging the press.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 6:10 pmKompanys management of our goalkeepers last season has probably inspired both of them to be wanting out. That's fine but Premier league teams sussed it out and the operation usually finished up with a pannicy long ball clearance or with the opposition. The opposition press was often too good whereby Muric had to resort to the long ball goal kicks.Greenmile wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:31 pm“Encouraging the press” was the whole point of the “heart stopping tip-tap passing”, and it was by far the best part of his game, imo. Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
An entertaining goalkeeper for sure, but a very complex (solitary?) sort of character.
I have little doubt that his escapade in Switzerland had a detrimental effect on his opportunities under VK's management.
If Trafford had been up to the mark I doubt AM would have had a single PL start.

Re: ARTICLE: Muric departs to become a Tractor Boy
Always underwhelming. Distribution excellent, but the rest of his goalkeeping bang average. As for dominating his box?
What it is about big keepers who lack dominance? Jensen was another - body of a silverback, heart of a mouse.

That was more due to the players he was attempting to pass to. I'm sure if he had city's squad infront of him he would suddenly find it a lot easierCirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:54 pmThat's fine but Premier league teams sussed it out and the operation usually finished up with a pannicy long ball clearance or with the opposition. Probably, but he didn't have them to pass to, just our lot.
Plenty good enough for the Championship, nowhere near PL standard.

His sale was nothing to do with his ability as a goalkeeper, just took the club 6 months longer to sell him than I said.

My favorite Burnley player of the Kompany era.
I will miss watching him , miss the old codgers having coughing fits when he passed the ball out, miss his effortless passing.
That first game against Huddersfield was like watching my home team playing like Barcelona and he was instrumental in that memory.

MEN reporting that City sold him to us for £2.5 million and have now pocketed another £2.5 million from the sell on clause
That might suggest they receive 1/3 rd of future profit Burnley make if he has gone for£10 million

A player I grew to love but he always looked like he was about to throw one in.
His play with his feet was truly remarkable though. Can't recall seeing any goalkeeper so natural with the ball at his feet. It was an absolute joy to watch at times.

You said he would never play for the club again and be gone straight away due to your made up nonsense which clearly you didn't expect to make it on to here, hence you posting it on twitter but not on here.

He's been fun to watch, a bit of a novelty, and I wish him the best but it's a good deal for everyone and if someone said we could take potentially 15m from his sale less than 2 years after buying him I'd say that's a cracking price and sounds like the model we want to pursue working perfectly.
He has made us some goals and won us some points for sure. He's also lost us plenty as well so I'm not sure that argument holds much weight.
