My geography isn't brilliant but I think the closest airport is Jerez which is 39km away

At least people know where it is now
Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Looks a very ramshackle ground, if you can call it that, in the middle of nowhere. Strange choice of venue but maybe nothing else available

The ground isn't an issue, and I've been to friendlies that have been more difficult to get to, just in the past had more notice. These are some of the wonderful stadia I've seen us play pre-season games at.

Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Had everything crossed it was going to be accessible from my hotel in Spain where I'll be with my family. It would mean a 5 hour bus journey and a night over. My wife has only just forgiven me for flying straight to Athens for the Olympiacos game instead of home with family when we were last in Spain.

I've started to sow the seed of hiring a car to see a bit more of Spain. The friendly hasn't come into the equation yet.

Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Why could they not just make it easier for fans? This just seems so strange and as though the prospect of our poor fans having to travel during peak holiday season haven't even entered their thought process.

Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Pre-season is not for fans. The club know that some like to go to a friendly, so this is kind of "ok, if you insist, you can come here", but honestly inland Spain first week in August?

Looks to be no way to get there on public transport from Jerez / Seville. It’s in the middle of no where.
Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
What a bag of bob friendly this is, will be about 40c there and it’s literally in the middle of nowhere.
Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Me and 2 other clarets booked Seville hoping the match would be in Cadiz. If not it's 3 nights in Seville.

Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Just done a quick trawl to estimate costs:
Ryanair LPL-AGP: Outbound 3rd Aug 1620hrs-2020hrs £64; Inbound 5th Aug 1755hrs-1950hrs £108 (Light traveller)
3rd Aug: Hotel Campanile Malaga airport £92
Car hire approx £40
4th Aug: Hotel Pena de Arcos (Close to ground) £54
It's about 2.5 hrs drive Malaga to ground.
Total cost £358 + petrol & getting to the airport in UK.
I reckon it will cost £500 in total depending upon the quality of Rioja that you drink
Why can't they play Shrewsbury away, as it's just 40 minutes drive from me or Chester away which is walking distance

Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
Recall going to watch a friendly in Germany v 1860 Munich U23s. I’m sure you were there CT, I’ve got a photo somewhere of about 50 Clarets outside a bar. Don’t think that ground is on there as it is a baking hot sunny afternoon. Cotterill first pre season. Stayed in Salzburg and got the train over the border. Think a bar got drunk dry. Only memory of the game was Mo Camara getting subbed off before he was sent off.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 5:13 pmThe ground isn't an issue, and I've been to friendlies that have been more difficult to get to, just in the past had more notice. Sure you're all looking at the right place? Doesn't look that difficult from Jerez, just off the A382.

Re: ARTICLE: Cádiz game confirmed
The only thing I could remember about the game was Frank Sinclair scoring our goal, and of course Camara. The pic below is one I took. It was across from the bar where we arrived early and then witnessed so many Burnley fans arriving it was unbelievable. At least 250 of us there in the end. What a great trip that was; we'd played the first game on the Tuesday against Wacker Burghausen and this one against 1860 was on the Saturday. We stayed in Salzburg too.NL Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 8:26 pmRecall going to watch a friendly in Germany v 1860 Munich U23s. That’s the one, thinking about it, my mate might have taken that photo. Probably about 20 years ago to the day. I’m looking a lot slimmer on there than I am now!! Just to the left of Dave Burnley.

Sounds like a badly thought out pre season friendly just over a week to the start of the season. Not easy for team to get there either (though assume private jet). Even in the mountains and an early evening kick off the heat will be debilitating given little or no acclimatising. I suspect Cadiz don't set up to play like Luton and likely to be more of a strolling energy conserving kick about. Don't get it.
