I'm terms of outgoings...

Post by Inchysince1993 » Tue Aug 13, 2024 6:56 am

After such a great showing from all the players, what is the best case scenario for us in terms of outgoings? Surely Esteve and Oshea are must keeps. Is the sale of Berge (if he goes) enough to keep the team we saw last night together?
There has to be sales, so what constitutes a good window for us? Who is a must keep in people's opinions?

Must Keeps

Esteve - left sided centre backs incredibly hard to come by at his level

Berge - how much does it cost to replace him? Brownhill out of contract in the summer and then only Cullen at the level with massengo. If he’s sold we’ll need to bring one in now anyway and face a midfield rebuild in the summer.

Odobert - Levels

Ideally Keep but may need to sacrifice

O’Shea - don’t think there’s much in Beyer, Ekdal and O’Shea and with Al Dakhil depth too. Experience at the level would be a miss.

Koleosho - speed sets him apart but again we are well stocked

Trafford - would need replacing (how much does that cost?) so why not give him the season here but if we can get £20m+ maybe

Fire sale

Egan Riley, Twine, Redmond, Amdouni, Weghorst, Tresor, McNally, Delcroix, Obafemi

Must keep - Koleosho, Odobert, Esteve and O'Shea

Cash in - Trafford, Beyer, Amdouni and Berge

Sell - Obafemi, Egan-Riley, McNally, Twine, Wout and Ekdal

Problem then though would be we'd have to bring a few home grown players in anyway so not sure how the club work it

Money talks, the whole squad is up for sale, it always is.

There's more money to be made from being promoted to the Premier League than selling all your best players when you drop to the Championship.

If we are looking at generating the same money as we did in the summer of 2022 then with the kompany compensation and the muric transfer we probably only need to have one big sale with a couple of squad player sales. We can then loan out players to reduce the squad size

Agree and it’s not like the players de-value after a decent season in this league (which I’m confident they will). Example Summerville going to West Ham for 25-34m, Gray going to Spurs for 40m. Greaves went to Ipswich for 18.5m etc. Only thing is when it’s the player pushing for a move as he doesn’t want to stay, that’s when it’s difficult, as well as making sure cash flows are being balanced for this season.

The problem is that the better we do while the tranfer window is open, the more chance there is of O'Shea, Esteve, Koleosho and Odobert drawing attention from the bigger clubs. Just hope we can hold on to them and if we decide to sell then it's for a ridiculous amount.

I'm heartened after last night's performance that if Berge goes, we can extract a huge price from Man U and still remain solid at the back, provided we keep hold of the rest.
And don't forget, still Beyer and Al-Dakhil to return.

With the sale of Muric and the buy out of Kompany coupled with the reported numbers for Berge I think we’ll be fine. Like someone else said after that it’s just going to be trimming the fat where we want. Only issue is going to be most of the fat that needs trimming is our home grown quota 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'd throw Brownhill into the mix too.

Keep, let him go for free next season but we get promoted and get the £200+ million.

I said on the ratings thread last night that I think it’s vital we keep O’Shea, Esteve, and Odobert if our ambition is to go back up. These three players are a cut above at Championship level.

The money we got for Kompany and Muric, along with what looks likely to be a large fee for Berge, will hopefully help cash flow until the end of the season. We can replace Berge with a loan player, Tyler Morton from Liverpool for example, and we’d be looking exceptionally strong.
