I still keep thinking about the gulf between PL and Championship, and today seeing Ipswich and Saints losing, and probably the same for Leicester on Monday emphasised that, but for now I am going to enjoy this season. What a tonic for any fans who have had mental health issues

Thought we improved a bit second half, still not sure iv seen a more dull 5-0 win. I think it’s a positive we’re winning ugly to start with though and I’m sure we’ll get better (well I hope). He’s got to sort his team selection out though, he’s got better players on the bench, I genuinely forgot Rodriguez was still on the pitch second half and I think my Gran is technically a better football than Lyle.

It's a great win and a dominating second half. What's SP said at HT worked. Fortunate to not be draw at HT certain but will take them luck when it's given to us.

Defence is still an issue and would like to see improvements there as we go on. Similarly to the 22/23 winning season, we were so strong up front it covered up our defensive frailties (due to the fact we were rarely tested by some championship teams) and obviously that then bit us in the arse in the PL last season.

Nobody won the league after 2 games but after some very impressive attacking performances (when we get going) we really look top notch.

Thought is was a very poor game. Cardiff were poor but still could have scored 2
This standard is miles away from the premier league

Excellent second half performance after an intelligent tactical tweak from Scott Parker. So refreshing to see us being managed properly for once.

Foster was good without getting the rewards but they’ll come soon enough for him. Those who know their football can see this.

Genuinely baffled, in what way?

Poor from an attacking perspective?
Poor goals?
Poor atmosphere?
Poor reffing?
Poor result?

We pay our money to see our team win. Sometimes you win well, sometimes you win ugly. Both first and second half today fit those scenarios.

Stuff to improve on of course but if your not happy with a 5-0 home win after a season of hammerings, then maybe Burnley FC isn't the team for you.

4 shots on target, 5 goals

9 goals in 2 games is already 22% of last seasons total

That's all we can do.
We all know even if we go up, the likelihood is that we'll come straight back down, because the gap is so huge.

Just enjoy the (hopefully) batterings our talented squad will be handing out.

9 goals in two games, 8 different scorers and our "star striker" still hasn't got one yet.

first we were pretty average then it ended up a bit of a training session. Not many will live with this side at this level, lets hope we keep the best of them.

I thought Cardiff were much better than us in the first half hour or as we struggled to get to get going. But do have a lot of quality going forward and once we started using the ball better they could not live with us.

While it seems to be fashionable for some to poke fun at Rodrigues' expense the one constant occurrence over the seasons has been that while he is injury free and gets an opportunity to get on the field, he will always come up with a special piece of skill that makes him loved by those Burnley fans who truly appreciate his worth to the team. Even now in his twilight years.

I thought we were pretty poor first half and Cardiff really took hold of the game, their keeper obviously had other ideas early doors but we weren’t at the races for the most part of the half.

Second half was a different story and we were too much for them, still without really getting going ourselves . A quiet game for Cullen in the middle and Foster not having much joy throughout didn’t prove an obstacle and our quality shone through.

What’s really positive here is that we have a lot of scope for improvement , which after winning 5-0 seems ridiculous to say. Parker spoke complete sense too after the game and seems very realistic in these early days which is reassuring , he seems to have brought a feel good factor and some calm to proceedings.

It’s imperative that we try to keep as much of this squad together as possible before the window shuts, I’m well aware that we have to reduce numbers but the early signs look good and we need to be mindful of not weakening our chances too much.

O’Shea looks very comfortable and dominant and will be a big miss if/when he goes.

Enjoyable afternoon at the Turf, UTC

I wonder if SP will rethink playing a 2 in central midfield. I felt Cullen and Brownhill didn’t really get a grip in there.

5-0 and still not totally convinced :D

Isn't it great when you know you're in a tough contest at half time then go out in the second half and show who's boss.
I think Parker will use that to progress despite winning by a big margin.

Its just no coincidence that Brownhill has made two fantastic runs from midfield and scored two opportunist goals. I think this will be due to the new coaching-never happened once last season with Brownhill.Very pleasing to see so much new in the coaching and tactics department

This just about sums up my thoughts.

First half we were poor today, dominated first half by a poor Cardiff side who gifted us the first two really.

Second half was a bit better in terms of general play and brightened by three good goals albeit the latter two were given an age to get their shots off.

Nice to win, not a great performance though all round, but VK started much more slowly so hopefully our performance levels improve and we keep on picking up wins in the meantime.

The game changed when ralls went off injured, Ramsay was bossing the game as a 10, he had less influence as a 6. I thought it was a mistake starting jay, and he should have come off when the third went in.

Don't think we've even got going yet. Get Berge in midfield and without wanting to sound patronising, we will simply demolish an awful lot of teams.

All 3 second half goals were exceptional finishes. Surprised at the negative tones of so many posts after a 5-0 victory. We overcame a surprisingly good Cardiff. Liked the look of Meite but not enough to Google him. Most teams concede possession after going ahead but once we got the second, their threat reduced and we managed the game really well. Skilled players can't always produce match winning performances. Sometimes they are 'just ok' with a 6 or 7 out of 10. Allows our 6 or 7 out of 10 players, to step up towards an 8 or above. Emphasis on 'team'. For example, I thought Koleosho had a very good game carrying the ball, but didn't get anything to come off, but kept working at it. On another day he would have engineered a goal for someone or scored himself. Fortunately he got his reward with the second goal due to Jay keeping the ball in the 'danger zone'.

Burnley 5 Cardiff 0, biggest win against them

Beats Burnley 6 Cardiff 2 back in 1956.

Wheras I take your point on that one, all our 4 previous championship promotions (including the last one) havent given us 2 wins to start
2008-09 2 defeats (0pts)
2013-14 1 draw, 1 win (4pts)
2015-16 2 draws (2pts)
2022-23 1 win, 1 draw (4pts)

The points we have at the end of the season, i'll be more interested in. Will we get 101 again?
