Sitting next to an awful supporter
Today I had the absolute misfortune of sitting next to the most despicable " Burnley fan " that I have ever witnessed in 25 years of watching Burnley.
I quite simply wouldn't be given a free season ticket if it had to be sat near to this loud, foul mouthed lout. I have never met anyone who swore so much and so loudly yet knew so little about football.
If you sit in North Upper 3 anywhere around Row M this season then I really do feel sorry for you.

I’d make a complaint about him and leave it up to the club to sort out

Look. If you have an issue with someone sat near to you, they are swearing or just being unacceptable, then grow a pair and have it out with them. If you lack the moral fibre to do that, then stfu.

Read that the supporter doesn't go on much and won't be affected on a regular basisClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 7:44 pmI’d make a complaint about him and leave it up to the club to sort out
Re: Sitting next to an awful supporter
Bloke sat next to me was a right miserable git ... never stopped moaning

Re: Sitting next to an awful supporter
If it’s just being loud and swearing I’m not sure what the issue is. There’s people that annoy me at the Turf but if they aren’t really doing anything wrong then you either have a word or live with it.

I suppose I’ve been lucky, we’ve been sat with the same people around us since the Longside stand opened.
And they’re all good people.
I don’t know what they say about me, obviously.

Re: Sitting next to an awful supporter
The gentleman who was sat on the other side of me said that he could no longer bring his grand daughter on with him anymore because of how horrendous this supporter was.
Remembering that this behaviour was after a 5 nil win, God only knows what he would be like with a tighter game.

Re: Sitting next to an awful supporter
It's easy to say tell him what you think about him or "stfu" but if he's that bad maybe the OP fears a smack-in-the-mouth if he confronts him.
As for those who think shouting and swearing is normal behaviour at football well clearly there is a massive difference between someone letting the odd swear word rip at moments of stress and someone who is continually loudly swearing and, for example, using the C word.
So my sympathies are with the OP and it's a shame that some people are so cretinous.

It may be the same bloke, but he moved because this cretin was teaching a very young child to give away fans the middle finger.

Re: Sitting next to an awful supporter
When I had my season ticket, we had no real issues ....
My worst experience was 25 years ago, when I took my Dad ( a Notts County fan ), to the relevant home game towards the end of the 1999-2000 promotion season. Dad had had a 6 way by-pass operation around 18 months earlier, had lost a lot of weight, and was quite frail. We sat in the James Hargreaves Upper, and Burnley took an early lead, we mullered them but Dad had risen to his feet briefly, when County had their one real chance in the first half. At half time, I went for 2 Coffees, and when I returned, Dad was visibly shaken ... after I'd left, the d**k two seats to his left had leant over and told him to " Shut the f**k up, or he'd get his head kicked in, like yer mates in the away end ! "
He'd disappeared by this point but once the 2nd half was about to start, Dad went for a pee, as the queues had died down. Whilst he was away, the moron concerned retook his seat. I slid over to sit next to him, I was 36 at the time, 6'4" and 18 stone, and had just finished 15 years as a 2nd Row playing decent standard Junior Rugby, playing against Wade Dooley, Jim Sydall & Bob Kimmins of Orrell. I told him what I thought, said I was going to check up on Dad, and using words that I won't repeat, warned him to move seats .. When Dad and I returned, Dad looked leftwards and saw an empty seat, " Our friend seems to have disappeared " he said. " Yep, I suggested that he might get a better view in the 2nd half if he moved nearer the goal " ... Dad looked at me, " Is that what you said ? ", I just looked at him, " Something like that, yes ! "

Not everyone is confident with challenging someone because of the likelihood of confrontation, and that’s fine.
Pretty much everyone that goes on the footy accepts there will be a bit of foul language and hand gestures. But this sounds like it’s well beyond that.
The right thing to do, is to alert the club and stewards and avoid confrontation. That’s when it gets messy for everyone.

Re: Sitting next to an awful supporter
I’ve seen some poor advice on here but that is simply the worst. Telling a stranger to change their behaviour is almost certain to cause a serious incident. I reckon if you want a fight this would be a great way to start one.

Indeed. I doubt the protagonist is going to see the error of his ways because a supporter he doesn't know tells him he's behaving badly.
