Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
Apparently off to Luton for £4m
He looks a real prospect a look of Ollie Watkins at Villa and one who we could have gone after.

That seems like an insanely low fee in todays market

Re: Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
I mentioned him very early in the January window thread and he has played better since.
Not one for this season but if we are buying cheap to improve and make a profit this guy is a cert. Already proven at Championship level and we need an improving striker, even if only to cover Foster, as this has to be JRods last hurrah.

Re: Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
Having already lost a key attacking player in Finn Azaz (7 goals plus 5 assists) who has been recalled from loan by parent company Aston Villa, it is highly unlikely that Plymouth would entertain bids for Morgan Whittaker. Another player recalled from a loan spell last season resulting in Plymouth having to fork out £1 million to get the player back.

I hope that every player we don't sign won't be met by the old "one we could have got" thing

Re: Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
Good Evening, just thought I would put an argyle fans perspective on things. Firstly we will eventually sell Morgan Whittaker but not at the sums being mentioned. Since last January the club has rejected two offers of 8 million. The clubs being Lazio and Rangers. Whilst we are a small club, we are also a club that has no debt and hard cash in the bank. They like to say that they are in on a sustainable way and whilst there is cash in the bank it is earmarked for things like the 26 million collaboration with the council of upgrading local sports facilities etc. It will get Argyle level 2 academy status but cost them 11 million. I diverge back to Morgan, he currently has three years of a four year contract left. Last season he scored 20 goals and was in the championship team of the season. That is more than Jack Clarke and Pillogene who have just been sold for 15 and 18 million respectively. Obviously argyle have a price they will sell him for but cannot see it happening this window.

It's hard to know if we are actually genuinely trying to sign Whittaker, or putting in offers that we know that you'll refuse both the amount and the format.
Or just making it look like we are trying to get quality players in to take some of the attention off the selling of our own players, many of whom we seem to have either purposely or carelessly unsettled ourselves

Whittaker would tick all the boxes for us. Shows a great lack of ambition on our part if we get the deal over the line !

We at Burnley are proud to say that our prime purpose is to fatten the wallets of a handful of American speculators and merchant bankers.

Why would they sell him for £4 M when we’re offering double that?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 4:10 pmApparently off to Luton for £4m

Re: Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
I can tell how much you care with your posts tonight, hence my comment.
Selling 20 players isn’t normal, you’re correct. Carrying 40 players on the books isn’t either. So with 10? 9 already, players coming in we need to offload 20 players to get a squad size that is manageable. With injuries and U21 players taken into account we might end up with a right amount. Last summers acquisitions proved to be not good enough on the pitch, but do seem to be good for the balance book.

Re: Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
We would've been better allowing control to go to the billionaire who wanted to pump loads of his money into Burnley FC 3 years ago. Oh no there wasnt anybody prepared to put money in to BFC.
Sorry to be sarcastic but were there any alternatives to ALK and their leveraged deal?
More to the point is there a billionaire prepared to invest and buy Burnley nowadays?
I look forward to that day. Until then I'll try to bear with and support the current board and hope they can get things back on an even keel after the last 18 months of crap.

Scott's press conference today clearly inferred it was players who wanted out. The ones who have gone, bar Viti haven't had the 50% pay cut relegation clauses. Not sure on Weggy and Berge either but they were on big cash.
If the club have scooped profit fantastic. Getting sick of hearing AP is trousering the money. Not one person has a strand of evidence of this.
Re: Morgan Whittaker Plymouth
It is a worry though that we are trying to sign everyone on a buy now pay later if we get promoted deal. We are going to be fleeced for players this late in the window but if they want Whittaker they are going to have to pay for him.
