There's always January if we need a striker!

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
From what I’ve seen of Flemming , is very Vydra-ish . But stronger , taller and better with his head.
Which is a good thing for me as I Vyds should have played more.
Hopefully confirmed.

Our last 3 windows have been great drama, compare that to the "powder dry" years and I would take this everyday of the week

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We’ve lost 5 key players and not strengthened in the centre forward department so I’m not sure we can say this is an excellent transfer window. We’ve got good money for the majority of our sales but in the main that hasn’t been used to reinvest for obvious reasons. We’ve also topped up the numbers with loans which to some extent is kicking the can down the road.
That said, at one point this was looking like being pretty catastrophic, with a number of other important players supposedly asking to leave and/or being hawked out to other clubs.
We now have what looks like a competitive squad, which we didn’t have against Sunderland. Time will tell whether we have the quality required. What it does seem is that we’re now looking at a different mould of player with English experience, character and leadership which suggests lessons have been learned. Hopefully we can start to build some continuity going forward as this annual turnover of players is not in any way sustainable to building a successful team.

Remember that’s the English window closed. Other countries can still do business and take our players.

I'll let you have Berge and Odobert as "huge talents". I don't think O Shea is in the same bracket, and despite early promise Zaroury hasn't shown that either to be honest. Those two leaving hasn't left us weaker, imo.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:12 pmI think that's very much up for debate. Especially if Fleming is a loan.
Let's say we've brought in a very cautious estimate of 60 mill from transfers this window, plus parachute payments and then brought in mainly loans to replace huge talents such as Berge, Odobert, O Shea and Zaroury. I really don't see the massive positives that others are seeing, we've downgraded in quality hugely and we don't know where that moneys going. I suppose we will find out in the next 2 transfer windows, if we don't spend anything then big questions need asking.

Hard to say selling all your players within the last two weeks of the window and leaving until the last day to sign three players is a smart way to run a business but they do love a risk

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
@Commy would love it!
Especially as we had to bring on Jack last time to end Wharton bossing the game at deadwood. There’s a part of me wishing for Benson tomorrow for 10 mins to watch their reaction and the bag a worldie.👊

Sounds like we’ve got rid of the deadwood who couldn’t care less about playing for the club and brought in some leaders who know this division. On paper looks a decent enough squad tho still think we are a striker short unless Foster finally steps up.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Parker now has a big job on his hands. Foster, Kolo and Benson have all been rumoured about wanting moves or close to moves. How much truth there is in that we’ll never know, but if they do want out he needs to convince them that between now and January it’s in all our interests to get your head down, graft and perform.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Fair enough..I'm not sure how you can honestly say losing o'shea doesn't weaken us though. Zaroury il give you hadn't performed recently but he's a big talent and I'd much prefer if we had the option to use him as an impact sub tomorrow.willsclarets wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:20 pmI'll let you have Berge and Odobert as "huge talents". Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I think the guys coming to replace Odebert are slightly more mature than him and may be more consistent,O’Shea and Worrall I wouldn’t say there’s a lot between them and Zaroury didn’t pull many trees up at Hull if we get the guy over the line from Millwall I’m sure he’ll score more goals than Berge so all in all I think the squad’s definitely no worse than when we kicked off at Luton and we’ve still got Esteve and Koleosho.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:12 pmI think that's very much up for debate. Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Fantastic window given the carnage of 5-10 days ago.
Strength in every position, some a tad more than others but no glaring weaknesses.
Vitally - squad value will be about £200m still, higher than in 22/23, higher than Leeds and over double every other side in the division.
That should, all other things being equal (they are not of course), make it a 2 horse race.
Really is fantastic compared to my fears of a few days ago. Kudos to Williams, Pace, Parker and the rest. Now the hard work starts..,,,,

And with a January transfer window that should include Ekdal, Beyer, Delcroix, Ramsey and Redmond at the very least

Jay Stansfield wanted to join Birmingham where he spent a very successful loan spell last season scoring plenty of goals. Fulham wouldn’t agree to release him without getting in a replacement hence the scramble to bring in Nelson. Birmingham reportedly paying around £12m for Stansfield.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Flemming takes the window from a 4/10 to a 7/10 for me. That '10' / second striker position was a gaping hole.
Positives:
- Added some much-needed experience/leadership material and a bit of steel.
- Brought some good characters and decent lads to the club.
- Got rid of most of the wantaways/dead wood/bad characters.
- Really strong in centre midfield which wins/loses you football matches.
- Managed to reinforce the wings which surprisingly, had become threadbare.
Negatives:
- Losing our three best players (expected).
- Pretty much all of our wingers play their best stuff off the left - Koleosho, Anthony, Sarmiento, Trésor (eek).
- Bit light at centre forward but Flemming can play there as well as 10 (such an important signing).
- Still a bit weak at fullback.
Questions:
- Who's playing off the right?
- Lots of our midfielders I'd say are more of the box to box / '8' types rather than sitting midfielder / '6' types and I believe more suited for a 4-3-3 than Parker's preferred 4-2-3-1.
Looking at our squad to a man I wouldn't have any from Blackburn anyway, that's for damn sure.
UTC!

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We don't know the attitude or mentality of those players who thought they might be going and it will also take time to meld the squad into being at its best so we need to be a little wary as to whether we are going to be still in the game or not. Clearly things are better tonight than they looked like they were going to be. There are concerns about whether our striker situation is good enough and questions will need to be asked as to the financial position at the club as it looks like we were not really making big bids for anyone. Things will even better when some of our long term injured make their return. We have signed some decent players but would have liked another striker but at least the flood has been quitened down, well at least for now.

Brilliant end to the window. I can't lie... I loved the whole helicopter tracking fun tonight! The squad looks strong again and we've kept some good players and added some experienced championship grit. A great mood booster before tomorrow's game. Well done Pace and co.
