Notes from the Chairman

Alan's notes ahead of Saturday's game

Welcome to Turf Moor for today’s East Lancashire Derby.

At the time of writing these notes we are approaching the end of an incredibly difficult transfer window.

I said when I arrived as Chairman, that I have wholeheartedly bought into Burnley, the Club, the town, and the people. And that the longevity and success of this historic football club would be at the forefront of every decision that we make.

I understand the frustration some of you may have in seeing the amount of movement we have experienced this window, and I appreciate supporters want to build consistency with a settled squad. So do I. Unfortunately, we all know football. Whilst I wish I could share more greatly with you, there are many factors that affect every decision we make during the window.

We all agree though, that we want players who want to play for the badge. We take great pride in our Club, and we want players here who know just what that means - who play for the fans, who play for the town.

Following relegation from the Premier League, we knew that we were going to have to navigate a challenging window, but I can assure you that there are many people working tirelessly to best equip ourselves for the season.

I wish the best to those who have left the Club over the past few weeks and I’m incredibly excited to welcome our new arrivals through the door and to continue building something special.

Burnley Football Club has great resolve. It’s dealt with adversity with a steely grit and determination that excited us from the very first moment. Now we need to go again with that same grit and determination to be successful.

We have a talented Head Coach in Scott and a group of players who have our full support and who need yours as well.

It’s still very early in the season. Everyone knows how tough the Championship is, it tests every element of you and now more than ever, we need to stick together.

I want to be clear, my determination and unwavering desire for this Club has never changed and it never will. I have said from day one that we love the passion for this Club and we’re here to give this our all. We’re with you and like you I’ll be there today willing us on to get a result.

We all want Burnley Football Club to be as successful as it can be. It’s often mentioned that we are a Club that punches above its weight. Well, let’s show that again now. Togetherness breeds confidence, togetherness breeds success. Players, fans, staff, the board, we have the same aim - let’s work to achieve it together.

Lastly, whilst I appreciate the nature of today’s game and the passion of the occasion, I want to reiterate the communications we released earlier in the week in partnership with Lancashire Police and Blackburn Rovers.

We appreciate your co-operation in helping to ensure today is a safe and enjoyable day for everybody. Please adhere to the increased safety and security measures in place to protect us all.

I know just what this game means.

I hope you all enjoy it and let’s get behind Scott and the team. See you this afternoon.

As ever, UTC!

I don't know who wrote that for AP, but it's a well constructed statement. Let's hope we beat the horse-botherers today, but if not c'est la vie, we'll be above them by the season's end and will hammer them at Ewood.

Let’s hope that all the “fans” who have been so vituperative about AP and the board read this and give it a fair consideration.
Some mistakes have been made, as in every area of life. You may dislike the way in which the purchase of the club was financed, but anyone who doubts AP’s commitment to the club and hard work put into it is simply closing his or her mind to reality.
The choice of VK would have been regarded as inspired by every fan at the end of the promotion season. Last season was a disappointment. VK’s approach turned out to be obstinate and, as Stan Ternent would have said, he was trying to play champagne football when the first priority should have been stability.
No doubt AP wishes that he hadn’t given VK such a free hand, but which of us wasn’t dazzled by the first season? We had an articulate and obviously bright manager who had worked a miracle and appeared committed to the club.
No doubt he now bears some of the scars of bitter experience, but he strikes me as someone who is likely to learn from his experiences.
The hostility shown is absolutely unacceptable.
This is a good article by AP and we should all give him the chance to demonstrate that the approach he has indicated will be put into practice.

Haha he can't even get credit for the write up with some.

Why do people need to tell others what they should and shouldn’t do ?

(genuine) criticisms are nothing to do with his commitment to the club. It's to do with his/ALKs model and how the club bears all the liability of the risk.

Frustrating that is deliberately skirted over all the time insinuating that criticisms are baseless and lazy.

Not at all, I have little doubt that AP didn't read and approve that before publication, but I am equally sure that he doesn't have the time to write them himself; that's what you employ press/media secretaries for.

When you consider how the transfer window finished to what it was like two or three days ago, AP proved he is backing our manager.
It seems that no matter what he does, he will never get a fair crack of the whip from certain posters after his leveraged buy out of our club. It’s happened and you need to get over it.
Give the guy a break.
