I genuinely don't understand this argument at all: "you had to think what the scores were going to be" - but she tells you the scores. And the scores are on the screen anyway.
But people might not always be looking at the screen, and the human brain is less likely to be receptive to oral dialogue when it's delivered in a flat, toneless manner - in both my professional and personal life I can think of plenty of people I know who, when they're talking, I find it hard to take in what they are saying or not switch off, and part of my job involves managing teams of professionals and speaking in public, and those people are the ones I'll always 'manage' to ensure they don't speak in public.

I was surprised that it was Pien Meulensteen who read the results, as when she commentates on games her voice isn't flat and toneless, and I thought when she worked as a match reporter on Soccer Saturday she came across well. She certainly isn't suited to reading out the classified results.

The way Simon Thomas 'built up' the 'full classified check' last Saturday I thought Alan Lambourn was back, as though by building up the fact someone else was reading out the results Thomas was acknowledging that he wasn't very good at it, and yet after the build up then he handed over to someone who was worse than him at doing so.

I believe Alan Lambourn is involved in/presents on radio in the Southampton area, with a show on Sunday mornings, I'm going to try to remember to find out if he's still doing that as if so then clearly he hasn't died or been jailed or such like, so either he's decided to retire from Soccer Saturday or Sky have dispensed of his services. And no, it isn't the end of the world either way - my wife and unborn child tragically died 2 1/2 years ago so my sense of perspective/importance is very clear, although even my wife (who had little interest in football) used to say how she liked listening to Alan Lambourn's voice and how he pronounced places and clubs she'd never heard of.

Thanks Pavel for explaining to some of the posters on here that not everyone watches the tv screen, the tone of the announcers voice helps some people know what the score is like when James Alexander Gordon used to do it, the tone was in his voice, thanks for that Pavel again.

Going to be honest, on reading the OP it dose come across as sexist but i think because of who the OP is most posters have gone very easy on him.

Well to be honest it seems an act of tokenism, if for whatever reason Sky are not longer using Alan Lambourn (and in most scenarios, such as death or retirement, a broadcaster would usually acknowledge the service of a longstanding contributor, which I don't believe Sky have done with Lambourn), to start the season with Thomas reading out the results (badly, as indeed he does most things on the programme, he seems to make more mistakes in one week than Stelling made in an entire season) and then after a couple of weeks bring in Pien (who did an ever worse job and happens to be a woman).

Charlotte Green, who I seem to recall took over reading the results on Sports Report when James Alexander Gordon retired, was perfectly okay in the role (I say okay because no-one, male or female, could have matched JAG on the radio).

I'd bet money there is no way Sky would now backtrack and either bring Lambourn back (if he is able/willing to) or ditch Pien and replace her with a man, if they did replace her (which they should because she's no good at it) it would be with another woman for fear of otherwise being called out for being 'sexist'.

If Sky have decided to dispense of Lambourn's services they might as well not have a dedicated person, be it man, woman, fruit or vegetable, from reading out the results and simply let Thomas read them out as part of his presenting duties.

Good job you're not the OP then.

Compared to the tones of the legendary voices we have become accustomed to over the years,
Is it sexist (or misogynistic) to be critical of her bland reading of the results?

He’s not calling her out for being a woman, but he is calling her out for not being very good at that particular part of her job.
Just because he mentioned “some woman “ in his post does not make it a sexist comment.

I grew up listening to the superb voice of Leonard Martin reading the results on Grandstand. And while we’re on the subject, I hate it when people say Queens Park instead of Queens Park Rangers or QPR

Presumably they've got her on the cheap , say National Living Wage.?

Probably because of how someone looking for an argument would cite how the OP wrote "it was terrible they had some woman reading the results & it was that bad" and say that because the OP highlighted it was a woman reading the results then the OP's criticism was about their gender rather than their abilities.

That argument rather falls apart when you take into account the lack of a full stop after 'results' followed by the word 'it' (thereby the OP's use of the word 'bad' is directed at how she read the results, not her gender, and the likelihood that the OP simply mentioned their gender to differentiate between them and the previous readers, both of whom are men (Lambourn and Thomas).

What makes me chuckle is how some outfit called "WomenWhoWow", which describes itself as 'the PREMIER Mentoring and Coaching Platform for Seriously Driven Women Entrepreneurs !" (cut and pasted from their website) posted this on X/Twitter ;

https://x.com/WomenWhoWow/status/1829926751339708701

Given that the viewer can't see the person reading out the results (I don't think Sky ever showed Alan Lambourn), surely posting a picture of Pien and a caption saying "like what you see ?" is demeaning in itself, as though how she looks is important/why she got the role ?!. Which sadly I suspect is also partly true, because there's no way she got that role based on her ability/lack of ability to articulate the results using the spoken word.

Matter of opinion. I don’t find it sexist.
Seems to me that some people enjoy being offended.
