almost certainly, but we would need a slight change in tactics without him...ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 6:40 pmHave we reached the point where England are better without Kane?

Carsley seems to like the Bielsa viewpoint on the touchline.

Re: England match
That's probably because all the players (including the Irish) are thinking about their clubs league games next weekend and not wanting injuries. Nowt at stake.
However, had that been a Euros or WC game, England would have got 4 or 5.
Re: England match
That could easily be the case EC, if not for the fact there's another game midweek.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 7:40 pmThat's probably because all the players (including the Irish) are thinking about their clubs league games next weekend and not wanting injuries. Nowt at stake.

Undoubtedly for me. He was so awful in the euros, it was like playing with ten men at times.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 6:40 pmHave we reached the point where England are better without Kane?
Thing is, by moving to Saudi, Toney has effectively ruled himself out… how can you prove how good you are by week in week out playing players who are a few leagues below your current level?
We need a rethink up top.

We have seen a steady decline in his England performances since the start of the last Euros. Today he was incredibly quiet-time to start planning his imminent replacementClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 6:40 pmHave we reached the point where England are better without Kane?

Has anybody else seen the pictures of the pitch invader in England strip at the lineup before the game today?

Just play Palmer as a false nine like he did at times for Chelsea last season.

Re: England match
It was pretty much same old same old.
A brilliant second goal, but we scored some brilliant goals when managed by the dull one.
Is it boredom or a lack of fitness why we can't get a good full 90 minutes?

The manager is obviously addicted to strepsils. I saw him taking at least a couple. They were even the originals that are hard to get in supermarkets.
Re: England match
I started watching just as England had scored the second goal.I thought it was dull just like Southgate throughout,so from the comments I assume that England were much better beforehand.

Im praying he gives him his 100th cap v Finland on Tue and then says ‘thanks for what you did’ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 6:40 pmHave we reached the point where England are better without Kane?
Sadly tho, until we get to a point where he’s a sub coming on for the last 10 mins……I think the end isn’t in sight.
I’d decided we should have ditched him for good in the Euro’s.
Re: England match
I'm sure and hope he'll continue for at least a couple of years. By far our best striker.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 10:10 amIm praying he gives him his 100th cap v Finland on Tue and then says ‘thanks for what you did’

Re: England match
There was quite a bit of trouble after the game with mainly young Irish lads taunting England fans with songs about the death of Queen Elizabeth.
A lot of the English had been drinking for much of the day and it didn't take long for them to retaliate. Most of the police, including several on horseback, were kept busy with skirmishes going on mainly at a bottleneck between 3 or 4 pubs and bars.

The young English involved looked like doughnuts, fronting the Irish with phones in hand.
Re: England match
On my way to the match, a load of fans were singing offensive songs outside Slattery's, but I think the trouble wasn't that widespread. Always just a few numpties ruining it for others. As you say, there's a few pubs there near the railway bridge and that's where cops were most visible.Targetman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 5:53 pmThere was quite a bit of trouble after the game with mainly young Irish lads taunting England fans with songs about the death of Queen Elizabeth.

From an Ireland perspective, we were terrible. Men against boys. We stood off England and let them play. Could have been much worse than 2. I saw that Pickford made a save but cannot for the life of me recall that
Re: England match
Annoyingly, and predictably, Rice and Grealish were the best players, and I thought Gordon was good as well. Only Ogbene tried for Ireland. Towards the end we had 3 ex-Clarets in our back 4. Brady is probably done at international level, probably has been for a while to be honest

Yes it was a good trip, my first visit to the Relublic of Ireland. We saw no trouble of any kind around the city centre, just on the route from the away fans exit at the end of Bath Avenue.
Just a point about the away end behind the goal, the concourse is incredibly small with just a tiny toilet block, and the view from our seats behind the corner flag was obstructed by a huge concrete pillar.

Re: England match
We’ll just have to disagree I’m afraid. He’s as slow as an oil tanker these days.
Much rather have Toney or Watkins. Much more mobile.
My prime example would be where kane did nowt in 95 mins. Toney comes on and we’re 2-1 up in 120 seconds. Goa and assist was it?
He’s absolutely finished. Too many don’t realise the team is more important than the individual.
We won the world cup without our best striker at the time.
I could argue that Gordons a better player than Foden if you look at how the team played on Sat.
We may both agree (or not) that Foden is the better player. But Gordon is undoubtedly the best fit. Therefore the ‘better’ player to be in the team
Its the same in reverse for Kane. No matter how good you want to tell me he is, he’s sadly as much use as a chocolate fireguard in this side

Totally agree with all of this and for me, Kane has always gone missing once the level steps up against better teams/players.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 11:17 pmWe’ll just have to disagree I’m afraid. He’s as slow as an oil tanker these days.

My unpopular opinion is that England would have been a better side with Vardy leading the line, now it's Watkins/Toney for sure.

Ahhh well , not much i can say really as we were outclassed .
The first 10 mins was a great atmosphere but once England scored it was game over .
Talking to a lad from Sheffield before the game in a pub lots of English mixed with Irish which was great to see .
Hummm roll on Tuesday at Lansdowne
