Windows Defender
Is this adequate to protect my laptop or do I need an additional security suite. I currently also have Kaspersky but want to bin it when it expires in January.

Re: Windows Defender
Probably yes, but also certainly not.
If someone wants to get your laptop, and they can, then they will, and no amount of AVG or Norton or Kaspersky or Windows Defender will stop them.
But most people don't want to, and won't, so you only need defence against those trying their luck, like african gold miners or horny women in your area.

You need defending from horny women in your area? Where do you live? Asking for a friend

Oops!
Re: Windows Defender
Additional anti virus is not needed these days really. Windows is good.
If you're conscious run something free like SpyBot every couple of weeks.

Yes, it's fine. Just remember to scan every week or so if you want to be sure. Remember though, the default scan setting is 'Quick Scan'. I always select 'Full Scan' mode. You have to choose this every time you want to do a full scan.

Re: Windows Defender
I've used only Windows Defender when I got Windows 10 for my desktop in 2020. I use it only on my home router. It works smoothly in the background. It has never found anything naughty and I've never had any issues. I don't go on any naught sites - honestly!!!

Pirate Software confirming (He used to hack Nuclear power plants for the US Government). WD is all you need (Plus the occasional malware check, like SpyBot).

Re: Windows Defender
Windows Defender is perfectly adequate these days. A lot of people choose to couple this with Malwarebytes Free.
Re: Windows Defender
I asked this question years ago and was told IF windows couldn't make anti virus protection for their own system it was a poor do , so I thought fair point
