Why not, that would also open up a spot for Lee Grant. Anybody else?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 10:14 amOn the criteria for selection. Can we include Jack Cork. I know we signed him permanently but it was six years after he’d been with us on loan.

Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
Supporters raised some of the money for the White signing as they'd done a year earlier when we signed Steve Davis.

Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
Sam Vokes if we use the same principles as Cork?
Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
Did he go away and come back like Cork? Think he may have, if only for a short while.

Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
I was very underwhelmed when we signed him permanently however in that spell he looked to be in a lot better shape than his loan spell when looked cumbersome.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 1:06 pmVokes was here on loan from November 2011 to January 2012. He then went to Brighton on loan and we signed him the following summer.

He stepped up with Dyche, the one manager who got the very best out of him.

That was his best game for us as well

Scored a decent free kick on his debut if I remember correctly

Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
Yup and by some distance
Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
We’ve had some shockers on loan like Dele Adebola, Delroy Facey and Delfonso.
If we are including Cork then surely Bardsley has to be at right back. I thought Russel Anderson was good then he broke his leg.
Paul Mcveigh was quite good for us then did he turn us down?
Another couple of disappointments in John Guidetti and that other Swedish player Dyche had on loan in his first 6 months, Kackernicklic (butchered spelling, fair play if you can spell his name without Google)
Also shout out Micheal Kightly even though he doesn’t fit due to signing permanently. He wasn’t quite the same explosive player he was at Wolves but he was very good for us.

Other shockers, Facey reminded me of Gareth Farrelly, then there was Paul Mahon, Stewart from Hull, Steve Guinan. Was Nick Pickering a loan? Steve Morgan? Richard Huxford, Andy Kiwomya, so many to mention.KRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 3:28 pmWe’ve had some shockers on loan like Dele Adebola, Delroy Facey and Delfonso.

By the new/revised rules
Walker
Bardsley
Cahill
THB
Maatsen
Tella
Cork
Djemba Djemba
JBL
Nugent
Cole
I was tempted to put Vokes in but that would be for what he did after his loan spell and not during it so I decided against adding him.

Stanislav Varga reminded me of a Scania , had the same turning circle ... Mark Kendall

Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
Varga made his Sunderland debut in a home win against Arsenal on the opening day of the season (2000/01 I think). My mate said they'd signed an absolute star, he was going to be a brilliant player for them. In the following midweek they played Man City at Maine Road and I went with him. They lost 4-2 and he was shocking. I saw nothing of him at Burnley to suggest there had been any improvement.

It's a very good shout but I will stick with Cahill and THB. I think Andy Todd was also a good shout.

I know, but the fact he wore a Burnley shirt was still amazing. I loved that little period we had of signing superstars of football! Even if their best days had gone.

I remember being really disappointed when we didn't sign him, but Crichton did OK in his place (who I think we had on loan before Ward too).

4/3/3
Based on personal opinion of impact on the team at the time of signing on loan.
Andy Marriott - Played in all of our 9 games winning run, which set us up for the Championship. Gutted when we didn't sign him.
Steve Baker - Little did we know he was the best right back we would have for a long time to come.
Gary Cahill - We all said he was a future England International - The Villa fans laughed at us.
Peter Haddock - Not a big name but a class(es) above what we had at the time.
Ian Maatsen - The perfect example of a modern full back and their influential impact on the game.
Paul Cook - Sublime passing abilty. Biggest compliment I can pay is that when he played well Burnley played well.
Eric Djemba Djemba - Class, just pure class and was quite obviously playing well below his level turning out for us.
James O'Connor - Added a fiesty component to our midfield, composed and never let us down becoming a mainstay.
David Johnson - Gave us something we had been missing - pace, power and finishing. He gave us a glimpse in the FA Lancs youth team final at the Turf when he tore us apart.
Paul McGee - Very important goals that helped promote us - "We'll take more care of you - Paul McGee"
Gerry Creaney - In the end his goals were a big reason for us staying up and extremely underrated. Without him we would have already been dead and buried before Peyton arrived.

Absolutely. He made the difference and I’m certain we’d have been back in the bottom division again had we not signed him. Thankfully he is ruled out of this team because we signed him permanently. Outstanding signing.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 3:17 pmPaul Cook - Sublime passing abilty. Biggest compliment I can pay is that when he played well Burnley played well.

Re: Your Best 'Loan 11'
I worked in Manchester at the time with a few City fans from Sale / Altrincham, they said he was always out on the town with a group of hanger on ers. I remember us playing Carlisle at home on a Saturday , think he’d scored a couple in the first half, after 30 minutes Creaney was on the touchline by the dug out taking on a lot of water whilst hanging on to his shorts, blowing out of his arse. It was the time when City had about 40 players on the books , most of them didn’t like playing at Maine Rd due to the abuse . Think it was Joe Royle who said he didn’t know who half of them were and some were institutionalised Pontins League players.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 3:17 pm4/3/3
