Re: REPORT: Clarets march on together to Elland Road win
A great report. Thank you!
“ We will play much better than this; we will have to, of that there is no doubt. When you go to watch your team, you hope it is going to play well although you can’t blindly expect it to. What you can, and what you should, expect is for them to give it everything they’ve got.
My word, our team did just that yesterday. This was a team, they might hardly know each other, but the way they supported each other, they way they worked for each other, was so evident. The togetherness they showed left every single Burnley fan in there bursting with pride.”
Spot on!!

Good report. Was the 2004 win under Cotterill? If it was I was there, I think it was a night game, we were stood as away supporters behind the goal.

Cheers, CT.
Always good reading about one of the away games you really want to win.
The effort & team spirit was brilliant.
All the more remarkable given its such a new team.

Re: REPORT: Clarets march on together to Elland Road win
I couldn't find the shuttle buses prior to the match so I ended up getting a taxi.
After the match, I asked various stewards and police officers where the buses back to the centre went from. None of them knew (!) so I ended up walking. Took about half an hour. I suppose the walk did me good.
After a result like that, I didn't mind.

Jermaine Wright scored against us in under a minute the season after too, for Millwall, also in a 2-1 Burnley win. Future Premier League winner Nathan Dyer scoring for us.

And later in the season when he scored for Millwall, he also scored in under a minute against us for Southampton but the goal was credited as a Phil Bardsley own goal.distortiondave wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 10:11 amJermaine Wright scored against us in under a minute the season after too, for Millwall, also in a 2-1 Burnley win. Re: REPORT: Clarets march on together to Elland Road win
It's 2.2 miles each way according to Google Maps. At least it's reasonably flat.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 9:56 amI couldn't find the shuttle buses prior to the match so I ended up getting a taxi.

That’s an unbelievable reply from the stewards and police, I think they have just chosen not to tell you.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 9:56 amI couldn't find the shuttle buses prior to the match so I ended up getting a taxi.

The buses run from Sovereign St in the city centre, less than 5 mins walk from the rail station, they run from 90 mins before ko and return after the match from Elland Road (opposite corner to where away fans are housed)

Re: REPORT: Clarets march on together to Elland Road win
Good to know. I ended up driving as I always have before as I’d read somewhere that it was an hour walk back to the station. With the early KO, etc I thought I wouldn’t chance it.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 9:56 amI couldn't find the shuttle buses prior to the match so I ended up getting a taxi.

Was it a pretty safe/decent route?

Re: REPORT: Clarets march on together to Elland Road win
It's an easy walk in terms that it's flat but it's not a short walk. I think it was close to 2:50 when we came out of the ground and we were at the station for 3:43 and we didn't rush it. First time I've done it for a first team game, my only concerns were my old body and legs.

That ties in with exactly what I’d read (forget where), thanks for confirming.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 11:38 amIt's an easy walk in terms that it's flat but it's not a short walk. I don’t mind a walk but for a 12:30 KO it just added a bit of extra uncertainty and my lads often don’t feel comfortable so I went with what I knew this time. Good to know for future though.
You need to get an UTC scooter Tony, in claret and blue, with Burnley flags (shop bought ones, of course) flying off the back

" Luca Koleosho solo goal in the 18th minute was enough to ensure victory and give us our first clean sheet at Leeds since winning there 2-0 in 1927."
Doesn't that mean a first clean sheet ever against Leeds Utd at Elland Rd? Wasn't it Leeds City then who were wound up a few years later?

If I’m honest, I’ve been a bit bemused by all the Leeds hype and expected us to be far more competitive, but we showed great resilience and togetherness. I expect that will have done the team so much to build confidence.
Also a great point made by Tony that 6 of the starting 11 weren’t Burnley players vs Sunderland. I hadn’t clocked that. Illustrates the great job Parker is doing so far.
Re: REPORT: Clarets march on together to Elland Road win
Yes NewClaret, to think most of the team had only played together on the training ground before the game the way they all dug in and grafted for each other was great to see and sets us up for a great season.

No - it was Leeds United. Leeds City was dissolved in 1919.Petersa wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 12:21 pm" Luca Koleosho solo goal in the 18th minute was enough to ensure victory and give us our first clean sheet at Leeds since winning there 2-0 in 1927."

Quite right CT and thankyou, just double checked on Google. Had it in my head that it was 1929 that Leeds City were wound up. Before anyone asks no I wasn't around at the timeClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 1:52 pmNo - it was Leeds United. Leeds City was dissolved in 1919.
