Yes, and yes, but I hope that the version of gates of delerium that you proposed is the live version, which is just as close to perfect as you can get.
Is that the one at QPR in '75? I went to the Stoke City concert. Gryphon, Ace, SAHB and Yes. Unfortunately it rained maybe 2/3 of the way through Yes's set and they had to finish. Rain driving into the Boothen End, where the stage was. Great day out, though. Beers in the Roman Candle in Hanley before the gig.

Not to mention the 10 minutes of yapping on between each song when he plays live … “get on with it for Pete’s sake”

I used to be in a Springsteen tribute band (in fact I’ve been in two) although not a massive fan myself, as a guitarist what used to annoy me was that he employed a couple of excellent guitarists but still insisted on playing lead on some songs, and tbh they are a bit rubbish, and what’s worse is that I had to mimic it!
Just let Nils play it.

Mind you I shouldn’t knock him because he’s made a darn site more money out of it than I have or ever will.
He’s massively cut down on the talk in recent years and he certainly makes a lot of people very, very happy indeed when he performs which isn’t bad if he’s “a bit rubbish” !!
Prove it all Night is usually used as a showcase for Nils and it’s tremendous.
An untouchable live act, even now when he’s just gone 75.

Anyway as for long album tracks, and leaving Bruce aside, the Eagles Last Resort , Green Day’s Jesus of Suburbia and Radiohead, Paranoid Android immediately come to mind.

I think this long version (just over 8 mins) is worth hearing - one of the great Rock & Roll tracks. I don't like the shouty singing though.

Pre ‘It Bites’, met Francis through a mutual friend who lived in Keswick, we used to do Everley Brothers etc through the summer and made a packet.
He’s a top performer.
He’s a pretty nifty guitarist too. Done some backing vocals on a Jon Anderson album also.

Did you see Rory's strat is up for auction?

The Irish government are under pressure to keep it in the country.

They reckon it'll sell around £1,000,000.

I had seen that. I believe brother Donal is selling all Rory’s guitars.
TBH, it’s a ridiculous price. I Wonder Who would pay that…

Leave Them All Behind by Ride on the Going Blank Again album. And the instrumental Grasshopper also by Ride. Like the op I’d put Telegraph Road in my top 3. There is some cracking tunes on this thread us Clarets have pretty good musical taste

There must be a ten minute track featuring some guitar play by Slash. November rain was 9 minutes so not far off.

I didn’t say he was totally rubbish, just his attempts at playing lead guitar which are a bit rubbish (this of course is just my opinion along with other guitarists I know, and others on this very thread)

Anyhoo, I also know how many people love BS, and judging by the many many people that came to see our tribute bands are committed and fervent fans.

Whilst on the subject of old Brucey when you go to his concerts it’s WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) you just get to see the band. No fancy light shows, no special effects definitely no backing tracks or auto tune (thank goodness) but he puts his heart and soul into the performance, and I have seen him several times.

Another band I was in the guy who wrote most of the material is a massive Bruce fan and the music we made is a blend of Bruce and The Clash. (Two albums available on all digital platforms if you’re interested)

Actually it’s no dream. It depends what you like in a singer. I never saw him as a singer, more a guitarist. I don’t play guitar at all but I’m pretty good, or was, as a singer.

Question: is a singer a musician? I personally don’t think so.

Asking a singer what his/her range is or favourite key signature usually answers that question.

The End by The Doors

Anything around 8 minutes has to be Comfortably Numb or Blue Monday.

Could sit and listen to all three on repeat all day long even though they are all really quite depressing

Ah, you may have misunderstood me - I was saying he'd never admit that he thought anyone was a better singer! Though I think you need belief to perform at a good level, and he's not short of that.

I think you might mean "Sweet thing/candidate/Sweet thing reprise"? Great song ...also love we are the dead on the same album.
Diamond Dogs is definitely the longest track on the album….about 6 minutes long
Got a feeling though that the reason that I might think it was longer that on the original vinyl copy (I can’t check as no longer have a vinyl player !) that there may have been no gap between the diamond dogs track and Sweet Thing and possibly no gap to Candidate either. Both Sweet Thing and Candidate are short tracks.

I have a memory of the those 3 songs being absolutely mesmeric and just listening to them endlessly.

In this age of digital downloads you really miss that feel of an album and the order of the tracks which when you listen to musicians was an art in itself choosing the sequence of the singles. On your favourite albums you always remember exactly which song comes next !

What an album Diamond Dogs was btw - gets forgotten a little after the masterpieces of Hunky Dory, Rise and Fall of ZS, and Aladdin Sane. He did record Pin Ups before Diamond Dogs but that was an album of covers - not my favourite but does have the fantastic Sorrow on it and I also have that on a limited version picture disc which is apparently worth quite a lot of money now !!

Yes. I think they supported somebody that I went to see once, and I acquired a cd of theirs, love over fear, when it got good reviews and turned up in a shop somewhere, but although it seems to have good reviews, I wasn't that into it. Could you recommend something from their earlier work?

I stumbled across them in the early Covid era. The album I posted here to be precise. Other than that, I've only listened to a couple of them and can't recall the names of the albums. This is a very good album, though. Naturally, not everyone will like it. They've been going since 1979.

The Irish government are under pressure to keep it in the country.

They reckon it'll sell around £1,000,000.
Crowleys Music Store in Cork, where he brought it, have a go crowdfunding page to try and get it back. They are doing very well but would, obviously, get no where near the £1m predicted.
If the Irish government went in with them and kept it at home it would be wonderful.

Massive Floyd fan so Comfortably Numb is a great shout for me, featuring what has been voted the greatest guitar solo by Dave Gilmour.
Incidentally, don’t know if any interest but going to see a Floyd tribute group at the Mechanics in November, Pinked Floyd. Saw them about ten years ago and they were terrific.

Just short of three octave range at my best but far better at top end. Ever since a throat infection a few months ago when I pretty much couldn’t speak I seem to have somehow lost my mid range. My mid now sounds like a cross between Rod Stewart and Kermit the Frog. Not great. But then again at my age I don’t pretend to be like I was. Unfortunately vocals are affected by age more than say playing an instrument.
