Quality wise, the standard's very low. It's competitive coz they're so many teams like-for-like, but you have to admit it's a rubbish league quality wise. I don't think there's a gap between any league as big as the Prem & Championship! You only have to read this board - we're 2nd and are absolute rubbish, and will never hold our own at the top once we start playing decent sides... yet teams like Rovers and Leeds, who looked useless as well, are in the top 6!

Tend to agree, however from a club development side we need the PL money for growth and investment. After Vinny spent so much last summer would expect a more conservative approach IF we went up this season.

We got more money back in then he spent, and still have multi million pound assets still at the club to sell if neededmybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 5:38 amTend to agree, however from a club development side we need the PL money for growth and investment. It’s a very good league, for both quality and competitiveness. Just snobbery to think otherwise.
Plus there’s no VAR.

Is that right? I thought we were in a spot of peril? No doubting you BTW. Hope we do have some cash, because as strong as we are we still need to strengthen the starting 11.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 6:55 amWe got more money back in then he spent, and still have multi million pound assets still at the club to sell if needed

Re: These games win Championships
The quality is ,as with football the world over, determined by the amount of money available to attract players from the stock of available professionals and the football we watch in the Championship is the level which can be sustained by the available finance. To say we are “absolute rubbish” is just nonsense. Have you ever played football ? Ever played against someone who was even semi-pro and realised how vast the gulf between them and you is ? We are challenging at the top end of the second tier of pro-football in England and the highest level not under-pinned by sovereign wealth and huge commercial revenues.
This board is really aggravating me at the moment. We seem to have a lot of fans expecting the team to be playing like prime-Barcelona and finding anything other than a free-flowing 3-0 win boring. We have had a major reset as a club after a period which was exciting, then traumatic. The story continues …. we are evolving….support the team and enjoy the ride !!!

All true Albans....but the reality is that it'd be the same numpties howling for pragmatism and skriking the board down if we didn't look like going up automatically.
It was ever thus....its an internet thing...

You've taken my quote out of context, so obviously not read my full comment. It was tongue in cheek. I said if you read this board and the comments around. It wasn't my opinion!! Looking back I should've written 'we're 2nd, but rubbish apparently'Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 8:28 amThe quality is ,as with football the world over, determined by the amount of money available to attract players from the stock of available professionals and the football we watch in the Championship is the level which can be sustained by the available finance. Re: These games win Championships
One thing we must not forget is the age of this team. The average age of the team that started against Plymouth was 23 with only two players (Cullen and Brownhill both 28) being aged over 24. This is extremely young for a new team playing in the Championship: they need to learn and adapt to this and this is where Scott Parker will earn his money. Also, being such a young team/squad they will need the fans support more than most other teams in the division. Please bear this in mind when you are watching the boys at home and away.

Re: These games win Championships
Certainly competitive even if the quality of finishing is so much weaker I don’t think it’s snobbery to have this opinion. The absence of VAR makes celebrating a goal so much betterNottsClaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:08 amIt’s a very good league, for both quality and competitiveness. Just snobbery to think otherwise.

Re: These games win Championships
Compared to the Prem, yeah. But the Championship is a very good league in its own right. Prior to the mid-90s, half of these players would be playing in the top flight. Those places are taken now by the best from around the world, but the knock on effect means the quality is probably better than ever in the 2nd division.
So yeah, it is snobbish to say it's a crap league (I know you didn't say that, but I've seen it loads recently). Outside of the playground of oil barons and US corporations, it's as good as it gets.

I do think you make a good point about the influx of foreigners and the subsequent downgrading of British players.
Maybe younger fans have been brainwashed by the likes of Sky TV productions and ‘ football experts’ like Jamie Garragher into believing the hype about the PL being so superior.I know a lot of the older generation like myself are not fooled.

Think today's football is infinitely faster and more skilful than its counterpart in the 80s. Even comparing the British players then and now.Elizabeth wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:56 pmI do think you make a good point about the influx of foreigners and the subsequent downgrading of British players.

The Premier league is a hell of a lot more superior than the Championship and many of the European top tier leagues too. Spurs Reserves comfortable win last night v the runaway leaders of the Hungarian top division for eg.
