Esteve
Heaven and Earth must be moved to prevent this guy from slinging his hook
in January, wasn't sure about him when he signed, but now he's first on the team sheet for me.
Playing like he is means he's gonna be in great demand for a middle PL side, but if he goes, let's get
Odebert-type money for him.
Really good signing.

Re: Esteve
Really surprised you could be unsure about him initially. He’s an absolute class act and was from day one. Key reason our form improved so much after January.
I could understand him being hacked off after some pretty insipid attacking displays but by god if we sell him we really might as well throw the towel in. We need to be adding in January, not even considering selling.

Re: Esteve
Surprised he’s still with us, I thought the big boys would be sniffing in the summer and I don’t mean the likes of Everton/Wolves. He’s got the absolute lot, pace size strength and he’s left footed which is a bonus.
I haven’t seen him beaten in a foot race yet. A one man wrecking machine at this level which makes it even more surprising Parker is playing so conservatively with his midfield selection.

Re: Esteve
He is a diamond, will go to the top, and I agree that having him at the back should allow for some risk further forward. We are playing with the handbrake on, there really is no need. Saying that though we are not far off, just small tweaks needed to triggers, when to go, etc.

If a decent offer comes in in January he'll be off. Great player for us, head and shoulders the best in the league but money talks at the end of the day.

Re: Esteve
I rate a defender by how I am feeling when they are doing their job and Esteve gives me the same feeling as all the other great defenders I have watched over the last 60 years
Re: Esteve
If he is happy to stay then great but he deserves to playing in a better squad at a higher level.

What a player he is. He’s so calm and also very strong and fast. Hes got it all
Re: Esteve
He should go to the top - class act in all aspects of his game.

Re: Esteve
Its only time before someone comes in for him-maybe January. We need to set our price accordingly, which I have more faith in the club doing now than they would have done 12 months ago. Because of his age he could be close to Braithwaite's valuation

Amongst his many qualities I really like the way he covers for others - Pires, Worrall, Egan-Riley. You see it every game. Yes it may well be his job but he does it so well and reliably.

Re: Esteve
My prediction is that he will be our highest ever sale price, eclipsing Odobert. His profile is in such short supply, especially left footed.

Re: Esteve
He’s the best player we’ve had in the last 2-3 years and by some significant distance. Immense.

Should do everything conceivable to keep hold of him for as long as possible. I’d have him as captain.

Re: Esteve
The bonus is if we don't go up then we can at least use the money we get for him and Koleosho to continue being big challengers in this division for at least 3 or 4 years
Re: Esteve
Or all of that. A genuine pleasure to watch. Reads the game like a veteran. Crucially he has pace. That one run was hopefully a sign of things to come.

Reminds me of a young Gary Cahill
Re: Esteve
This boy is pure class on and off the pitch honest and polite in his interviews could be another Martin Dobson! We have to keep him at the club all season “ BUT”

Re: Esteve
Our best player by some distance. I hope his new deal didn't have a low release clause, I'd be wanting 30 + for him and even more in January
Re: Esteve
It will have had one, why else would he sign an extension just months after signing, but I'd assume (hope) it will be one that only activates if we fail to get promoted.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:06 amOur best player by some distance. He’s absolute class. Just a shame we haven’t got Beyer fit and alongside him.

He’s an absolute Hyundai of a player.

Or Ekdal. Both were too good for this leagueSteve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 6:57 amHe’s absolute class. Just a shame we haven’t got Beyer fit and alongside him.
Re: Esteve
Re. Gary Cahill. He had an excellent career. However, I saw him more as a stopper. Maybe it's partly due to the difference in body shape, but Estève looks more "fluidly". I think Steve will end up going forward more when either Egan-Riley has played more games or one of Beyer/Ekdal returns.
Re: Esteve
I can be see him replacing Van dijk at Liverpool he is that good.
Got to be talking over 50 M when we unfortunately sell him.
The best I have ever seen in over 50 years of being a claret.

As a fan of a certain age I don’t get carried away with players these days but “Steve” is going to be a class player i just hope we get to see him play along side Beyer, in his interviews he is always polite and answers best he can he is a star in the making in every sense. He impresses every time i see him the biggest compliment i can give him he reminds me of Martin Dobson(is that showing my age ?)

Re: Esteve
Even if an offer came for him in January, we should be in a position that we don’t need to sell him ie in running for promotion, and can wait until summer
He doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy that would down tools if we turned down offers

Re: Esteve
Yes Goliath. Totally forgot about Ekdal how about. Steve - Beyer - Ekdal all three together or any 2 from 3 would be great
Re: Esteve
Another MUD Analytics signing. But apparently they’re duds according to some on this board
Re: Esteve
I think he's been excellent this year; either our best, or close to best, performer. However, I do think he's not been immune to our collective defensive issue of slow, sometimes overly safe, passing. During some of the less riveting passages of play in recent games, I've been musing on whether this is down to a more 'continental' style of centre half possession or whether he's operating under instruction and is capable of carrying the ball out a little more.
For me, we desperately need of a reliable way of progressing the ball from defense into midfield which isn't the same old, pass it between the centre-halves 3 times before giving it to a full back route. Could he step out a little more with the ball, a la Steve Davis? He seems technically composed and competent enough to do so but haven't seen a lot of it in his game to date.

Re: Esteve
He made a tentative move going forward late in the game on Sunday, then spoiled it by a pathetic attempt to get a penalty (no doubt the coaches will work on his diving technique if they are going to allow him further forward runs).
Don't forget he is playing with our other top performer, Egan-Riley. The two seem to work well together. I don't see how anyone else can get in ahead of these two at the moment unless there is some radical change to the system.
