A very formidable and capable leader. Astonishingly i tended to agree with a lot of his policies and ideas apart from the 2 major ones, Independence and EU membership.

I would imagine that there will now be plenty of claims appearing.

RIP, didn't agree with him but his passion for Scotland was admirable.

His passion shined and he stood for what he believed in, and that's all you can ask for in a politician I say. Old skool and wore his heart on his sleeve. A sad loss. RIP.

RIP. Respect the man. Not his politics. Very good at what he did. Thank God we still have a submarine basis at Faslane and a nuclear deterrent.

Worked hard at his core strategy of turning Scotland's resentment of the English into a much more intense racial dislike..and it worked.

His presentation to Scottish audiences was very different to that intended for wider consumption.

He took the cause of Scottish Independence from a fringe, weirdo spectator sport, to the serious heart of mainstream politics and was a whisker away from fulfilling his dream. That was an amazing achievement and he was a formidable politician, whether you agree with his views or not.

I met him when my late wife and I were in the only hotel on the idyllic island of Colonsay in the 90’s
Engaged in political debate for a while and he and his wife were good company
We all took the same ferry off the island later in the week and he came over to wish us a safe trip home
He was a formidable politician who picked up his party from the doldrums and took it into Government
He also stepped down on losing the referendum in keeping with most political leaders in the UK
Sad news
RIP Alex
