Re: A Shot on Goal?
Surprise surprise you didn’t answer the question.Rowls wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 10:16 pmHladky - played in a promotion side last season
Worrall - promoted a few years ago
McNally - done well in this division for two years
Massengo - was dictating matches in this league 2-3 years ago for Bristol and we payed £8million for him
Mejbri - similar to Massengo with Birmingham.
Brownhill - no comment necessary. We know he can do it.
There's plenty of young lads in our side but they all have promise.
If we don't even have a shot on goal for two games running then it's a BIG problem.
I've seen sides managed by Stan with barely a tenth of the talent at Parker's disposal put up better showings than we've had over the past two games.
It's not going to be enough if we have a manager who can only do well if they have the resources to 'outgun' the opposition with talent. That might work if you're Man Utd or Bayern Munich but at Burnley it will spell disaster.
Anyway, let's hope Parker has it in him.
I'm off to bed! Night night!
How do you know the young lads have promise when you have hardly seen them play ?
We didn’t buy Massengo for £8m - he came on a free. Not sure if you have ever seen him play other than these last couple of games for Burnley in which he’s looked nearer to an 8 quid player than 8 million.
I reckon there were at least 7 players in our team tonight that you have never (or hardly ever) seen kick a ball. Yet you seem to assume they have promise.
To say that the events of the last 2 weeks have not had any impact on our performance tonight and last weekend has got to be one of THE stupidest things I have ever read on this board…..and that’s a pretty low bar.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
Shots on goal since the start of this thread:
Sunderland (A) 1
B Rovers (H) 3
Leeds (A) 3
Portsmouth (H) 4
Oxford (A) 1
Plymouth (H) 3
PNE (H) 1
These are very low numbers. Especially for a side at the top end of the table, with a strong squad and who are aiming for automatic promotion.
Granted, we do restrict our opposition to low shots in return but it's looking more and more like a definitive feature of football under Scott Parker.

Parker’s normal football is starting to look more like the Sunderland performance as opposed to the Luton one.

It's still early days obviously but we do look very short going forward. We don't look like we have many goals in us.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
This perhaps didn't receive the credit it deserved at the time helm. I was certainly too annoyed for jokes.
Assuming the joke is intended, of course.
Either way, it's looking more and more like I had a good point. Unfortunately enough.

Will we ever score again?
No one looks remotely likely.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
2 shots on goal today.
QPR's first clean sheet of the season.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
With this formation and tactics it doesn't matter who we have up front they will not get the service, we could have Haaland up front and it would be the same it's just negative and boring I'm afraid.
Re: A Shot on Goal?
We beat Luton with fluid football which was fantastic on the eye , and the only players missing from the current squad on the night is O'Shea , vitinho and odobert so my question is why such a massive change of tactics when really we have only lost the attacking threat of odobert? Surely we have brought in adequate cover?

1 Shot on goal today.
At the current rate we will have 18 (eighteen) games without scoring this season.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
Unlikely to improve much either. We were short of strikers before the window shut and are operating without any now.
Re: A Shot on Goal?
The striker isn't the problem, it's everything else. If you don't get anybody near the striker, whether that's the wingers or midfielders, they become totally isolated and easy to mark out of the game. You could throw Haaland or Kane up front in this team and you'd be relying on individual moments of magic from them, as they'd get absolutely nothing off their team mates!

Re: A Shot on Goal?
We've got Foster, Hountondji and Jay who are centre forwards. Zian Flemming can play as an outright forward.
Players who aren't forwards are also allowed to shoot.
This doesn't look like a personnel issue, it looks like a tactical issue.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
He has to start with a 9 and a 10. I don't know how many people have said it, loads, but we do not need 3 central midfielders in this league.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
Foster won't play enough to make a difference, Jay is way past his use by date and Hountondji only seems to get a chance when all other options are exhausted.
He started really well today but was then frozen out very quickly, maybe because he disobeyed orders and tried 2 snapshots. Nobody else shoots from anywhere as it seems more fashionable to keep passing until possession is lost.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
That's the exact basis on which this thread was started.
The worrying thing is that it appears to be a deliberate tactical choice.
It's extremely worrying, especially as we have the second most expensive squad in the league.

If it wasn't on target it wasn't a shot on goal, so they must have seen something none of us did and a shot must have been on target.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:05 pmShot on goal wasn't on target though. I could have played in goal for Millwall today and we still wouldn't have scored.

Perfectly good post in August that the poster got chastised for. Some people can spot the warning signs early some can’t.

4 shots on target tonight. An improvement of sorts but only one clear cut chance to speak of.
8 goals in 14 games.

I think our fans in the Cricket Field Stand and the Jimmy Mac stand could do their bit on Sunday to help the players out a little

Plenty of posts on here that 5 of the scorers from those first two games had been sold to clear down the debt and that our performances going forwards would suffer as a result.blatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 6:31 amPerfectly good post in August that the poster got chastised for. Re: A Shot on Goal?
Burnley’s gross financial debt further increased by £36m from £66m to £102m comprising £70m bank loans, £31m factored debts.
That was how Burnley’s financial position was being reported in April 2024.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
Across this round of 12 midweek matches a total of just 20 goals scored, 5 matches ending 1-0 and 2 matches ending goalless.
Where have all the clinical finishers gone?

Re: A Shot on Goal?
Which was the clear chance? Flemming's header early on, Sarmiento's 1-on-1, Antony's goal, or Pires hitting the post?

Re: A Shot on Goal?
This is probably the only ever "negative" thread I've started on a football theme.
We've had plenty of positive results and performances since then but our inability to create chances and our lack of goals is holding us back.

Re: A Shot on Goal?
Have to agree with Rowls. For all the backslapping over our defensive record (which is quite extraordinary) our inability to score goals is seriously hampering us and is probably going to be the reason we're still a Championship side next season.
