I can't rate because I watched via Sky. But his performance was astonishingly poor, even if you ignore the disallowed goal (which you can't).
Re: RATE THE REF - Tom Nield v West Bromwich Albion
Can't rate but the "goal" apart, Roberts' booking was farcical. Whilst Roberts is no angel and often deserves his booking last night was ridiculous.
Re: RATE THE REF - Tom Nield v West Bromwich Albion
The name Tom Nield will be etched on to all of our minds for the next few seasons.
Probably the worst referee we’ve had in recent times. Quite the achievement.

Watched and repeated the goal decision. Cannot believe that could be ruled out in any way.
Horrendous decision.
Sack him.

I watched in a pub without commentary - can anyone shed light on what happened when Roberts went up for a header and was clearly fouled only for the referee to restart play with a drop ball on the halfway line? I was totally baffled but maybe missed something?

No. As per most of his decisions!Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:21 pmI watched in a pub without commentary - can anyone shed light on what happened when Roberts went up for a header and was clearly fouled only for the referee to restart play with a drop ball on the halfway line? I'd love to see an explanation on Refwatch.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:21 pmI watched in a pub without commentary - can anyone shed light on what happened when Roberts went up for a header and was clearly fouled only for the referee to restart play with a drop ball on the halfway line? Not one person in the ground knew what was going on there. Including Mr Nield.

Re: RATE THE REF - Tom Nield v West Bromwich Albion
I have to say it’s been a while since I have seen such a awful referee performance! I mean, it was like he was using Netball rules whenever we made any sort of challenge/contact whatsoever!?
I do wonder if his complete balls up in his last game was affecting his judgement, but Christ, he might as well have been wearing a West Brom shirt! As for the disallowed goal, I think Parker’s face summed it up perfectly when the 4th official obviously tried to explain the reason for the decision! Awful ref, never want to see him again!

When it came to 'shake hands time' Scott kept his hands in his pockets.

Far too many referees in these times referee with their ears instead of their eyes. This fella used neither and refereed with an agenda. Truly appalling display.

BTW. He screwed PNE then he screwed Burnley and he’s from Yarkshur. Has he got relatives that died in the War of the Roses?

Re: RATE THE REF - Tom Nield v West Bromwich Albion
He was similar to the ref in the Preston home game and a new growing trend of it must be a free kick when a player hits the deck regardless of if there has been an actual foul.
Forgot about the Roberts header where he gave a drop ball he just made that up as he was going along.

I was just the same, in a pub with commentary from one of the European games. As soon as Maja jumped into Roberts, very late, I said that’s another booking, he’s off. I couldn’t believe it when he then restarted with a drop ball. Finding out the ref has never issued a red card it now becomes a bit clearer. He bottled it.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:21 pmI watched in a pub without commentary - can anyone shed light on what happened when Roberts went up for a header and was clearly fouled only for the referee to restart play with a drop ball on the halfway line? I didn’t know Maja already had a yellow. Very odd.Claretincraven wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 9:41 amI was just the same, in a pub with commentary from one of the European games. Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:03 amI note that Nield has never issued a red card in his entire league career and his yellow count is much lower than many. Not sure what that says about him but his ability to spot a foul from nothing is clearly obvious.
His yellow card count isn’t low - he’s averaging almost 5 per game this season. And 18 reds since he became a FL referee.Claretincraven wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 9:41 amI was just the same, in a pub with commentary from one of the European games. Will Finnie's decision to deny stoke a penalty today is laughable .

Just taken a look at it. It’s beyond laughable. But not seeing something is one thing, seeing something that isn’t there to be seen as was the case with our disallowed goal is something else.expoultryboy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:58 pmWill Finnie's decision to deny stoke a penalty today is laughable .

I REALLY hope he referees a home game for us. I’ll spend ninety plus minutes letting him know how **** he is.
