We didn't need urgency, I know people get frustrated when Trafford is slow at getting it out but it's deliberate. You wait for the opposition to move in on your keeper, then play the ball, creates space behind.BleedingClaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 7:29 pmCJER was the only player that played balls with urgency and speed besides maybe Laurent when he came on

Re: Burnley v Swansea MATCH Thread
Liked their two full-backs and would take them over ours and I have always liked Grimes who drops back between the CB in the build-up and caused our press massive issues which dragged Luca central and they had an outball into Key the right back who has improved massively since his Exeter days both in terms of size and quality.
For us thought we did ok but lacked a CF as Flemmig looks laboured and slow and does not have the instincts to make runs he simply stays back post-hoping. We lack movement in midfield and the ability for our midfield 2 Cullen and Brownhill to play in tight areas.
We simply do not move teams around enough it is either too slow or not incisive enough to play through but at least we are looking to have a bit of a Plan B by playing round a touch and although we have been getting it on wide areas now see seem to have a bit more fluidity looking to not just play through but put balls in too.

That may be the theory, but I saw no sign of it working in practice.

I don't doubt that it's a good tactic if your ambition is to control the ball in your own half. Where I think it doesn't work is that it doesn't lead to extra space for the attack on the opposition goal. What it leads to is the defenders passing it among themselves while the forwards retreat to their positions.

Yup. And I thought we were the better team vs WBA and should have won and thought we were the better team yesterday and deserved the win.

Probably edged the win yesterday in terms of deserving it but we are dire from open play and for me it all comes down to how we attack the box which seems very rigidly coached into the team by Parker.
We just don't get numbers in the box at any time other than from set pieces or directly after them (ie. they fail to clear and we have possession outside the area straight after).
From open play there is almost always only 2 players attacking the centre of the box and no one attacking the back post. It's over cautious. Many ask why the wingers don't attack the byline and cut it back; because there's no one to cut it back to. They cut inside because it's the only real option.
