Knowing we were courting RVN and he is shop windowing himself at the moment, if you were AP and had a choice which would you do ? Stick with SP or twist with RVN. Answer SP or RVN.
Me personally, SP. He needs time to prove his game actually has an attacking potential.

I just can’t see Parker being a long term option for us. If he does get us promoted, I dread to think how we’d be under him in prem.

What’s the point In worrying about long term and if we get promoted, all we need to worry about right now is still being in with a shout of automatics when the Jan window openscolne-claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:05 pmI just can’t see Parker being a long term option for us. RVN as an assistant - maybe.
Re: Vote: SP V RVN
The question is, would those players who wanted to leave when Kompany left have stayed if RVN had been appointed?

SP. We have conceded 6 in 15 games. He’s got that end sorted. He was dealt a bad hand at the sharp end. Give him a chance before canning him.

Although not conceding and playing like that is going to make for one hell of a boring season. I feel the pressure is mounting.
A lot for me depends on who/which positions he wants to sign in January which we’ll never know until then. I’d feel better about it all if I felt he knew where the problems were.

I worry about long term because I want to see us settled again. Have a manager that stays with us for a while. I can’t see that at all with Parker. If we go up, I suspect he doesn’t last long. If we fail to go up, I can see them getting shut.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 10:33 pmWhat’s the point In worrying about long term and if we get promoted, all we need to worry about right now is still being in with a shout of automatics when the Jan window opens

Didn’t make it in to our top 5 was what I was told, had a bad interview.

You know what? I wouldn't buy another season ticket under this ownership, or any other ownership for that matter, if they were bonkers enough to sack a manager when the club was 4th in the table, and I'm not only talking about the Championship either. I'd do the same if we were in L1 or L2.
Also, can you imagining trying to recruit a new manager after such an event? Only chancers and low-grade has-beens would apply. Anyone with an ounce of ambition and dignity wouldn't touch us with a shitty stick.

Where was that?
May have missed something, but I was told he was rejected pretty early after a bad interview well before Man United came in for him as a coach. Pretty sure it’s him the panel are saying a unanimous ‘no’ to in MtB2.

Re: Vote: SP V RVN
I remember my daughter playing Championship manager in my PC when she was a girl. I remember having problems with my PC and it was due to her switching the PC off at the main plug without correct shut down. She evidently did this if her team lost a game and she simply loaded up her previously saved game before the defeat. The people calling for SP to go when he has no strike force and a newly formed young team remind me of the above example!
I think too many people think a real life situation can be corrected by firing the manager after 14 games and no thoughts about the financial and personal implications of doing so!

Championship/Football manager does spring to mind though whenever people think players scoring in the U21s team automatically means they'll be the leading scorer in the Championship.

You can’t have a manager that will get us promoted, keep us up AND stay a while unless it’s someone like Parker (I.e. a manager that won’t attract attention even if successful). Christ, our last manager was awful in the Premier League and still managed to walk into one of the top jobs in Europe because of his name.colne-claret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 7:49 amI worry about long term because I want to see us settled again. Re: Vote: SP V RVN
Setting aside sackng our managager when in fourth after a third of the season, I found the RVN enthusiasm quite bizarre.
Maybe he'll end up being a great manager but so far all he's done is have an average season at PSV, fall out with everyone and then quit just beofre their final match of the season (when they needed a win to get in the champions league).

SP, we have no fit young striker, so as it goes at the moment not doing to bad a job.
Re: Vote: SP V RVN
Well one was the equivalent of the charity shield, and they'd won the same the season before. They also got their lowest points total for years, the season after they won the league with a record number of points.

so two trophies then
BTW I'm not suggesting we do or don't go for him
Re: Vote: SP V RVN
Personally I've never really counted stuff like the charity shield but I guess technically true. PSV have won it something like 50% of the time though so winning it is still fairly average for them. PSV are expected to be challenging for the title each year.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:43 pmso two trophies then

Re: Vote: SP V RVN
For me it boils down to who can get us playing the football the board and fans want, and progress us? RVN fits more in line with Pace, and there isn’t any such thing as the right timing in football. I remember when Southampton potted their manager to hire pochettino, Bournemouth did similar and got their current manager in, Leicester did likewise and got ranieri in. I’d hire RVN.

Re: Vote: SP V RVN
A definite SP to stay for me. If anyone needs a reality check then just look down the table and look at Luton. THey got more points than us in the PL, but relegated. They have in my opinion a half decent manager in Rob Edwards, but like us sold or moved on some of their best players. Two key stats for Luton-8 defeats and 26 goals conceded, against ours of 2 defeats and 6 goals conceded. WE just need to get Foster back, along with Ramsey and Tresor , then make one or two shrewd striker signings early January

Re: Vote: SP V RVN
The general consensus on here seems to be that RVN turned us down a few months ago. I was told a very different story, that he interviewed badly, wanted a very different direction to Pace, and didn’t even make our shortlist.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:23 amFor me it boils down to who can get us playing the football the board and fans want, and progress us? Whichever version of events is true, I can’t see why we’d either want to go for someone who turned us down a few months ago, or didn’t make the shortlist. Even if he were prepared to speak to us again, that recent history is hardly an ideal starting point for a prosperous relationship with the club. It would just all feel very wrong to me.
I agree with you that his footballing style and profile seem a much better match for Pace, although he comes with a chequered history of falling out with clubs. Still, I’m massively shocked that we didn’t go for him - having an ex United legend follow a City legend would’ve been a real profile-builder for the club and he apparently plays decent stuff, but I can’t help but think it’d be another very temporary appointment. Plus, from what I’ve heard the players all like Parker so it’d be destabilising.
I’m as frustrated as anyone with our attacking performances this year. Even whilst losing every game last season I felt we played some good stuff and looked threatening, which I enjoyed watching, but we must give Parker time to sort that out and the right players in Jan. If he can’t deliver the goods then, it’s time to consider it. I don’t think there’s a chance he’ll go now though and would feel he’d been harshly treated if he did.
