I can't help but feel that laughing will come back and bite me on the arse. I do feel a level of trust in Pace but if he was to dissappear we could be left in a real mess

Let's not turn this into an anti Pace thread, let's please just revel in the misery of that bunch of window lickers down the road. The days when they wound other fans up by their uncle Jack gloating and their unlimited wealth and how they would dominate football for decades is now but a hilarious joke.

But the problem they have is an owner who wants to put money in, and can't. Nothing to do with our problem, which is an owner who wants to take out every penny he can.

What would suit our interests is if they collapsed so much that youngsters from, say, Rishton, choose to follow Burnley instead in the decade to come. Similarly young academy scholars. It’s competitive out there and bad for them is often good for us. So they can go bust for me

Re: Well that brought a smile…
Is this article in the same publication that was suggesting yesterday that we were preparing to pot Parker for RVN?
There's obviously an element of truth in this, but when The Sun uses a term like "major doubt" it's usually headline grabbing but with a strong smell of hyperbole

What does major doubts refer to? Not being able to compete at a level they wish or ceasing to exist?
Football is better with rivalry. Do I want them to cease to go into oblivion? No. Do i want them to struggle and be in our shadow forever more? Yes.

Re: Well that brought a smile…
Here’s the article for those willing to read the Sun:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/31721671 ... kburn/amp/
For those not willing, it’s related to a material uncertainty statement in their accounts. Nothing new or any real surprise.
From what I read elsewhere, the Venky’s can transfer money to Rovers but have to match each transfer with a personal guarantee. There is a case filed in court to get this restriction overturned but each time it gets on the court list the courts don’t have time to hear the case and reschedule it for a later date. Sounds a bit as though the authorities know they’re on shaky ground or are buying time, if I’m honest. That’s how I’d view it if it were us, anyway.
I think the question is how much they can keep personally guaranteeing.

Absolutely my views. Football without rivalry would be awful. I want them to survive, just not prosperArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 9:32 amWhat does major doubts refer to? Not being able to compete at a level they wish or ceasing to exist?

Re: Well that brought a smile…
Surely that is the case for every Chairman at every club? In my time we have had Bob Lord, John Jackson, Frank Teasdaleout, Barry Kilby, John B and Mike Garlick before Alan Pace. All of them have left apart from Pace, who will at some point follow suit.

One went because he knew his life was coming to an end, one was forced out, one stood down from the chair because he was going the same way as the first and one was pushed out of the chair by the next full chairman.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 10:18 amSurely that is the case for every Chairman at every club? One thing about all of them though, with one possible exception, was them all being Clarets.

Re: Well that brought a smile…
I reckon it's pretty much wishful thinking to imagine that the Venkys are going to stop funding them, unless something completely unexpected happens.
They have incredibly deep pockets and they'll no doubt find a way to keep ploughing dosh into them.
Don't particularly want them to go bust, but if it happens, I'll handle it.

Re: Well that brought a smile…
If that lot go... we'll miss the derbies which has always been our most important local fixture...plus the banter.

I would not wish oblivion on any football club, least of all our neighbours. All our songs would be redundant!

If I'd to put my shirt on which of us is most likely to go belly up in the coming years then sadly it'd be us.
We're way more dependant on Prem money.

If the Venkys pull the plug and bstards go into administration someone will buy them as per Bolton, they'll struggle for a good few years and eventually get to their natural level which I would suggest is Blackpool/ Oldham.

Not sure it's about sympathy. You'd be missing out on the derbies, the gloating, the Ashley Barnes type goals, the winning, the looking down at them, the banter.... goes on. Football needs rivalries like this. Its what makes up the game we love.IPAclaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 12:42 pmthey can disappear as far as I'm concerned

If this happens, what will the telegraph write about !!!

I don’t want to see any football club disappear even Rovers. Footballs in enough of a decline without Clubs folding.

Re: Well that brought a smile…
Plenty of this on the annual accounts thread. Basically, he has taken £125m out of the club primarily to pay his own personal debts, he has taken about £2m per year in directors' fees, and he has forced the club to pay about £10m a year interest to service the loans which we had to take out to pay off his own debts.
It's all in the accounts at Companies House, so there is no need to be careful about libel.

Has always been thus. Just like Radio Blackburn, which changed in name only to Radio Lancashire.
