Largest online company in the World ? (Amazon) Joke.

Post by BurnleyMickSouth » Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:46 am

Good morning fellow Clarets,

You will read shortley the subject of my Headline, four weeks ago on the 8th of Oct, i decided to treat myself to a refurbished 50 inch Hisence smart tv, paid £261 with free delivery, i recieved tv the next day, after setting it up it looked in very good condition for a refurb, i turned it on and thats when my problem began on both sides of the tv it was very very bright with lines running down both sides, after doing the settings no improvement at all, so after looking up on Google and YouTube i found out that the LED particles that make up the screen picture had in fact done something that i had never heard of before it was called "backlight bleeding" so i decided to repackage the tv and return it by UPS to Amazon, i was told it would be picked up on the monday 14th of Oct....no show from UPS, or the next day as well, finally picked up on the wednesday after 2 wasted days unable to go out, waiting for it to be picked up, so while waiting for a return of my money i splashed out on a brand new 50 inch QLED Hisence top of the range costing £400, in Currys the tv is almost £700, again it was delivered the next day, set it up and am happy with it, not 10 out of 10 but it will do, for a year or three, to cut to the chase im still waiting for my £261 for the refurb tv, iv rang them 3 times and all i get is its being processed she said the terms and conditions are that i might have to wait 30 days to get a refund those 30 days are up today Sat16th Nov, for a company as big as Amazon the refund should happen between 7 to 14 days not 30, needless to say i WONT be buying off Amazon anytime soon, shocking company, comments plz, thanks.

It took more than 2 months to refund me over £1k for a stolen iPhone 14 Pro - the driver delivered the “package” but the package did not contain an iPhone. They tried to accuse me of stealing it too. I cancelled my Prime as soon as I had my money returned. Never using Amazon again

I am always seeing amazon packages just lying about outside people's houses waiting to be pilfered.

I worked as a driver in between jobs for a bit. If anyone knew the truth, they wouldn’t use them.

As for leaving packages. People wouldn’t complain if they knew the truth.

Drivers aren’t employed by amazon. They “work” for sub contractors as “self employed”. They don’t have a leg to stand on.

I buy a fair amount from Amazon, I find they often just leave stuff outside my door. Sometimes they ring my bell, sometimes not. Their communication post delivery always says "handed to householder" or some such but it's not often at all I'm actually handed one. It's got worse in the past year, I guess there's more and more time pressure on the delivery people.

They choose that option (household member) so they don’t get a fail on their scorecard.

For instance, household member is always available to use plus the customers safe place option eg Shed.

If the shed is in a bolted back garden and isn’t accessible they’ll use another place eg behind the bin. If they then choose behind the bin on their device it’s a “fail” as they have gone against the customers safe option. So household member will be used and a note left.

98% is needed on the scorecard. So basically 6 fails per day out of 300.

Coming up to that time of year when people are regularly coming home to brown packages adjacent to their front door. Not enough hours in the day for Amazon drivers to be trying to take parcels round the back to the shed or bin. Drive by thieves will have a field day.

Our local Amazon driver is OK. The two-hat who delivers for Evri on the other hand is shocking. He makes no attempt to deliver the parcel, he just puts the parcel on the doorstep, rings the bell and ***** off. I usually answer the door as he's getting back into his van.

Often get the message 'delivery attempted' from Evri, but I've got security cameras and I know they haven't been near.

They have to be the worst by some distance.

I don't really like how Amazon operate but that's just a self-indulgent, first world virtue-signal from me, because I use them all the time as they're so damn convenient. Even the drivers are spot on 95% of the time round here.

To be fair to Evri, here in Worsthorne the last 2 drivers have been great. Amazon on the other hand are very hit & miss. Only the other week I had a parcel left on my window sill without a note pushed through the door. If it hadn't have been for my ring doorbell then I wouldn't have known if it had been stolen...

No, no, no!

Yodel make Evri look like the most professional delivery company in the world!

I use Amazon a lot too ... never (touch wood) had a problem. I occasionally have stuff delivered to our local pick up Locker in Hellifield (at the station) if am not sure if I will be in.

Hermes rebranded and changed their name to Evri because of their shocking reputation.

The backlight bleeding is actually an easy fix. My elderly neighbour broke his ankle and was stuck in England for 3 months. When he returned his tv had dried out and the led covers had dropped off leaving him with white light spots scattered around his screen.
Youtubed it and fixed it, just a drop of glue on each of the covers. The most surprising thing was how many layers had to come off to get to the job.

Thanks for all your inputs, however my gripe is NOT with the drivers but how can a massive company like AMAZON take 30 bloody days to issue you with a refund when the tv was sent back over 4 weeks ago ? iv just looked at the reply from AMAZON regarding my refund and now told it will be back in my account on the 22nd Nov thats now 5 bloody weeks its a scandal, any more comments, thanks for reading UTC.

Not Amazon, but I've had Evri deliveries recently and even though I've been in, they've just been left outside with no bell ringing or door knocking.

It might be worth contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau to see if Amazon are allowed to do this.

I'm convinced some big companies have a policy of delaying refunds/ payments etc. because the total amount of money from all customers is large and can effect interest payments they make.

The effect was slightly marred because the first ad that came up was the sunglasses with built-in voice operated video recorder! (Not sure that was one of the vintage ones!) :D

Mick, in this instance it might not be down to Amazon but the company that you purchased the TV from. Amazon, in many instances, are just a vehicle for purchasing, we have had a similar experience to you.

Write to Anna Tim's the Guardians consumer columnist. She covers a multitude of similar cases to yours. Other papers will have similar 'watchdogs'.
You might See Amazon respond a bit faster.

Last Christmas I nearly bought a new iPhone from Amazon because it was £20.00 cheaper than elsewhere, then I had second thoughts when I read about people having empty boxes delivered to their door. I thought it was better to use an actual store for the sake of twenty notes on a high-ish value item.

Just to add, I wouldn't buy anything second hand electrical off Amazon or ebay, I'd need to see it first.
