I remember Alex Elder hammering the ball past Gordon Banks from way out.
However, the comment about loaning out another striker is puzzling.Obafemi may not be everyone's choice but imo it was shortsighted to loan him out given Fosters unpredictable fitness
.
I agree with you there. We've needed a striker on the pitch just to hold the formation up. Obefami could have done this for us

Never understood why when a corner comes in our forwards are up and around the keeper, in other words they have to jump from almost a standing position. When you have some height with Esteve, Hountondji, Lauren, why aren’t we trying some of them to go further back and come running in to meet the cross, more spring in their jump and more confusion for the defenders.

Was this Leicester 5 Burnley 1? If so, Elder's thunderbolt was very late on at 5-0. It was on Match of the Day. I was very young but remember it well.

We said exactly the same - it was refreshing that someone was willing to pull the trigger and he had a couple of good strikes (another one was travelling and looked to be on target but got blocked by their defender).

I thought he had a decent little cameo.

Vince Overson scored with one of the hardest shots I’ve seen at the Turf v Wimbledon in 1981. Somehow we’d just gone 1-2 down to a deflected Dave Clement free kick. We kicked off and Overson just whacked it from what seemed like 40 yds. It went like an arrow past Dave Beasant. That season he scored with a header v Exeter from the edge of the box which is about the hardest headed goal I’ve seen

I remember that well, a true shot in anger :-)

Kevin Young's goal in the same season against Chesterfield that won the Champoinship was also some hit.

Kevin Young could definitely hit a ball.

Kevin and Vince also gave up their spare time to coach the Junior Clarets in the barn on Wednesday nights when they were just breaking through at 18-19 years old.

Special times for young Claret fans who were all in awe watching Youngy smash the ball at the painted goal posts on the red brick wall.

Possibly the best long range goal I've seen by a Burnley player was the Brain O'Neil cracker in the 1-0 home win over Man Utd. It fairly flew past Stepney in goal. He repeated the long range goal against Stoke at their old Victoria Ground with none other than Gordon Banks in goal.
