This is my club, this is my town
I met love down on Brunshaw Road
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
I kissed my girl by the factory wall
This is my club, this is my town
...and repeat

Actually written in 1949 by Ewan MacColl about Salford. Made famous by The Dubliners.

A great song but probably not well known amongst our younger supporters. Sung by FC United of Manchester apparently.

It would but sadly you're too late, Manure claimed it long ago and have sung it numerous times.

Re: This is my club, this is my town
FC United used to sing this years ago. I don't know whether they still do or not. Although it would be a great song for us or any other Northern mill town for that matter it was definitely written about Salford by Ewan Mac Coll.
On a side note I IMO the Pogues version of this song is 1 of those rare occasions where the cover is better than the original.

We are Burnley, WE'RE BURNLEY FC.

Re: This is my club, this is my town
P.S.
The 3rd verse, as its missing
We are founders of the Football League
We are Burnley, WE'RE BURNLEY FC
We're still here after all these years
Burnley's my team, Burnley's my town.
It was one of the regulars who posted it, stand up and take a bow.

Agreed, and they do indeed still sing this. Off there on Boxing Day with a group of mates for our annual non-league Christmas do!blatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 10:20 amFc United songs are brilliant. Put us to shame really.

I’ve played against them loads of times . Twice at gig lane, one game they had 5500 on (the only time I’ve beaten them too) . The other game was at accy Stanley’s ground 3-1 loss but managed to bag.Cheshireclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:16 amAgreed, and they do indeed still sing this. What was it like playing in front of such a big crowd when compared to what you were used to?blatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 1:26 pmI’ve played against them loads of times . Would love us to have that song.
Really wanted an Allez Allez Allez one and have that now (in 1987), if we had this I’d be over the moon!

I’d absolutely love to hear the whole of Turf Moor singing “we are Burnley, BURNLEY FC”…
Actually thought it was you that wrote it Colburn…

Brilliant tbh. I loved it. Was hard to hear orders and instructions off the gaffer and team mates. There’s a coupe of videos on YouTube of the game. The ‘home game’ at Accrington was a penalty I scored and it one of their fans pulled a moony as I was running up behind the goals hahaha

Agree about the Pogues and it being perfect for us.Anonymous Claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 10:06 amFC United used to sing this years ago. I don't know whether they still do or not. I think most songs are copied to some extent. We have a few unique ones but of the 10+ songs we sung yesterday I’d say only a couple are unique to us and it’s not like a lot of fans will know FC United founded it.
This is the best song never to be sung at Turf Moor in my opinion

Re: This is my club, this is my town
Most are probably started by the bigger clubs, then adapted by other clubs as you say.
As long as I can remember since the mid-late 70's we have always sung No Nay Never but I have always wondered if we started singing our version of The Wild Rover or whether that shower down the M65 started singing their version before us?
