Can anyone explain to me why we fail to stick someone on the back post for our attacking corners? Just seen that Bournemouth goal vs Spurs and then of course Arsenal have perfected the back post corner. Surely, we’ve got a player that can punt it that far from the corner. We know Brownhill can! So why don’t we?

Funny! I do recall Zaroury though sticking one in at the back post so we have used that tactic under Kompany.

Being dangerous from set pieces (corners and free kicks) seems to go in cycles. Down the years we've had spells where we're really good and productive and spells where we're utterly hopeless (generally speaking). It needs two things. One or more players who are excellent at delivering a dead ball and a small clutch of players, often defenders actually, who have an eye for getting a yard of space, anticipating the ball and who can score a goal. Tarks, Mee, Keane, O'shea etc all posed a genuine threat at set pieces, especially with JBG (for example) delivering great crosses. Currently, we're in something of a trough and extremely poor both with delivery and in having players who can convert.

We had a,good spell of back post corners with Westy and Dwight and again with Annas and we actually scored a few goals too. There was a spell when I think we expected to score.

That was preceeded by a time when we did nothing at all and when you look at most Clubs in general, the corners are really poor.

We have returned to that period of hitting the first defender time after time.

Arsenal have brought back the near post corner.

Under Bond, Reeves etc, we were masters at it.

We've scored one goal from a corner this season, we promptly sold the culprit.

Such are the state of our corners of late, I’ve taken to celebrating the few occasions that we manage to beat the first man.

If I were Scott, I’d be telling the set piece bloke to stay on his arse when we are presented with a dead ball opportunity.

The best back post corner we’ve ever played was against Everton at the Jimmy Mac end. Cork stood behind Pickaxe and when the ball sailed over their heads Wood was at the post to head it in. Cork stopped Pickaxe from back pedalling but never fouled him. Genius.
