Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
I would defy a professional footballer to land a ball exactly on the spot that looks the size of a football and from half the length of the pitch.
The red/claret circle seems a little bit pointless.

It certainly looks like the chances of this happening are very minimal.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 7:11 pmI would defy a professional footballer to land a ball exactly on the spot that looks the size of a football and from half the length of the pitch.

Bbbbbbooooooommmmmm!!!!
My issue was not with the outcome, more to do with the fact that the first ball wasn’t removed, making it pointless the other three trying. It was impossible for them to win!!

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
They could have used the first ball as a buffer.
The game is comical though, it hasn’t been clearly explained to the fans so most obviously assumed the red target was the bullseye, when in fact there is a smaller white bullseye within it which I doubt anyone will land in from 45 yards.
A great bit of half time entertainment today though and Russell Ball is turning into quite the panto villain. Looking forward to see how this story develops.
Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Hence why they can add £500 a game...it's almost impossible, apart from them who don't know the rules and thought today's was a winnerRosehill Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 7:15 pmIt certainly looks like the chances of this happening are very minimal.

I disagree, another participant in the game could have hit the crossbar at the other end of the pitch, and the ball could have bounced back and rolled, stopping perfectly on the centre spot.

Perhaps you have to land the ball on one of the little white dots in between the word ‘WIN’.Rosehill Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 7:41 pmTo confuse matters though, the tarpaulin seems to contradict the written rules:

An absolute scam that he didn’t win that £2k. Bang in the centre and they con him out of his winnings.

It says win 4 times on their diagram... If they meant the centre white spot it should say Jackpot on it... Or maybe 1 WIN in the middle. Absolute cop out

I thought it was odd they were even measuring the distance of other 3 balls when it was obvious the first had won but you could tell with the discussion before the announcement that something was up

Why on earth were they measuring the distances between the balls rather than from each ball to the centre.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 8:52 pmI thought it was odd they were even measuring the distance of other 3 balls when it was obvious the first had won but you could tell with the discussion before the announcement that something was up

What is Spot On is as wilks_BFC says, another Russell Balls up.

The rules are on the official site

Rules also say “With five participants selected from different stands at each match” but there’s only once has 5 taken part and that was when they brought the lad back after yet another “Balls-up” so they aren’t adverse to bending their own rules

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
That’s what I thought but the diagram also clearly suggests that red circle wins…regardless..that first ball wasn’t measured until the fourth kick was on the way and it should have been moved: it was quite literally impossible to roll any of the the next three balls onto the spot because a yellow ball was completely blocking the target.
It’s been extremely poorly run for such a ridiculously simple concept.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
I barely pay any attention to half time stuff but this thing was beyond dumb. That Ball fella was absolutely chuffed to be explaining to the lad that despite him, the subs and the crowd believing he’d won the jackpot, he hadn’t. Proper traffic warden vibes.
The PA should have silenced the crowd by shouting “the rules are on the website!”
I mean, read the room, lads. There’s a big red circle there on the floor with WIN written on it and that’s where his ball stopped. Multimillion pound business and they’re shirking on a couple of grand that they look worse not giving the lad rather than giving.
If the aim of the game is to hit the centre spot, why put a big cover over it?
Couldn’t be more tinpot if they’re tried.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Outrageous that they didn't give him the win. You can't even tell from where we sit that there is a white circle within the red.
However (and someone may have mentioned this) it seems pretty likely to me that measuring all four balls is necessary to comply with the rules regarding holding competitions for cash prizes. Yes it's obvious but if they could be run by eyeball there's no way to demonstrate it's been done fairly.

Talking of measuring, let’s not forget the winner from week one. He had his ball measured at about 1m outside the back of the centre circle, despite it having been stopped by a young helper…it would have probably ended up inside the opposite penalty area!!!

An absolute swizz. If we played that game at every half time for eternity the mascots that came out with the players wouldn't see it won if it had to land directly on the centre spot. Going off the previous attempts we've seen it's an achievement to get it into the red "win" zone.
As an aside are some posters of the belief that the announcer is Russell Ball?

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Not really sure what the issue is. There would have been complaints if they had paid out based on where it landed and the rules. They’d be making a rod for their own back in the future, surely?
The last home match people on here were saying the winner was wrong. The sheet was incorrectly placed, so without those measurements it was difficult to say one way or the other.
As for them not moving the ‘winning’ ball, has nobody ever seen bowls/curling?

No I don’t he was right in front of me laughing he is there every half time. The announcer quickly realised he needed to keep a straight face when he walked in front of the Jimmy Mc. Russell went to the left. So yes I know who he is.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
The lad won. “Oh but the rules are on the website”. Don’t talk wet. The game is simple - kick the ball and hope it stops on the red target circle. Bloody things actually got “win” printed innit four times!!! Lad kicked it, and that’s where the ball stopped. He should’ve got the prize. The game was run by a “professional” football club, not a fairground scallywag.
An absolute cop out by my tin pot club.
I’m ashamed of the club today, bloody disgraceful that.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
i am in the 'pay the lad the money' camp.
its not as though the club is paying it out it will be the sponsors, and if it goes up by £500 each game then if they had paid it out this week it would have been back down to £500 for the next game instead i suspect it will £2500 now so financially it makes no difference but would have been good PR and would have shown it can be done - opportunity missed if you ask me
will be interesting to see what happens to the money if no one wins it for the rest of the season , will it roll over to next season ?? if we dont have any cup games and just play the regular season then the prize would stand at £7,500 ( 2k as of the last game and another 11 home games to the end of the season 5.5k)
