Team for Reading

Post by burnley007 » Sun Jan 05, 2025 11:30 am

I know it's early, but there are so many options for Saturday.
Barnes?
Egan and Worrall start?
Sonne?
Tresor? 😜
Massengo?
Hountondji?
Lyle?
Hladky?

New signings?

......Hladky/Green

Sonne...Ekdal...Delcroix..Dodgson
.........Massengo..Laurent.............
Koleosho...Sarmiento...Foster....
.............Barnes/Jay Rod

The big problem which I've been saying for a while is we have absolutely zero real backup for Cullen. I think it's absolute madness not to sign a backup for him this window. Think how City fall apart without Rhodri, I think we would be in a similar position.

For me it needs to be a mix. So that would be playing one of Egan-Riley/Esteve and Cullen/Brownhill.

Egan and Worrall will play centre halves. Can’t see Ekdal or Delacroix being burnley players come February so no point in playing them when we have other more involved players in the squad.

Yes forgot that'd count in the FA cup, just yellows don't count in the cup.
Massengo if fit then if not then McDermott

Massengo hasn’t even made the bench in recent weeks. I can’t see him playing.

Hoping that’s an injury but he’s been pictured in training so assume it means he will be sold, which is a real shame in my view as I always thought he looked good when he played… and he’s had a great attitude :(

Hladky

Sonne
Egan
Worrall
Pires

Anthony
Cullen
Laurent
Koleosho

Flemming

Foster

Shame Hannibal is suspended

Assume Massengo is injured - we look short of CM cover

Good opportunity to look at Flemming in the 10 role behind a striker

Barnes to get decent minutes from the bench

No point playing Ekdal, Delcroix and Hountondji - their absence Saturday's match day squad suggests they may be leaving during the window

Foster for last 30mins, whatever the score. He needs minutes.

Ps. I don’t care if we lose. We ain’t gonna win it so all we get is injuries, suspensions and tiredness.

Do Reading have any pacey forwards? They are in a lower division but if we put a central defence out such as Worrall Egan, we could be punished with the odd counter.

There are a lot of players that need a run out, and it would be great for the youngsters to gain the experience, but if we field a second XI, we'll be getting knocked out.
If we want to reach round 4, we need to make a strong spine, and few changes.
I would expect Foster and Hldaky to start. It would be nice to see Sonne. The rest need to come off the bench if and when we're safe.

I don’t see any value in playing a totally different 11. The idea should be to integrate new signings and bench players into the side so they are sharper when we need them in the league. I know the schedule has been busy. Big Gav might struggle with 4 games in 10 days for the Rose and Crown but our lot are professionals.

I agree with this. I'd like to see a mix, and not convinced with a Worrall Egan partnership either. I think I'd also prefer CJ to be in there + one other.
