Who told you that? It may be a contributing factor to why they didn't try harder to continue the status quo but it isn't the primary reason.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 6:45 pmI was told it was because for some games it required overnight stays - think this is the second season where he's done it from a studio in Preston. First time I realised was last season's PL game at Luton when Sky virtually missed our winning goal so he didn't see it either.
It is the second season though yeah.

Re: Phil Bird apologising about a fan's bad language
When I said ‘everyone swears’ I was perhaps overstating things slightly, I should have said ‘most’. And it is most. As for the guy in front of you he is out of order because I must admit I never swear in front of kids (even if they do know what it means). I never heard my dad swear (except as I have said for the odd bloody/bugger/damn) until I was in my twenties and he came from a hard family and was in the army.jos wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:27 amBut you stated that “everyone swears” and that simply isn’t true, perhaps you should have phrased it differently. Let’s face it anyone can swear, but I like many of my friends and family chose not to.
I never heard any of my grandparents or my parents swear either.
People have different values, where I sit at the back of the longside there’s generally only one guy who shouts abuse using bad language (which is a bit of a shame as a young lad sits in front of me, who perhaps should be in he family section)

Well put sir and I agree. We are all Clarets on here and I respect everyone’s point of view. Including yours. Happy new year to you and your family bud and I hope you have a good year.dsr wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:42 amThe first "like you" refers to the people you describe who swear all the time regardless of context. It doesn't refer to you personally.
The second "like you" does refer to you, and it refers specifically to the fact that you have stated that you don't expect people to be offended by swearing. I know that is so because you have said so. I know something about you because you have told me via this message board. I don't need to assume.
Isn't this all a bit pointless? I don't like swearing, you don't mind it, let's let it rest.

Possibly, but the footage is edited as the match goes on. The editors watch the match live, and then take any incidents to form a package of a certain length.
The producer will look at the games and decide which games are to be the full 8 minutes, then 6, 4, 3 and so forth, depending on number of goals, contentious incidents, status of the game (derby etc).
My mate was an editor on MOTD for many years, and he once did an interview on one of the Burnley podcasts a few years back to explain it.

No issue with hearing swearing and I agree I don’t believe a broadcaster should have to apologies for it. I must say though not everyone swears all the time, there are circumstances when I would but as a rule I rarely swear when I am out and about.houseboy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 11:43 amI find apologising for bad language a bit out dated. Everyone swears now, male, female, young and old. I remember the daft old days when guys used to threaten other blokes for ‘swearing in front of my wife’. The same wife who A: didn’t get a say in it and B: probably swore like a trooper when hubby wasn’t there. It’s just words.

The commentary on MOTD is clearly added post-edit. I thought this was obvious and common knowledge?ChrisG wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:07 pmPossibly, but the footage is edited as the match goes on. The editors watch the match live, and then take any incidents to form a package of a certain length.

Re: Phil Bird apologising about a fan's bad language
Anyway, Phil Bird is a Burnley legend in my book
. UTC and mind your language fellow Clarets...

Re: Phil Bird apologising about a fan's bad language
Correct.
The bit where they usually something along the lines of:
"We've just ticked past 75 minutes on the clock and Manchester United have conceded the most goals in the last 15 minutes of the games so far this season..."
before then cutting to a highlight of them conceding a goal to throw the game away in the last 15 minutes is usually a give away. It happens in the majority of their highlights.
Re: Phil Bird apologising about a fan's bad language
I wouldn’t know, during the Dyche years I got so incensed with the programme that I stopped watching it, must be over 6 or 7 years ago now. If I want to watch goals from a specific game I just use the Sky Sports App. I do watch the EFL highlights but don’t really listen to what is been said.
Was watching a PL game the other week, think it was for Australian TV and Maniche was in the studio, the lad who used to do the EFL programme when it was on BBC. Not seen him in years.

Yes, but that's because Man United usually do concede a goal to throw the game away.jtrbfc wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:24 pmCorrect.
