I've been watching her mug on the sports telly for nearly 30 years, become part of the furniture, comforting, like a lady Des. She's right enough and would be a steady host imo.

Some absolute dinosaurs who don't even know how to spell Lineker's name properly!
It is funny to see though

Ive no interest who it is, I only ever fast forwarded to the last 40 seconds, when we were on, and only if we had picked up points, which was rare.
No real interest in games we arent in these days.

There is no need for it to go to someone who used to play football. The job requires someone who is a good presenter and better value for money than the current incumbent. That’s the thing with over paying someone for years, they should be easy enough to replace with better quality. However, given it’s the BBC they’ll probably get even less value for money.

Anybody but Alex Scott, she is just an awful presenter who appears unable to speak English correctly (imo of course)

I’d be happy with Gabby Logan. Lineker will be a big miss but Logan is a top presenter.

It’s all about being a quality sports anchor , being an ex football pro is immaterial . Gabby’s a decent respected sports host and quite a bit better than most of the women and men rumoured to be in the running .
Ultimately I’d probs prefer a male presenter for men’s football ,l( as I’d defo prefer women for their footy ) but it’s hardly a big deal .

The most bizzare thing I find is people blindly sticking to their political ideology above common sense . Eg if a black lesbian ex player is the best woman for the job get her in , if she’s useless call her out,it doesn’t make you a “ fascist /racist “ As it stands most of the “ straight white males” are bloody hopeless .

If it is Gabby Logan I think she’ll be really good. She has a calm manner about her and is knowledgable. I know a lot if people are not keen on MOTD but I enjoy it, probably stems from my teenager years it was the main football must watch programme.

Even 30 years on, the theme tune at the beginning still reminds me of watching MOTD knowing I have my Sunday paperound in a few hours. The joy of the football coming up mixed with knowing I needed to be up early the following morning.

The issues some guys on here have with women is pretty sad.

Never accept what you don't want. Why should the man's game be messed up by women quotas and the women's game untouched by men?

Con trick!

The gender of the presenter for Match of the Day should not be the central focus in discussions surrounding the role. While representation and inclusivity are important in broadcasting, the primary consideration must be whether the individual possesses the skills and expertise necessary to excel in this iconic position. What truly matters is their ability to convey a deep understanding of football, including the nuances of how matches unfold and the strategic decisions that shape the game.

A successful presenter needs to be more than a host; they must serve as a bridge between the matches and the audience, bringing expert insights to life in an engaging and accessible manner. This role requires not only a strong knowledge of football but also the ability to guide meaningful and thought-provoking discussions with the expert panel. The presenter must ask incisive questions, challenge viewpoints when appropriate, and draw out analysis that enhances the viewer's understanding and appreciation of the sport.

Moreover, the presenter sets the tone for the program, balancing professionalism with a natural rapport that resonates with the audience. Match of the Day holds a special place in British culture, and its presenter plays a key role in maintaining the program's legacy while ensuring it evolves to meet the expectations of a modern audience. Whether breaking down a controversial refereeing decision or highlighting moments of brilliance from the week's matches, the presenter must combine authority with charisma to captivate viewers.

Ultimately, the debate about who should next present Match of the Day should centre on capability, expertise, and suitability for the demands of the role. The focus should be on finding an individual who embodies these qualities, ensuring the program continues to be a cornerstone of football coverage in the UK.

Anything else for me is superfluous, even if they do have nice t!ts.

These women - most of all Gabby Logan - have nothing to do with men's football!

Women's football, when I have stumbled across it, is dominated by women, who know their game.

Men's football is sacrificed and relegated to lowest common denominator, to meet some stat.

Anyone know any midget commentators? In with a great chance.

Occasionally I'll enhance the message by using ChatGPT to revise how I have written something, and this is an example of such. I wanted to it come across as a serious post with some deep and meaningful discussion points (all valid of course) but to then denigrate the post with the final sentence for comedy value :)

Still a woman trying to be clever about men's football. All she can do is ask some questions of the other pundits. Waste of a 1/3 of the point making from knowledge. That's why Jermaine Jenas was fave before downfall.

I don't like women taking over men's sport, whete we are used to 3 experts, one clever enough to ask the questions to set the tempo for the prog.

Whilst not disagreeing with the principle, I don't recall the WSL highlights programme being fronted by a man; Is that different in some way, or are there no competent male presenters who could be considered?

This is because any half arsed ex male footballer who wants to go into media can probably earn more in local lower division mens football than all but the best ex female players can earn covering women's football.

If the women's football media work paid the same as mens media work you'd see it dominated by men

As it is women have their own lower paid, lower profile roles and if their lucky the top women get to move in the big league with the men and get to take misogynistic abuse from dinasours like Ian Mc

People like the Premier League’s all time top goalscorer, and England’s fourth highest all time goalscorer. What do they know.

I don't really care who hosts the show but the pundits should be former or current Premier League players. Bringing in footballers who've never played that level of football relegates the discussion to the level of a fan podcast.

Personally I find the over analysis of games can get really dull but I'm more interested in the opinion of someone who's been there and done it.

But itsn't it the case that players who have played at that level won't be able to offer the best analysis because they don't usually make the best managers?

The majority of pundits on MOTD are good (imo) at analysing the game but I can’t think of any of them at the moment that would be good at actually hosting the show. Again only my opinion but as an ex-pro I think Lineker has been really good.

Think this will be an improvement. Chappers is a great broadcaster, Gabby is well respected and Kelly Cates is ace on Sky.
In my opinion “Chappers” has zero charisma. The other 2 are alright but Lineker has left big boots to fill. Ultimately though no one has ever replaced Des Lynam.

Absolutely disgusting. After what he did to John Lennon.

Agree - think all those 3 presenters are excellent and rotating them is no bad thing either.

Lineker was ok but his style and humour has been wearing thin now for at least a decade !!

Heard a couple of stories a number of years ago from friends who worked in sports and hospitality about GL which to be honest put me off him from the start a little. But he developed into a decent presenter and the MoTD has always been an institution for me even if it was a lot more relevant /unmissable back in the day when live football was not on every day and night.

Presenter is important but the content of the actual programme is what people tune in for - the fast forward facility was invented for a reason !

I don't really care who hosts the show but the pundits should be former or current Premier League players. Bringing in footballers who've never played that level of football relegates the discussion to the level of a fan podcast.
Can’t say I’ve paid too much attention but the pundits are usually ex prem lads aren’t they?

Shearer to continue as pundit if he can get a word in over Micah Richards’ shouting

It's a brilliant trio. Will be a really good blend.

Mostly but Alex Scott, Karen Carney, Fara Williams and Anita Asante have also appeared as pundits.
To me their input is about as valid as having Liam Robinson or Lee Howey. Far more knowledgeable about football than you or I no doubt but not familiar with playing at that level.

At the same time I wouldn't want to see Alan Shearer talking about League Two, I'd rather have someone like Keith Curle or John Coleman.
