The next nine games!

Post by Guller Bull » Sat Dec 14, 2024 9:35 am

From tomorrow till the end of Jan are going to tell us a lot about where we will finish. I know that's a bit of a cliche but some tough old fixtures in there! In some of them I would be happy for SP to be grinding out a 0-0 or sneaking a 1-0 win.

Sunday 15th December
Norwich City vs Burnley

Saturday 21st December
Burnley vs Watford

Thursday 26th December
Sheffield United vs Burnley

Sunday 29th December
Middlesbrough vs Burnley

Wednesday 1st January
Burnley vs Stoke City

Saturday 4th January
Blackburn Rovers vs Burnley

Friday 17th January
Burnley vs Sunderland

Wednesday 22nd January
Plymouth Argyle versus Burnley

Monday 27th January
Burnley vs Leeds United

Yeah I mentioned this a few days ago - I'd say it's from Boxing Day until the end of Jan. Be in touching distance of the 2 top, with a good enough January window, and things will be looking up. Make or break period.

I see only two wins, four draws and three losses.

But then, wtf do I know?

This could also be the day that Leeds & Sheffield start to pull away from us .

I looked at the fixtures ahead of Middlesbrough and realised how many we had against the top six until the end of January.

The next 2 are crucial imo. 2 more draws could mean that we are starting to lose touch with DL and SU. These 2 are currently the best 2 in the Championship and like to attack, which gets their fans going. Which gets a virtuous circle.

So Scott time to gamble a bit?

I could be wrong but I think this is where we get found out. We aren't good enough at present to challenge for top 2.

I think next 2 games we should be ok, but in the remaining 7 games apart from Plymouth we will struggle.
I agree with hoosier-daddy its Make or Break time
Optimistically I'll go for W,W,L,L,D,D,D,W,L. But 12 points out of 27 is borderline playoff form at best.
Hopefully I'm being way to pessimistic and at least 1 of the draws becomes a win and we get a least a point from Leeds.

I really don't see us losing many. Unfortunately, unless Scott gets a risk cracker for Christmas, I struggle to see us winning many home games. Everyone knows how to get at point at Turf. It's been very clear since Rovers showed the way.

It’s a tough run but I think Leeds and Sheff U will also drop a good few points too

Really hoping we win our next 2

"the next nine games"....I was perusing a similarly worded thread some nine games ago. Looking down it we were playing against a series of mid to lower Championship teams and really, if we had a realistic intension toward automatic promotion, we should have pummelled the lot.

The reality was a series of toothless performances ending in 0-0 draws or stuttering performances with lucky 1-0 wins (for example a late and fortuitous penalty against Swansea).

If your Chairman sells most of the creative players in the final weeks of the transfer window there is no other outcome.

We are now losing touch with the top two. The only surprise in the current play off zone is Blackburn Rovers. With half a dozen perennial sicknotes residing in our treatment room....Foster Ramsey, Redmond, Tresor (?) Benson, etc it will need a couple of inspired signings in the January window to pull us back into contention.

Some of the next nine fixtures will see us seriously tested and we may see ourselves hanging onto the coat tails of the play of zone.

How are we losing touch ?

If we win tomorrow we are a point off second

Sunday 15th December
Norwich City vs Burnley won 1-2

Saturday 21st December
Burnley vs Watford won 2-1

Thursday 26th December
Sheffield United vs Burnley won 0-2

Sunday 29th December
Middlesbrough vs Burnley Drew 0-0

Wednesday 1st January
Burnley vs Stoke City Drew 0-0

Saturday 4th January
Blackburn Rovers vs Burnley Won 0-1

Friday 17th January
Burnley vs Sunderland Drew 0-0

Wednesday 22nd January
Plymouth Argyle versus Burnley

Monday 27th January
Burnley vs Leeds United

So with two games left of that horrendous run of games, we are still unbeaten.

Won 4 Drawn 3 - 15 points out of a possible 21
Scored 7 Conceded 2 5 clean sheets

Far better in terms of points than I thought we would get already. Lets see off those nine games with a flourish at Plymouth and a hard fought 1-0 against Leeds

It wasn’t 9 0-0s in the 9 games mentioned was it, yet against another thread you are adding no real input to

We haven't conceded a goal since that Watford game on 21st December.

We've still only lost 2 games and have conceded only 9 goals after 29 games. The football might not be the most exciting we've seen in recent years but those stats are remarkable whichever way you look at it.

Reckon I'd have taken the results we've got going into those games.

Completely agree.... some of the fancy new premier league fans can't accept it for what it is.
It's really quite likely to get us over the line and £180 mill in the bank, but yet the fickle fans, one of which is on this thread and many others tonight can't accept it.

Simple answer...... don't watch if it annoys you.

So, 19 points out of 27. Unbelievable really. And yet we're the worst team ever and play the worst football ever.
Just goes to show that the usual muppets who posted their predictions know absolute sod all really. Funny how no-one is owning up to much or saying how wrong they were in their predictions. Keep banging the negativity drum, eh, lads, ya bunch of clowns!

That's true, and for those who like reading the programme for the stats page rather than watching the match, today would have been a treat. :)

So horrendous run over and remained unbeaten throughout.

Won 5 Drawn 4 - 19 points out of a possible 27
Scored 12 Conceded 2. 7 clean sheets

Sunday 15th December
Norwich City vs Burnley won 1-2

Saturday 21st December
Burnley vs Watford won 2-1

Thursday 26th December
Sheffield United vs Burnley won 0-2

Sunday 29th December
Middlesbrough vs Burnley Drew 0-0

Wednesday 1st January
Burnley vs Stoke City Drew 0-0

Saturday 4th January
Blackburn Rovers vs Burnley Won 0-1

Friday 17th January
Burnley vs Sunderland Drew 0-0

Wednesday 22nd January
Plymouth Argyle versus Burnley Won 0-5

Monday 27th January
Burnley vs Leeds United Drew 0-0

We can now settle back and watch us play beautiful flowing free scoring football against teams that on paper wont carry the same threat.
