Lowest attendances at the Turf post war?

Started going the season before 86/87 and as mentioned above I loved it being 7/8 years old…I didn’t know any better. I was in a queue (via Junior Clarets) to be mascot. Someone dropped out which meant I was mascot v Orient. If he didn’t drop out my username would have been blackpoolinlancashiremanxcup which wouldn’t have had the same kudos! I remember a game in that season where we beat runaway leaders Northampton 2-1 at home which for some reason I thought was bonfire night but after reading above, I must have remembered incorrectly.

Either 84/5 - a 2-0 win in front of 4768 , or 85/6 - a 1-1 draw watched by just 3835.

Thanks for that bud. It was definitely the 84 one as I thought it was about 4k and the guy I was with was connected loosely with the band I was in at the time and it was from 83 to 85. Hard to believe that a derby like that would attract less than 5k.

I was on the Longside for the Colchester game. It seemed to be business as usual on there but parts of the ground were very sparse.

It's really not a season to be dwelled upon.

Looked anything but business as usual from the Bob Lord looking across. It was at times hard to get a feel for numbers watching from the Longside, but the whole ground felt like a morgue that night. I still feel sad thinking about my feelings that night.

I was one of the 1,138 on the Turf for the Darlington game in 1986. Despite having a season ticket for the 86-87 season, I missed the Colchester game due to a last minute red card from my mum for severe dissent!

I stand corrected., it was against Torquay. Attendance was 2,718 and James netted from a penalty to equalise.late on.

I've narrowed the field of away supporters to the following:

One was a genuine Torquay fan from nearby.

The second bloke continues to follow the Clarets and might have been 'scouting' at the time.

The 3rd had been released on licence that day and was supposed to be going back to his home town, Barnsley

I remember that night well. I was meeting a Rovers supporting mate for a pint in the Whalley Arms after the game and was almost still shaking with the tenseness of the game and going on and on about the importance of that goal and that point. I also remember thinking it wasn’t a bad crowd considering.

I know we get pelters off the young’uns for recalling these days, but they still make me shudder.

That penalty from Taffy was the difference between staying up and relegation, all other results standing. We would have been relegated on goal difference, us and Lincoln tied on 48 points, Lincoln on -20 and Burnley on -22.....

There were at least 50.000 on that game ... every time someone goes on about how **** we are playing now 50,000 uber fans tell us how they were at that game when we were really ****.

Very much reminds me of games Liverpool have played in the past and any Liverpool fan interviewed would always say they were stood on 'the Kop' for that one. In fact I don't think I've ever heard a Liverpool fan claim to have watched a game from anywhere else in the ground.

I suppose when you're stood with all the familiar people, as it was on the Longside, you don't think about the big gaps either side of you!
