I think we'll see some real variation on scores tonight. A game that could be seen in different ways.

Trafford n/a just wasn't needed
Roberts 6 quiet, but solid
Egan-Riley 8 a real talent
Esteve 8 beautiful to watch
Humphreys 6 not great going forward
Cullen 8 we know he's good enough to control that area of the pitch on his own, just doesn't need Laurent there.
Laurent 4 very poor tonight. Should have been off at HT
Anthony 7 started really well, then drifted in and out
Hannibal 7 I thought he did ok, so much better than Sarmiento
Foster 7 a much much better performance from him
Flemming 5 terrible 1st half.

Sarmiento 4 he's such a disappointment

Not rating, as I watched on TV while drinking, as I can’t get to midweek games, but how can anyone give Flemming higher mark than Foster?

Trafford - 7 - Nothing much but came off his line quickly and was good with his feet.
Roberts - 7
Egan-Riley - 9 - Thought he made some outstanding decisions. One wayward pass of note.
Esteve - 9 - Oozes class. Phenomenal judgement and angles. Wish he was more of a threat at corners.
Humphreys - 7 - Did well.
Cullen - 8 - Usual tidy self.
Laurent - 7 - Better than the criticism he's been given on the match thread.
Anthony - 7 - Some lovely footwork but a couple of poor corners.
Hannibal - 8 - One of his better games. Unlucky to get booked.
Foster - 7 - Just short of a goal. Perhaps his best game of the season.
Flemming - 6 - I don't think it is his best position. Could have scored one or two.

Had we scored a couple of those chances, people would be full of praise. We still need a genuine goal threat.

Trafford 5 can’t rate as he was reading his kobo for 90 mins
Roberts 6 ok…looked tired
Egan-Riley 8
Esteve 8
Humphreys 6 defensively sound
Cullen 7 tidy but offers nil in final third
Laurent 4 crap and slow
Anthony 7 great first 25 mins
Hannibal 7 was everywhere and targeted
Foster 7 should have, could have, had two goals
Flemming 3 awful. Barnes at 55’

Sarmiento 3 plays like he doesn’t want to get hurt…why over Edwards?

Trafford 7 not a lot to do but good distribution
Roberts 7 good game especially in the first half in centre mid
Egan-Riley 8 had a superb 2nd half
Esteve 8 made it look easy as usual
Humphreys 7 a good solid game, not too effective going forward.
Cullen 8 had a very good game and made some good runs in behind too.
Laurent 6 very average, didn’t do a lot wrong but didn’t do a lot either
Anthony 7 our best attacker especially in the first half. Faded after 70mins
Hannibal 8 superb performance he was everywhere. Works really well with Cullen.
Foster 4, awful first half, apart from a few runs had zero end product and always made the wrong choice, or over hit pass.
Flemming 5, he’s not a number 9. Missed 2 gilt edge chances.

Sarmiento 5, was he even playing?

Roberts 7
E-R. 8
Esteve 8 - Going all the way, this lad.
Humphreys 7

Cullen 8 ***
Laurent 6
Anthony 7
Foster 7
Hannibal 7 - Good game until he started to lose it, but was a very harsh booking.
Flemming 5 - didn't go for him.

Sarmiento 6

We played some good stuff at times. Still badly need a goal scorer.

You're giving Hannibal and Foster the same mark as Sarmiento. And Flemming a better mark than Foster or Hannibal. Just checking if you'd realised as it must be a typo

A frustrating win if there is such a thing, as we should really be putting dross like Oxford to the sword. Lots of good football but also lots of boring drill football where we speaks far too long adding extra passes in and losing all impetus. When we actually spread play quickly and got Foster running at them we looked a real threat. There’s a weird fear about our play around the box as though no one wants to have a pop, apart from the aforementioned Foster it seems.

Still, a wins a win and that was needed, despite the obvious issues with aspects of the performance.

Trafford 6 flip flops on, cigar in

Roberts 7 sound, good to see him bollocking people for the total lack of dynamism in front. Impressive gymnastics to head it when he slipped.

Egan-Riley 8 the run and one two with Foster was prime Steve Davis, shame he couldn’t finish

Esteve 9 ridiculous

Humphreys 7 a couple of hairy moments but nothing too troubling

Cullen 8 metronome. Spread the play a lot more than usual which was good to see.

Laurent 5 never really imposed himself fully on the game

Hannibal 6 was having a good game until he was wrongly booked but then it was the familiar story of having to take him off before he got himself sent off. About the 5th time that’s happened this season.

Anthony 6 some really good bits and some wildly frustrating bits. Beating his man then trying to beat him again, another one who seemed scared of having a shot and overplaying in good positions.

Foster 8 yes he should be burying the early chance but it his credit, he didn’t let that get to him. All our best attacking play went down that side and he could have had 4 goals with a bit of luck. At least he was willing to have a shot.

Flemming 5 the first time pass back to our centre halves is indicative of the drill football, needless passes backwards. He doesn’t have the pace to have the ball played over the top which stifles things a bit for us.

A game crying out for some attacking subs midway through the second half. The perfect opportunity to give some of the new and returning players some championship minutes and freshen up our play but safety first rules at the moment.

Trafford 7 …I’m confident I could have kept a clean sheet tonight
Roberts 7 … decent
Esteve 9 ….ridiculous. Played with a cigar on.
CJ 9 …. Includes 1 for that fantastic surge forward
Humphrey 7…. Also decent
Cullen 8…. Consistently good and got us our goal
Laurent 6 … distinctly average
Hannibal 7 …. Massively energetic which helped us but the big reservation is lack of output in terms of either assists or goals
Anthony 6 (7 first half, 5 second half)
Foster 7 (5 first half , 8 second half)
Flemming 6 (includes 1 for the lovely flick to set up the chance that Foster should have buried in the first half)

Sarmiento 4

Trafford - 7 Nothing to do
Roberts - 7 Good overlapping
CJER - 7 Solid again
Esteve - 7 Mr Dependable
Humphreys - 7 A massive upgrade on Pires
Anthony - 6 Threatens then turns back into trouble
Cullen - 7 Mr Pivot but he does hang onto the ball too much for my liking
Laurent - 6 Needs Brownhill and Cullen with him
Hannibal - 8 Probably MOTM but got hooked because of some very questionable referee decisions against him
Foster - 5 That 1st miss was unforgivable. Did up his game in the 2nd half
Flemming - 4 *Memo for Mr Parker - Zian isn’t a striker - end of memo*

Sarmiento - 5 Decent effort on target but his footballing awareness is pretty low

Parker - 4 I know you don’t mark the manager but for crying out loud a man on a galloping horse could see the personnel needed changing. I thought Dyche was bad for his subs but SP is different level. A 25 minute Benson and/or Edward’s burst would have taken the game completely away from them. My god he’s stubborn

Trafford 7 - Nothing to do.

Roberts 7 - Caused them problems by tucking into midfield in the first half but would love to see him play higher and get beyond Anthony occasionally.

Egan-Riley 7 - Solid, attempted to come out with the ball a couple of times to moderate success, range of passing is sensational.

Esteve 8 - Read the game superbly and snuffed out any danger before it even happened. Moved the ball a little quicker today.

Humphreys 7 - Just missing that real threat going forwards.

Cullen 8 - Head and shoulders technically the best player in the Championship. So comfortable in tight spaces, does not need another holding midfielder with him.

Laurent 6 - Did OK, but isn't going to hurt the opposition with the ball. Could be sacrificed in a game like this.

Anthony 7 - Great first half, lovely touch, bags of energy, just lacks the end product.

Hannibal 7 - Set a great tone tonight, touch looked really good, moved the ball quickly, was a promising performance. Absolute head case prevents getting an 8.

Foster 7 - Not a great first half, huffed & puffed but probably our biggest threat for a goal.

Flemming 5 - Ball bounced off him, sloppy fouls, missed two golden chances.

Sarmiento 5 - So much promise but flatters to deceive.

As Quoon said, a frustrating win which showed the best and worst of us and underlined why we could use a really good use a genuine centre forward.

Trafford - 7 - very little to do but did it all competently.

Roberts - 7 - thought he was very good at times tonight and stepped into midfield to good effect, solid defensively.

Egan Riley - 7 - great driving run for his chance and generally pretty good, but I found his reluctance to take on the diagonal ball to Foster, even when it was obvious he had the run on the full back and the wind was helping second half, really odd.

Esteve - 9 - Immaculate, again.

Cullen - 7 - neat and tidy and his movement showed up others at times.

Laurent - 6 - His athleticism was occasionally impressive but his use of the ball was clumsy too often.

Hannibal - 8 - looked very unfortunate to be booked and he didn't manage his game thereafter as well as he needs to. Before that he was our best player.

Anthony - 7 - Very good for 20 minutes but this pattern of having fast starts and then fading to anonymity is becoming a habit and if he's to keep his place, it needs arresting.

Foster - 8 - just needs a goal. Played that inside left role really effectively and gave us a real driving threat.

Flemming - 5 - should have had a hat-trick whilst being largely anonymous. Far too static and still doesn't look or think like a number 9.

Sarmiento - 5 - miles off it.

We should have thrashed Oxford and with a better striker, and had we maintained the intensity we showed in patches for longer periods, we would have done. The first half was pretty good and the one goal, even if an own goal, was the least we deserved. But we faded after half time and apart from a brief 10 minute period, we allowed Oxford to stay in the game. It didn't cost us tonight but a promotion chasing team really shouldn't be leaving open the possibility of the opposition snatching a point in a game like that.

Trafford 5 can’t rate as he was reading his kobo for 90 mins
Can't rate Traff so you give him a mark that is 'below par', make it make sense?

What did he do to be 'below par'?

A difficult game to rate. We should have won comfortably, but in reality we win 1-0 thanks to an OG. That sums us up. We're completely impotent. We have two strikers who frankly couldn't finish a hot dinner, never mind anything else. I have absolutely zero confidence that either will score another goal this season, such is the absurd levels of finishing. The problem is, they will be the difference between automatic and the play-offs. It's criminal that neither of them hit the damn target with those early chances. An half competent striker would be walking off with the match ball tonight. Oxford were that bad. We cannot continue to carry both. When everyone is fit we need to get Foster up front, Edwards out wide, and Brownhill back in the no.10.

Trafford 6 - someone get the lad a deckchair
Roberts 6 - decent first half, poor second (like everyone in fairness!)
Bashir 6 - a couple of moments, but ok
CJ 7 - his run was the highlight of the match
Esteve 7 - standard
Cullen 7 - tick tock
Laurent 6 - worked hard
Hannibal 7 - worked hard
Anthony 4 - did he come out for the 2nd half?
Foster 6 - some good moments, some utterly dreadful moments
Flemming 4 - tempted to give the lad a 3. I don't see what he offers the team. He doesn't hold the ball up, bring anyone into play, make runs off the shoulder, he doesn't do anything positive. We'd find better strikers on Towneley Park this weekend.

Trafford 7 Unemployed tonight
Roberts 7 Kept it simple
Egan-Riley 7 Tendency to pass to the left and miss better options but defended well and his late run was excellent
Esteve 8 Solid for the most part
Humphreys 7 Didn't venture too far forward
Cullen 8 Solid, reliable, often brilliant
Laurent 6 Was so obviously tired and took a knock
Anthony 7 Some moments of real quality and some not
Hannibal 8** Energy, desire, passion, unlucky to be booked and could have turned nasty for him once targetted
Foster 7 Quiet periods then has the ability to burst forward, needs to be central
Flemming 6 Can't play with his back to goal

Sarmiento 6 He needs the ball threading for him to run onto directly and utilise his pace

A mention for Jonjo, his 4 minute cameo brought about the best pass of the night and I hope we see more of him quickly

Overall we were solid but the missed chances in the first 20 minutes bordered on embarrassing.

Scott Parker has the players and should be getting more from this squad to make promotion a certainty.

Let's keep behind him and the squad and smash this League!

Trafford - 7 nothing to do, good distribution
Roberts - 7
Egan Riley - 8
Esteve - 9 mom ,superb, cool , solid.
Humphreys - 7
Cullen - 8 linked play really well.
Laurent - 5 seemed sluggish after his early ankle knock.
Hannibal - 8, real engine,aggressive,some lovely passes
Anthony - 7 ran his defender ragged, played well.
Flemming - 4 he's just not a forward, lacks mobility.
Foster - 7, superb second half, I still think he's a forward though

Sarmiento - 5
JJS not on long enough ( should have come on for Hannibal) but what a superb ball for Antony.

Some interesting variations on Mark’s tonight!

Trafford - 6 - what else can you give him, pipe and slippers night

Roberts - 7 - decent performance and rightly giving rollickings out for the non movement in front of him
CJER - 8 - making the game look easy
Esteve - 8 - head and shoulders above any defender in this league
Humphreys - 7 - did well after a bit of a shaky start

Cullen - 8* - calmness personified - not sure he lost the ball tonight
Laurent - 7 - the one I’m struggling with re scores. He’s calm, he was leading the press much of the second half, wins his tackles. Gave ball away cheaply a couple of times but that aside a decent game
Hannibal - 7 - a good game in places but it’s getting ridiculous that we have to bring him off before he’s sent off

Foster - 7 - he should have scored, and at times he’s frustrating. But he stretched their back line time and again
Flemming - 4 - the goals he’s bagged are papering over the obvious. A striker he isn’t. Flat footed, poor anticipation, can’t hold or trap a bag of sand. We can’t carry on with him up top surely
Anthony - 6 - after a good first half he faded

Sarmiento - 5 - one decent effort apart generally non existent

To be fair to the lads and the manager tonight, put the golden away and we win comfortably. Put the golden and good changes away and it’s a cricket score. They played well first half, dropped off when they had a shuffle second, but at least we created tonight. A positive for me

Trafford 6

Roberts 7
Egan-Riley 8
Esteve 8
Humphreys 7

Cullen 7
Laurent 5 - he has to score.

Anthony 7 - faded a bit but he gave us a lot of width and looked a threat.
Hannibal -7 - he's unlucky for the yellow card but his reaction was not good and he could have got another. There's real questions re his temperament.
Foster 7 - worked hard. Has to score what was the best of a string of glorious chances.

Flemming 4 - we're in a goal drought. He could/should have had 3.

Sarmiento 6 - decent run and shot.

The first half was good. Chance after chance created. We could have legit been 4 or 5 up but for some shocking finishing. That's on the forwards - that's not on Parker.

Second half we again had chances but the game went flat and was crying out for change which is what we don't get. The subs and the timing of them continue to puzzle me.

Another clean sheet. 2nd in the league. But if they'd have fluked one I sense it would have turned in the stadium.
It's not far below the surface with some fans.
