Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
Trafford 8 - steady, underworked, and only one minor error coming for a ball
Roberts 7 - a few hairy moments early on but got better
Humphreys 8 - great finish with wrong foot and decent throughout
Esteve 10 - Hull put us under more pressure than it looked and he dealt with it brilliantly, a break near the end he eased in front like an Aston Martin on the M6
Egan Riley 9 - some brilliant long range passes
Cullen 9 - dictated the whole game
Laurent 7 - like glue, but in truth we need more passing creativity and Shelvey would give us that
Hannibal 7 - steady but more contained than in the last two games
Foster 8 - dangerous throughout but became more dangerous when up front later
Anthony 9 - naive from Hull not to double mark him, was very good and would have been a 10 if he didn’t play it like the foxtrot, slow, slow, quick, quick, slow.
Flemming 7 - one decent finish, one bad miss, but never any penetration through the middle
Very easy win and some fantastic passing in the first half, we declared again by the second half. In truth though the passing was short and safe on the whole. The only time I felt excited was when Edwards played that through ball to Foster, and when he tried that Cruyff turn to get a chance, neither of which came off. OK, I did get a bit excited when Esteve eased in front of that breaking attacker, that was sumptuous.
If we can move into that extra gear, get Shelvey and Edwards playing, in my view for Flemming and Laurent, that gets us top two. Those two guys still vital from the bench by the way. That would make our attack like Sheffield and Leeds, but with a better defence.

Thought Foster was a threat all night which is why Fleming went off before him

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
I think to be fair to Foster, the ball just went to Anthony basically every time we got the ball. And for good reason of course he was superb, but not sure Foster was half-arsed rather just not involved as muchfatboy47 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 10:09 pmTrafford. 7

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
Harsh to mark anyone less than an 8 today, very accomplished performances all over the pitch. If Anthony has got it in him to improve his final ball, what a player he will be.
Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
I don’t like Robert’s at all, but even I would disagree with that. He had a great game.

I’m just not sure why Edwards didn’t come on for Foster only thinking is he isn’t a left sided player but nor is Foster

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
A very good first half and a controlled second.
Trafford - 7 - a couple of careless moments but generally fine.
Roberts - 8 - excellent in the first half when he pulled Hull all over the place. Solid in the second half.
Humphreys- 8 - took his goal smartly and generally looked assured once he'd got the measure of their 44's pace.
Egan Riley - 7 - solid night's work once more.
Esteve - 8 - standard night of making it all look easy.
Cullen - 10 - absolutely majestic. The Championship King at his best. Ran the game.
Laurent - 6 - solid enough and provided plenty of legs without using the ball as well as others.
Hannibal - 9 - his one touch passing was a delight and he worked tremendously hard. Blossoming as the season goes on and it augurs well for the run in.
Anthony - 8 - one splendid assist, should have had another, and produced a couple of other terrific balls, although om other occasions he didn't capitalise on excellent opportunities to beat his man.
Foster - 7 - tidy assist and showed a good driving threat, but he still needs to attack the back post more. There was one ball in particular that was begging for him to be inside the 6 yard box but he was wide on the edge of the penalty area.
Flemming- 7 - the first half was his most effective at Turf Moor both inside and outside the box, although he should have added to his well taken header. Quieter in the second half.
Edwards - 7 - clearly a player and took the three best corners we've seen since Luton away. Couple of bits of showboating that need ironing out.
Overall this was a step forward on past Tuesday and shows promising signs of a team hitting its stride. We still didn't create as much as we should have for out dominance, and we certainly didn't kick on in the second half, but with Preston less than 72 hours away it was understandable that we conserved energy. In the event Parker might have withdrawn players earlier but by that point we were very much in second gear.

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
Our most complete performance of the season in my opinion
Trafford - 7 - did what he had to do
Roberts - 8 - staggered he could be scored a 6, can only assume they weren’t at the ground but watching on TV. His cross field pass for the first was sensational, his off the ball running made a huge difference, and defensively solid
CJER - 8 - a standard 8 performance
Esteve - 9 - he’s so far ahead of any other defender in the league it’s ridiculous
Humphreys - 8 - good game, good goal. Not sure why he was taking corners though….
Laurent - 8 - gets through so much work, I think he’s been an absolute steal
Cullen - 10* - I don’t like giving 10s out but I thought he was superb from start to finish tonight. Outstanding
Hannibal - 9 - his best game yet by far - pushed Cullen for MOM
Anthony - 8 - a really good game
Flemming - 7 - scored but it’s the same old he isn’t a number 9
Foster - 8 - his best game of the season by far
Edwards - 7 - he’s going to give us a different dimension for sure. First thought is go forward
Sarmiento - 6 - did ok

Trafford 7 (Good distribution and it can't be easy doing almost nowt for ages and then suddenly having to make important saves)
Roberts 7
CJER 8
Esteve 8
Humphreys 8 (+1 for excellent "forwards" goal)
Cullen 9 (MOM)
Laurent 8
Hannibal 9 (Never stops running!)
Anthony 8
Foster 6 (looked marginally better playing as a proper 9)
Flemming 7 (Good goal, decent link up play, but 2 bad misses!)
Edwards 7 (A proper live wire!)
Sarmiento 7
How on earth was it only 2-0!!? Hull were very easy to play through and we had tons of time and space, especially first half and the final scoreline no way reflects our complete and total dominance! We're definitely clicking and there were some excellent performances all over the pitch, but to be a little churlish, it's just such a shame that these kind of performances are seemingly becoming the norm when numerous lacklustre 0-0 draws from the first 25 games or so are what could ultimately seal our fate and condem us to the lottery of the play offs. IE is it going to be a case of too little, too late? Just 14 games left and then we'll see!

Trafford - 7 - Some goalkeeping to do and did it well.
Roberts - 7 - Did both defensive and attacking duties well.
Egan-Riley - 7 - Largely untroubled defensively but messed up at least once.
Esteve - 8 - Held things together well.
Humphreys - 8 - One extra for the goal - pleased for him. A bit sloppy defensively a couple of times but some good forward work.
Hannibal - 8 - Very lively continuing the standard he set at Southampton. Couple of pots at goal too although not very convincing!
Cullen - 8 - Kept us moving, always available.
Laurent - 8 - Covered the pitch, filled holes and always available for a pass.
Foster - 7 - Reasonably effective on the left including the assist for Humphreys.
Flemming - 7 - Looked more like it and a goal and goal threat along with some good play.
Anthony - 8 - MoM - Our main creative force and constantly troubled the Hull defense.
Subs. None on long enough.
Edwards - Looks tidy but little impact.
Sarmiento - Replaced the tiring Hannibal but just helped see the game out.
Barnes, Worral - Their introduction was just to waste time.
A good win and enjoyable watch. A good standard from all the players. Hull played quite an open game and we were able to take advantage. They looked a threat at times but overall we out played them. Some of our slick passing and movement was a joy. There seemed to be a bit more energy about us too.
The TV editing was again very frustrating - lingering overly long on the managers and excessive repeats of incidents, all when the ball was in play, even cutting from what looked like a Burnley attack to show Scott Parker. In addition the ‘Stop Racism’ square being plonked on the screen every 15 minutes.

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
Trafford 7 - solid when called on
Roberts 9 - I thought he was the best player on the pitch in the 1st half, absolutely brilliant. He wasn't as involved in the second half, but a very good performance.
Humphries 8 - great goal and solid defensively
Esteve 9 - he's a joke at this level, a different gravy!
CJ 8 - it's still difficult to believe how consistent this lad is!
Cullen 9 - MOM - a metronome masterclass
Laurent 8 - worked his socks off again, and showed quality on the ball
Hannibal 9 - ironically his red card has been the making of him. He's come back with a totally different approach. The backroom staff need to take credit. His workrate and desire is one thing, his quick use of the ball is quite another. Difficult to know where Brownhill fits in when he gets back in contention.
Antjony 8 - a constant outlet, and worked hard to keep our defensive shape. His final ball isn't always the best, but he never hides and always shows for the ball.
Foster 8 - yes Lyle, more of this please!! He was a threat out wide but what I really enjoyed were the simple lay-offs when he went up front. He looked the part tonight, and the potential of Edwards, Hannibal, Anthony and Foster as a front 4 is really exciting.
Zian 7 - scored one, should have had three, didn't really link the play, wasn't really where you'd expect the no.9 to be for lots of the first half particularly. He seemed to wander wide right, whether that was a plan by SP I don't know, but Lyle looked more comfortable through the middle in my opinion.
Edwards 7 - interesting home debut. Had the drag back / turn in the box come off it would have been a special goal. Looks positive.
Sarmiento 6 - another fairly anonymous cameo from Jezza, it's becoming a regular thing.

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
Trafford 7 …what he had to do he did well
Humphreys 8…. Gets better and better and a great goal
Esteve 9…. Faultless defensively. Snuffed out any threatening moments
CJ 8 …. So consistent. Didn’t notice his passing as much tonight
Roberts 8 … linked up well with Anthony and a fantastic cross field ball to Foster to help set up the first goal
Cullen 9…MoM . Controlled the game and some great footwork on two or three occasions
Laurent 8 … covered a tremendous amount of ground and I thought this was maybe his best game for us
Hannibal 8…. Also showed massive energy and good touch. Just wish he had a bit more creativity (as per Laurent also)
Anthony 8…. He has such fantastic touch and looks tip quality at times. Just sometimes fails to make the right choice when in good positions. Caused them problems all night …thought the Hull full back was abysmal in his “effort” to stop the cross for the 2nd goal .
Flemming 7 …lovely header and showed more physicality tonight I thought
Foster 7 … on and off but some good moments . Needs a goal.
Edwards 7…. Some nice touches. Looked confident.

I don't get the low scores tonight. But, each to their own, Personally, I thought it was a very professional performance all around with some very good passing and control

Trafford 7 - Once again a passive observer
Roberts 7 - Some great football in the first half
CJ E-R 8 - Reliable
Esteve 8 - Reliable
Humphreys 8 - Well taken goal and solid
Cullen 8 - Wonderful footballer and fantastic footwork
Laurent 7 - Steady
Hannibal 8 - The pass to Anthony for our 2nd was sublime
Anthony 8* Just shades Josh C for my MOM
Foster 6 - An enigma that needs resolving
Flemming 7 - Looks lost at times and then gets in the right place
Never looked like conceding but I just can't grasp the reluctance to go all out and finish teams off. We are capable but revert to passing the ball around like it's a training session.
The fact Sheff Utd are 5 points better in footballing terms (2 deducted) suggests they aren't going anywhere and the clash at Turf Moor might be season defining.
Another good win that could and should have been more emphatic!

Trafford 7 routine stuff done well.
Roberts 9 superb in defence and attack
CJ 9 if he entered the half time competition he'd win it.
Esteve 9 superb
Humphreys 9 great goal
Cullen 9 everywhere, linked play so well
Laurent 8
Anthony 10 simply unplayable.
Foster 7 grew into the game.
Hannibal 9 like Barton, horrible if he plays against you
Flemming 7 great goal but I'm still not convinced
Edwards 7 some lovely touches.

Re: Burnley v Hull - Player Ratings
This game was over after 3 minutes and Hull, who are nowhere near the level of us, should really have been facing a hiding. That’s the only criticism of what was an accomplished performance with some superb football at times and the usual unnecessary overplaying at others. I see a few people were cooing over Leeds being the best team in the division but in reality they really are no better than us. We just don’t spend as much time attacking and really putting pressure on. Dross like Hull we should be taking to the cleaners.
Trafford 7 nowt to do but alive when he was called on
Roberts 9 excellent, up and down, some top drawer balls
Egan-Riley 8 standard
Esteve 9 way above this level
Humphreys 8 a lovely strike with his right foot. Seem to remember someone on here saying he was uncomfortable in possession. Lol.
Cullen 10 that is what you call running a game. You won’t see a more completely dominant midfield performance at this level.
Laurent 8 all over the gaff, keeps things nice and controlled with his physical presence but he moved the ball really well also tonight
Hannibal 7 great first half; the ball inside the full back for Anthony was a beaut. Wasn’t really in it after the break although had got back involved just before he came off.
Anthony 8 exquisite first touch, especially on the run makes him a great outlet for CJ’s quarterback moves. Decision making still needs a bit of work but the amount of work he gets through is vital to the team.
Foster 8 really good on the left and a threat back in the middle later on. Runs at players well and his passing rarely doesn’t find the right man
Flemming 7 good movement and finish for his goal, missed an easier chance. Starved of service for long periods but that’s 7 since December so for ‘not a #9’ he’s doing pretty well.
Hopefully we’ve landed on Edwards taking corners after it seemed like half the team had a go. He’ll be a good in, should have had more time tonight. Same can be said for a lot of those on the bench, ideal game to have made some attacking changes and put down a marker.
