FA Cup 5th Round on tv

Post by Woodleyclaret » Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:33 pm

It would be nice to have our 5th round date firmed up and to know if it's televised. As the only founder members of the Football League and a local Derby, I feel we might be selected.

I suspect the BBC will do their thing of selecting an all premier league tie.

Hopefully not....maybe they've actually realised that the country is already saturated with wall to wall coverage of about a gazillion all-prem games elsewhere for about 80% of the year.

All 8 games will be on TV, we are most likely to be on Friday or Monday night.

As per above the chances of a 3pm ko vs a ludicrous early or Sun/ night ko are as likely as Mike Tresor starting ..

4 all premier league fixtures to pick from.

3 premier league v championship (premier league side at home).

1 game championship v championship.

I'm hoping tv broadcasts all 8 games, Sunday or Monday is best for me for Preston v Burnley.

I'm expecting to make my debut for Surrey 70s on 1st March, a friendly v Essex 70s in Billericay, walking football. FA Counties tournament a little later in the year.

Won't make any difference.

They cream themselves when they can show an all prem game.

Isn't it a bit strange that they haven't announced fixtures yet for this? Only a couple of weeks before the game, draw was made 3 days ago?

There's a lot to sort out, premier league games the midweek before and champions League games the week after, expect us to be Friday or Monday night.

Just seen they will be using automated offsides in the other 7 games at Premier league grounds.
Also VAR will be used.

I wonder if there is any chance our game could be moved to the Tuesday after? If all games are on TV and no 3pm on a Saturday then they may move one to Tuesday as they did with Forest v Exeter.
I thought the 5th round was all midweek now anyway? Or was that just a covid/winter world cup thing?

Don’t agree with that myself

I know the “conditions” are the same for both sides in each game, but each game should have the same “enhancements” eg goal line tech, VAR etc.

FA site:
“ Ties in the fifth round will be staged across the weekend of Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March, with the full schedule and broadcast details to be confirmed in due course following discussions with clubs, broadcast partners and local authorities.”

I think scrapping replays has freed up a bit of space in the calendar.

Just been announced by the FA that semi-automated offside technology(SAOT) will be used at all PL grounds for this round. If it is a success it will be coming in the PL. Always looks better than current farce when used in European games.

Hence the argument that Man United's offside goal against Leicester had to be allowed because it would have been unfair on Exeter and Nottingham Forest to disallow it.

Blackburn v Norwich is Sat 1st March. I’d be amazed if Lancs Police allow our game to go ahead on the same day. That’s if they have much of a say.

In the 'Old days' (90's) it was always:
Burnley & Preston home one week
and
Rovers & Blackpool home the alternate weekend. I assume that was an agreement with Lancs constabulary. Long before TV companies had any real influence...

Over 70s walking football? Then you’ll no doubt be a long distance supporter of Burnley’s only walking football club that actually plays in a league. Burnley Clarets WFC has teams in the over 60s, over 65s and over 70s sections of the Greater Manchester Walking Football League, and we kick off the new season in March. We’ve made fantastic progress since we formed in 2019, and collected a few trophies along the way. What a great sport it is for us oldies

we only on i-player which affects the TV money , read something on the Lancashire post ( i think) that said (in years gone by ) the TV channels pay £125k for terrestrial TV but i-player only games the teams only get £55k , doesn't seem fair to me but hey its not like city or utd need more money is it !!!
