Fans you work with

Post by JLR81 » Mon Feb 17, 2025 3:39 pm

Just interested to hear about fans of other clubs you work or socialise with, and what their attitude towards their club is.

I work with fans of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Leyton Orient, Leicester City, Everton, and Newcastle.

What I've learned over time is the Arsenal fans are so blooming miserable and refuse to accept anything good will ever happen to the club.

The Spurs fans are pretty delusional and firmly believe great times are just around the corner, for some reason.

The Chelsea fans I know have pretty much given up on the club.

The others seem to fluctuate between blind optimism and impending doom.

One Spurs fan I work with was very excited we signed Marcus Edwards though.

I worked with fans of a lot of clubs with the most from Blackpool and Preston.

Now, through my FSA involvement, I have friends from other clubs. The meetings I attended were in person before the pandemic so were largely Premier League fans and largely they were realistic.

I’m in a WhatsApp group with my friends from Spurs. It’s called Ralph Coates.

Proper City Fan and a Bolton Fan ... Rest Burnley Fans

All grounded to be fair , including the city fan who has travelled around the world watching his team knowing it's never a given in football.

Bolton Fan has had it rough and is a realist

Pretty lucky really

Arsenal fans - resigned to them winning nothing in the short term but satisfied they will finish above Spurs
Tottenham fans - delusions of being a big club. I pointed out that big clubs win things and did they know there is only one year difference between the last time Spurs won the league and the last time Burnley won it. I like that stat and use it many times with Spurs fans
Stevenage fan - just enjoys watching a local league team, no real comments either way with them. I have been there a few times when at a loose end and is one of the most inoffensive clubs I have been to, not much history, no real rivals so very much a meh sort of place to visit.
Luton fan - loved the rise from non league and getting to the PL, can't fathom out how it went so wrong so quickly

My office is Towcester, few Watford fans, few Northampton fans and a few Liverpool and Utd fans.

None attend games though, they're more in to their Rugby

I have always worked all over and the best mates I have met who I still speak to regularly are: Lincoln, Wolves, Liverpool, Norwich, Spurs, Man Utd, Leeds, Man Utd and Sheff Wednesday.

Lincoln fan goes on against beating us quite a lot, although I probably would if I was him.

Spurs lads I know are fairly grounded in knowing they are Spursy.

Liverpool fan thinks the world is against them constantly.

Leeds and Weds are my cousins, so no serious views as it is just constant family winding each other up :D

The others are all pretty normal.

One thing I will add, I don't think we have a better or worse fan base than most. There are always a few idiots everywhere you go but most are good people.

I live amongst Crystal Palace fans. They're all genuine supporters proud to support their local club.

Without exception, the ones I've met are always looking over their shoulder and constantly working out how many points are needed to survive. Anything above that is a bonus for them.

I never worked with him, met him at a business conference back in the late 1990s and he became a really good friend, even though he's a Sunderland fan.

When we won there 4-2 in 2022, he sent me a text which read: "We had a decent first half. You had an outstanding second half. You fully deserved the win. NOW F*** OFF AND DON'T TALK TO ME FOR A WEEK."

Liverpool - Blinkered beyond belief
Everton - Life is misery
Utd - What has happened?
City (long standing season ticket holder who was there in the 3rd tier) - Everything is amazing but the wheels have fallen off and thinks a big decision is about to scupper them for years
Luton - Fun for a few years, now cannot believe what's happening
Forest - Pinch me
Rovers - Hates chicken
Preston - Racism is abhorrent
Arsenal - Lol Spurs
Spurs - Its always about to be the year when it finally happens. Very free ale tomorrow
Plymouth - Hates Burnley with a passion. Ooooh Aaaar-gyle (his words, not mine)
Carlisle - Remember Jimmy Glass?

I work and socialise with Norwich fans. For years they saw themselves as massive and Burnley were a club punching above their weight when we got into the championship. Think they’ve changed their thinking now and see us as on par with them.

2 Bturds - deluded but boy have I took the pi-ss out of em
1 Liverpool- annoyingly smug / thinks the world has it in for them / every decision that goes against them is so unfair etc
1 Everton - down to earth / dislikes Liverpool obviously
2 Man utd - they don't go so I don't bother with them
1 Leeds - even more deluded than the bturds / genuinely a bit strange regarding anything Leeds Leeds Leeds

Met loads whilst serving in the army.

Leeds - deluded. Got this big club mentality, but they just aren’t. As a mate said, the only reason Leeds are the biggest club in Leeds is because there isn’t another one. Extremely arrogant, demonstrated by an Obsession with man yoo, and it winds them up even more when it dawns on them man yoo don’t even know who they are.
Liverpool - as close to a foreign club in our own land as it’s possible to get. I’m absolutely incensed by their hatred of all things English. Combined with the worst accent in England, these reasons have led me to avoid them where possible.
Everton - always believed them to be the more reasonable and measured of the two big Merseyside clubs. Then we got promoted to the PL. How wrong was I? Basically, Liverpool in blue. Truly awful.
Spurs - all the spurs fans I met were reyt. Maybe that’s why I have a bit of a soft spot for them. I’d love them to do a Leicester and stick it to all the others who feel entitled. Always a risk they’d behave like Leicester after the success tho, but I’d enjoy it anyway.

In Ireland there are only two English clubs Man Utd and Liverpool and the pair of them bore everyone else to death .
Now the League Of Ireland is just great as I have met so many fans at Irish games and just love them all . Just great to talk to anyone about the loi , these are great days , Bohs v Shamrock Roves is the biggest game here set a record of over 33,000 on Sunday, 10,000 was the biggest before that .

I think i can count on one hand the amount of genuine fans I’ve met over the years who either did or do attend games at their respective clubs.

They are all armchair critics that haven’t a clue what they are talking about.

My extended family are West Ham fans and they do nothing but moan about whoever their current manager is. Moyes won a European trophy and it still counted for nothing to them.

Liverpool. - Absolutely victim mindset - always feel theirs one conspiracy against them
Everton - hate liverpool , think its always just around the corner to get better
Rovers - hate the owners - hate the refs - convinced their a massive club
Bolton - realists - good days behind them, but getting good crowds and just want to get back in championship.
Leeds - massive club - should be in prem. scared to death their going to blow up again
Burnley - frustration - needed to sign a striker - think the owners are doing a OK job

I currently work with fans of Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham and Chelsea.

I messaged them recently asking who they had got in the 5th Round FA Cup draw, the Spurs fan was the only one to reply saying "You know things are bad when you're getting trolled by a Burnley fan".

2 Leeds fans who are secretly jealous of Burnley and think they will blow it again this season.
1 Man utd fan who has now accepted they are **** and can't see a way out.

Mainly City fans. Strange mix of arrogant armchair fans who dance around once a year when they 'win' the Premier league and a group of working class, tough city fans who go every match they can and would follow their club through thick and thin.
Plenty of United fans. A similar mix but they've had humble pie for years.
Fair few Liverpool and Everton fans. Everton fans are brilliant, Liverpool fans a bit up and down.
The odd Bolton, Oldham, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, West brom, Preston fans. Usually have a good chat about proper football with them. Or take the mick out of each other.
I've worked with about 5 of the 'Auld enemy.' Been very good mates with a couple and car shared with 2. I enjoy acting smug around them as we are so far superior, less is more.
A couple of Rangers, Celtic and even an Aberdeen fan. Always a good laugh.

Actually, tell a lie: the PNE fan was a deluded idiot. One Bolton fan thought he was funny, the other one was a lovely guy. The Leeds fans keep a low profile as they know they're going to spectacularly implode at some point but they know their football. It's a healthy mix.
Rugby league is big as well (I work in Hulme)

I work with fans of lots of clubs. Closest colleagues are Leeds, Halifax, Arsenal, Chelsea and Villa.

The Arsenal fan is really grounded if I’m honest, and very fair in his assessments. The one with the biggest chip is the Leeds fan without a doubt. They’re the biggest club in the world of course. Are they ALL the same?

The Halifax fan is so down to earth; I really want some good things to happen for him as he’s a season ticket holder, has been for years, and goes to a few away games too. Their ground is council owned and they won’t invest in their pitch despite the rugby club sharing, and you can feel the desperation as they hover around the Conference play offs each season.

One from Norwich, but only has a vague knowledge of what is going on. Like their post-farke managers, really.

One Brighton who is probably average Brighton.

So far so good. Then we had a Leeds fan who thought that Frank casper deserved to have his career ended by hunter because he had earlier flipped the Leeds fans off. Finally although the only worse prospect is a Liverpool fan, the other one on our floor only likes rugby and is only interested in that hooray Henry shite that wear white shirts - the only supporters that can rival real madrid and the Scousers for entitlement.

Depending where I am it's mostly Middlesbrough & the odd darlo & pool fans & some Blackpool & Fleetwood fans. Some go to the games & some don't I find the 1s that don't are more level headed & the 1s that do portray a superior knowledge status that doesn't necessarily mirror with reality. Usually football conversations aren't high on the discussion list & it's mainly confined to a relaxed mode setting usually when the pressure is off.

Sheffield Wednesday and United fans are all sound who I've had dealings with, apart from when they get onto the subject of each other. Still think it's weird having such a bitter rivalry when you're all from the same town/city. Even the Leeds fan is alright. But then he goes to matches, it's usually the online fans that are the worst. Two from Barnsley and one from Huddersfield are as down to earth as you'd imagine.

The only knobheads I've been unable to reasonably discuss football with were both B*****ds, they went really weird as their decline set in. Admittedly me taunting them every day about it may not have helped.

I meet all kinds of people. The football fan I get on with most (and the one who talks most sense) is a Millwall ST holder.

Arsenal fans are a pain in the arse.
