We’ve had a new bridge between the 2nd green and 3rd tee ,the 17th tee has been completely redesigned ,a new bridge on the 18th and the Club Shop refitted ,the 6th tee bed has been completely rebuilt ,ok perhaps not a shed load but not bad for a relatively small minicamp course .HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:08 amI agree with Towneley having a terrific Greenstaff, but they certainly haven't had a shed load of money thrown at it.

Re: Marsden Park Golf Course
New bridge on the 3rd had to be done. Other bridge condemned by H&S, paid for with grant money.
New Tee on the 17th £9,000
New bridge on 18th built by a member with recycled stone
6th tee - not a rebuild, but laser levelled and re-turfed
Burnley leisure and culture have performed miracles with the shop, clubhouse and supporting & advertising the golf course and have no doubt helped it progress, but don't kid yourself thinking that the course has had a "shed load of money thrown at it"
Ckitheroe have spent £200,000 on their bunkers in the last 3 years, Burnley F.C have just spent £2,000,000 on a new pitch, now that's a shed load of money.

Not really comparable though is it! For a municipal Townley not doing bad at all when councils eveywhere can barely pay to run essential services.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 3:06 pmNew bridge on the 3rd had to be done. Other bridge condemned by H&S, paid for with grant money.

Why is it not comparable? Who do you compare against?

Re: Marsden Park Golf Course
I think comparing Clitheroe to us is like comparing us the Marsden ,it’s like City ,us and Stanley at football ,Clitheroe probably have more corporate days in a month than we have in a year.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 3:06 pmNew bridge on the 3rd had to be done. Re: Marsden Park Golf Course
Towneley doesn't have many cooperate days because it's a pay and play course, but it has a lot more players paying for a round on a daily basis than Clitheroe does.
Do you not think that players and supporters of Accy Stanley compare their playing surface with teams
higher up the ladder who have bigger budgets?
Stanley have spent over £500,000 on their pitch in the last few years.
I gave you examples of what it really costs to make substantial changes to sports venues, but if you think that putting £10,000-£12,000 into a very busy golf course is throwing money at the facility, then you're a perfect candidate for a golf clubs green's committee.

Re: Marsden Park Golf Course
Its obviously relative. You can't expect the local muni to compete with somewhere like Clitheroe. Maybe the council should put everybodys subs up to 1300 quid, see how that goes down.

Re: Marsden Park Golf Course
Fans come on here mainly to argue about football not golf and for some unknown reason your trying to create a full blown arguement over a remark I made about how good a club Towneley is .HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 6:36 pmTowneley doesn't have many cooperate days because it's a pay and play course, but it has a lot more players paying for a round on a daily basis than Clitheroe does.

I don’t know if you’ve had a bad day or your very argumentative or just a wind up merchant but if you want to continue then you’ll be arguing with yourself.

Must admit i thought they should have done that years ago. Better to have a decent 9 hole course than 18 holes you can't really maintain properly.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:33 pmHow long before the land is sold off for housing? My parents live more or less adjacent to part of the back 9 so will be interesting to see what happens but I would suspect a housing development on there in the coming years....

Re: Marsden Park Golf Course
I was reading they have 100 members at the club and it requires 100k spending on the course/facilities, so 1k per member. Doesn't seem viable and the longer they "mothball" the course the more will need to be spent to bring it up to standard. Just can't see a future for it as an 18 hole course. Really feel for my old school mate Neil, as he has put so much effort into the club over the last decade or so.

They have more than double that number of members, or at least they did the last time I spoke to Neil.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 7:03 amI was reading they have 100 members at the club and it requires 100k spending on the course/facilities, so 1k per member.
