Foster is a number 9
Re: Foster is a number 9
I'm struggling to understand what he was doing in his cameo tonight. He looked painfully slow, then out of nowhere he shows a bit of muscle and creates a 1-on-1 out of nothing... and passes the ball to nobody? Shoot man, for the love of God, shoot!

I used to believe there was a player in there somewhere, a great ability to carry the ball, but unfortunately that seems to be it, Premiership striker??!!! Jesus wept!!

In fairness, I think the decision to pull the ball back was fine, it was just poorly executed.

Looked unfit ,didn’t do what a striker was supposed to do during the last 10 mins and his decision making was dreadful.

Re: Foster is a number 9
He has completely lost his confidence. Put him in that Kids half time penalty thing, if he scores he might have a dig on the pitch.
He can do it, I know he can. Never going to be prolific but 3 or 4 would do for a start.

Re: Foster is a number 9
Really poor, he’d been on the pitch two minutes when Brownhill over hit a cross, he should’ve got there and looked like he was running in water, then when he got beat to the ball he just let the defender run past him with the ball like he wasn’t there. He looked exhausted.

Salech looked dangerous last night. I think he cost Cardiff £3 million. Is it time to start with Barnes up front?

Feel sorry for Foster,he's struggling yes but we don't know what's going on in his life,it's time to cut him some slack I think.

Re: Foster is a number 9
I'd normally agree Steve but we have been incredibly patient with him and he just hasn't delivered enough in his 2 and a bit years here.
He's contracted until 2028. We should all obviously support him this season and hope he can go on a bit of a run from now until the end of the season, but I truly do believe we need to move him on by any means possible in the summer.
Re: Foster is a number 9
Pffffft.
I've posted several times that as a goalscorer, Foster is a dud.
How much "slack" and for how long should anyone "cut" him?
Isn't two seasons' worth enough?
I wish him well for the future, at another club.

If playing Foster is to the detriment of the club then he needs to be left out ,his metal wellbeing is important but not the be all and end all .

I have to disagree. I believe his mental health is of upmost importance, certainly more important than a football match. However, I agree with your initial point. If / when he comes on as a substitute the team is weaker than it was before his arrival. Seemed to be on the periphery of the game last night; avoiding physical contact, little.or no determination in his running and a sort of passiveness that no team anywhere can afford. Must be noticed by the coaching staff.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 3:20 pmIf playing Foster is to the detriment of the club then he needs to be left out ,his metal wellbeing is important but not the be all and end all .

He’s doing well at being a huge no 2
Re: Foster is a number 9
He is the most classic case of a confidence player I’ve ever known. The main problem when he is in form, it’s extremely short lived before he’s knocked again.

I’ve always thought he puts a shift in but just lately he’s either lost his confidence,he’s still having Psychological issues or he’s sulking because he’s been left out of the starting 11,when he came on last night he should have been chasing up and down like Hannibal did and closing the opposition down.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 3:53 pmI have to disagree. He did it once ,but there’s another couple of videos kicking about where he’s just making half hearted efforts to run back, and as I previously posted I always that he was one to put the graft in but unless SP can risk trying him as the main striker for a few games then apart from the Millwall match when Flemming can’t play I can imagine him starting any more games.

Re: Foster is a number 9
I do find this thread very strange.
In fact its like reading an opposing teams forum about an opposition player.
Some seem to take great pleasure in constantly reminding everyone with "I told you so" posts that one of our own players is going through a rough patch.
Some of the other posters are obviously not Burnley fans, because you quite simply wouldn't write the things they have about a BFC player if you supported Burnley.
He is our player and still a young player with lots of potential.
Its really sad that some would rather be proved correct in their negative thoughts rather than support the player.
It also goes without saying if there is opposition fans posting, of which IMO is beyond any doubt reading some of the comments, then that's the saddest of them all.

Re: Foster is a number 9
I think pretty much everyone does support Foster when he plays and wants him to succeed. That doesn’t rule out legitimate discussion on here as to whether he is up to it or not.
Re: Foster is a number 9
Squaring to another player in that situation might have been a better decision given the angles but the issue is that it does seem a confidence thing. He's too scared to miss.
I didn't play at any substantial level but I can recognise the fear which is about him. When you are off form and secretly dread a 1-1, where shots which would normally go in just don't. The only way it comes back is a goal, be it a tap in or 25 yarder. Suddenly things are easier all of a sudden, you find the gaps without thinking too much.
He is a professional and not paying to play as I did. I also suspect he thinks that if we go up he'll be out on loan and if we don't he'll have more competition next season. As many on here have said I hope he comes good. A great story would be him getting into a run of form which sees up nab automatic or heroics in the play offs. That's what I hope for.

Re: Foster is a number 9
If you think some of the posts on here are legitimate about a Burnley player then you are definitely deluded.
It was the same with Trafford last season, the voices of reason came out to support the idiots spewing vitriol, passing it as legitimate debate.

Re: Foster is a number 9
This just came up on youtube
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5PpaQIBSLRs
Few points to note:
Lyle looks a lot fitter in this video than he does currently.
Luca jinking his way through 2 defenders, seems like a totally different player now. Has his injury changed the way he plays? Or is it just confidence?

Re: Foster is a number 9
People comparing Foster to Trafford are conflating 2 separate issues. The latter lacked experience and struggled at EPL level, mainly due to how Kompany set us up and started him for far longer than he should have done. This season's performances are up there with the best 2 keepers we have had in over 30 years.
However, Foster simply isn't good enough at this level, confidence or not. There have been 6 goal scoring chances since his return from injury and he hasn't scored any of them. Go back to our recent forwards, Austin would have scored all 6 of those, Wood 4 or 5, Barnes 4 or 5, Andre Gray 3 or 4 and Ings would have scored all 6 and made most probably made another 2 for himself. I genuinely hope he proves me wrong and scores 10 to get us automatic promotion, but I just can't see that happening. I'm 46 and look in better shape than him and I'm an engineer not a professional footballer.

So are you saying that if every Burnley fan and some mysterious away fans supported Foster 100% then he would suddenly become a better player & start scoring goals ?billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 3:29 pmI do find this thread very strange.

Re: Foster is a number 9
Foster clearly has some ability. Equally clearly his confidence is low right now. I'm not sure how he fits into our system though. Maybe he'd thrive in an old fashioned 4-4-2 with another physical striker - similar to Luton's front pair - but he isn't suited to the lone striker role and lacks the craft to be an effective winger.
For now I see him as a useful option from the bench, who we can deploy anywhere across the front line with a specific task depending on how the game is going. Hard not to think that his future is elsewhere though.
I do wish people would stop speculating about his mental health every time he puts in a poor performance or makes a mistake. It's a bit unnecessary and it hardly encourages people to speak up about such matters if it just leads to them being labelled forever more and everything they do being viewed through that prism.

What a game. Burnley's number 9
Re: Foster is a number 9
Thought he was pretty good today, worked hard anyway and managed to find a goal. His lack of technique is a problem though, some really sloppy play.
Re: Foster is a number 9
Excellent today. There was a drilled pass from left to right second half that showed the technical ability he has. His big issues are Co fidenxe and stamina, if he can get those sorted he's a good player

As others have pointed out, getting that goal boosted him today and put the bounce back in his step.
