EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
I feel grubby, but if I had to pick one, I'd go for Liverpool. Newcastle fans waving Saudi flags outside their stadium when the takeover was announced, while banging on about how they were going to win the PL and CL within a couple of seasons, kind of put me off them for good.

Yeah, cos Liverpool fans have never done anything annoying.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 12:37 pmI feel grubby, but if I had to pick one, I'd go for Liverpool. Re: EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
Agree, wouldn't normally want Liverpol to win anything. But until the Saudi connection disappears, I can't stand the thought of Newcastle winning anything. I've said it a few times, but the national image of their fans is massively misplaced. Glory hunting hypocrites mainly since the takeover, with zero morals

Dislike both clubs heartily but have to go with Liverpool. They will hopefully be fired up after Tuesday.

My thoughts are similar to the OP really. Never really minded Newcastle until recently. But the Saudi link and the self proclaimed "best fans in the world" award is starting to grate a bit.

Re: EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
I used to have a soft spot for Newcastle. That ended when their fans rioted in the FA cup quarter final they were losing to Nottingham Forest with the weak and pathetic FA rewarding their disgusting behaviour with a replay which Newcastle duly won.....so Liverpool today hopefully.

I would just love it if Newcastle beat Liverpool today. Newcastle is one of most passionate places for football in England and their fans probably deserve to see their club win a major trophy more than any other club in the country

I’d like to see Eddie Howe win a trophy, so Newcastle for me. Would never want Liverpool to win anything tbh.

Possibly a record for clichés. My wife is a Geordie. Their connection with the Saudis disgusts her. As for the match it's like a choice if Blackburn were playing Leeds.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 1:51 pmI would just love it if Newcastle beat Liverpool today. Does it really need almost four hours of coverage on ITV?

Has to be the Scouse gits. Still bitter from 1974

Re: EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
Liverpool for me. In 74 Newcastle fans invaded the pitch against Forest and stoped the game when they were as good as beaten 3.1.
If the FA had done the right thing we would have played second division Forest in the semi final.
The FAs spineless decision then encouraged many more pitch invasions as fans felt there was nothing to lose if they felt their team was about to be beaten.

Thought I’d have a read about this on wiki. And like you say an absolutely spineless decision not to throw them out.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 3:52 pmLiverpool for me. In 74 Newcastle fans invaded the pitch against Forest and stoped the game when they were as good as beaten 3.1.

On another note I never realised there was a third place playoff between 1970-74. Which we won vs Leicester!

Not really bothered as long as it's a good game.

Not fussed who wins but would like to see a decent match with no VAR intervention.
Re: EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
Would love Newcastle to win it, proper fans the Geordies (and Mackems too to be fair).
Re: EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
1974 is all you need to know when picking who you want to win today.

Re: EFL Cup: Liverpool or Newcastle
I'd rather have a team win with Saudi connections than a team who's supporters constantly boo the national anthem of this country, without the commentators even giving it a mention, yet they cream their pants every time we have to listen to that dross "You'll never walk alone" pre match..Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 1:29 pmAgree, wouldn't normally want Liverpol to win anything. With Howe, Trippier, Pope and Barnes - this could be the closest we’ll come to winning the FA Cup for years

I certainly have no love for Liverpool, but for many reasons, some already mentioned, I wouldn't like a Newcastle win.

What exactly are 'proper fans' as mentioned a bit earlier? Just wondering if I might be one or not.

Pope always looks like the last kid in the playground to get picked so they stick him in goals.

I think it was when he played against us at Championship level that someone on here said Dan Burn was the worst defender they'd ever seen!
