Cec Wright (Rip)

Former Colne professional in the 1960s has sadly passed away.

359 wickets at 10s in the league is a decent bowling effort.

A fantastic fast bowling pro in both Lancs leagues, played on into a late age, cricket was in his soul. RIP

He retired from local cricket at 85. Madness, what a career.

I looked him up on google images but couldn't find a photo of him when younger.
I lived down Cotton-tree '60-73' & we had a West Indies all-rounder living just a couple of houses away.
We were fascinated by him....(never met a black person before) I have a feeling it was Cecil.
Despite being warned by all and sundry to "stay away from that blackie" we (me and my sister) would go into his house & he'd make us cereal......one of the nicest people i ever met!

I had similar experiences with Conrad Hunte and The late Collie Smith. Both were lovely people and great cricketers

Did he not play for Walsden as well?. I'm sure I remember as a kid watching a Cec Wright bowl, and saw him take the best slip catch in the history of cricket.

He certainly did. He was the Pro in 1971 when I made my first team debut for Littleborough. Lovely bloke and a bloody good bowler. RIP

The North West cricket league report him as being Astley Bridge former professional.

Where I saw the sad news.
