What a pass

Post by dougcollins » Sat Apr 05, 2025 5:39 pm

From Foster for our first.

Seems to have gone completely unnoticed. Commentary team called it a 'mis-hit', absolute nonsense, he knew exactly where that was going.

I think he was just keeping the ball alive rather than passing it to JA.

Some on the match thread giving Lyle pelters ... they forget he was targeted by Cov players from the start because he was a threat.

Well played Lyle Foster today 👍

Lyle must have thought he was back playing in Soweto with the rough house tactics he had to deal with.He had an excellent game and never gave up.

The glance over his shoulder was him hoping there’s be someone behind him. He clearly slips.

Foster put in a proper shift today, which is why Praker kept him on when Fleming came on. What I like today, if he lost the ball he quickly went back challenging to get it back-this for me is where he is at his best

Benefit of the doubt goes to Foster of course, but he controls passes like that all the time...!

He is a striker with 2 goals and precious few assists. He needs to start scoring goals if he wants to earn another contract

I suggest you watch it back. He clearly loses his footing with his left foot giving way whilst he’s trying to turn it in with his right foot. To suggest it was deliberate is, quite frankly, outrageous. The video of the goal the club has released from just to the left of the goal shows this perfectly.

He knows exactly what he's doing with that touch. He knows he can't score and knows the general area of where Anthony is. He just directs it to that area and hopes for the best. It's a smart piece of play.

He doesn't 'glance over his shoulder' until the ball has squidged away from him.

Probably more of an attempt at a shot than an ingenious pass.

Doesn’t do it for me unfortunately, technically he’s so poor it stands out like a sore thumb and it’s frustrating to watch.

He’s fortunate for the goal because his initial pass out to Edwards was dire, luckily Foster air kicks it and it seems to bounce off his arse and fall perfect for Anthony.

Did a lot wrong, but also did a lot right. He's best game of the season for me was v Oxford at home, only thing missing at this stage is 3 or 4 goals to his name, could also be said of Flemming, and if both had put their chances away the title would surely be wrapped up already. But yes, Foster I'd also say had a pretty decent game today.

Watched it back- the cut back is slightly behind him which means hes stretching back for it, and he's attracted a cluster if defenders so the shot isn't on and he does the correct thing in nudging it on.

The other thing that supports this is that Foster has form for being unselfish to a fault.

I think it's deliberate, unselfish and aware play.

Ok, let’s agree to disagree on that. I think you’re way off and giving too much credit for something that was pure luck.

What is it with people trying their hardest to justify Foster as a remotely competent player? Hes utter **** and needs replaced even if we don’t go up.

The point is he makes the near post run and draws in the defenders which creates the space for Anthony.

It’s not slagging anyone off, just an honest view .

People seem desperate to try and find something to prove they aren’t wrong about him

It’s like the whole Jutkiewisz scenario. People were banging on about he just needed a goal. He was another one who was nowhere near the level required.

Some People don’t like honest views.

Fosters own reaction to it was one of frustration for it not going where intended.

Does it matter at all what anyone thinks about whether it was intentional or not. Personally, I couldn't give a s**t, as long as it hit the back of the net. I reckon as many goals are scored by miskicks, lucky bounces, deflections, or because the scorer's foot was nudged by another player as are scored by precise placement!

Certainly worked like that for me when I was younger, and is still the case now I'm scoring goals in walking football.

I thought he was poor. Every attack seemed to break down as soon as he was involved. Got lucky with the first goal after an awful ball to Edwards. Had his best spell when moved out left in the second half.
